Really? I thought the FAQs said it had to be called. How do you check.

Multi threading working very well for me, still CPU bound, average is up nicely, but... wow what great consistency now too. Graphs say it all. Track run in VR oculus quest 2. Max resolution, 80Hz, in normal oculus runtime (not openxr) recordings are Plasma Torture Map. MT on top

Multithreading VR Benchmark 4090 + 7950x3D
Hoirtel replied to DirtyMike0330's topic in Virtual Reality
Am I right in reading this as it made no difference now to be on vcache CCD?? -
Yes, I sort of assumed that Open XR wasn't really for oculus users as its all natively supported, but never actually got around to trying it out.
-
So from the FAQ it looks like you have to run VR in open xr with MT? is that correct? I hadn't actually tried open xr yet as I was fine on oculus as it was... maybe I missed the point....

It does help, I was seriously considering just going for my cheaper option of 13th gen with DDR4, and considering I don't own a power station it would be a 13700K. I'll stick with my first plan! Very encouraged to hear your results. Now just got to find a 7950X3D that is actually for sale....

Oof, is this common? I saw the Jayztwocents video that this had happened to him. He ended up swapping boards. I've never built AMD before and this makes me worried as I can't afford a mobo that has proper post codes.

So its what you hear, it is quite subtle in the noises you get as it is low frequency and you often don't consciously hear them but would notice if they weren't there. Anything you hear can go through the shakers. Gear movement is good, airbrakes make that rumbling noise, stalls have less actual motion than SSA but any buffet or shaking is all felt. I EQ the sound to cut off high frequencies to the shakers and then can increase the volume. Even in the time when the actual motion is less, I find it a much more refined and connected effect, where as SSA felt a bit like a generic BZZZZZZZ. Also SSA could at times be overloaded with effects that is wasn't nice at all, tuning takes far too long and I ended up turning so much off. I also couldn't stand the touchdown being out of sync. The other thing about game sounds is that there is now feeling for everything, so external noises are quite intense, I feel explosions, bullet hits and sonic booms all in perfect sync. There are also loads of little extras you get some one nice example (that I can think of now) are the guns feel different front seat or back seat in the hind and apache, this is because it sounds different. The front seat of the apache the gun is right under your bum, where in the back its a little less prominent. Essential to make it work is voicemeeter banana as I route game sound only through to my shakers, and EQ it. I have a second channel not EQ'd for my headset and separate feeds in for all voice comms. This way comms doesn't go through the shakers. I also have a Spotify channel that is away from the shakers! I also tried both game and SSA together, bringing in a just a few of the SSA effects but this doesn't work at all. They basically either cancel each other out or the SSA just feels a bit unrefined. The main thing that is missing from game sounds is the G-effects but I didn't really like this. Its an add-on effect and the game does this through stalls, buffets in a less-is-more way. If you try it, at first you may not like it but leave it for a little while, start to do your normal things and you won't go back!

Good news about perf, bad about the scheduler. I heard you have to add a game to game bar and keep on balanced power mode as it won't park the non vcache cores. It is it not working well even with that?

I really didn't think that MT was coming this quickly but the wide speculation and lack of EDs intervention in this has made me think otherwise. It will surely have to be 2.9 at least if it does come. It could also be the phantom. Getting it out before the F15, but after the pre-order. They have said it is already late.

Considering the vcache helps in most games I can't see this changing but I am also in a similar position to you, waiting to upgrade. I think if you are a VR user vcache will still be very helpful. I think MSFS uses a few threads and this still really likes vcache.

I have been looking at this video, have you tried this on 64Gb kit? this video says its for single rank. All 64Gb kits will be dual rank

Fair enough, I'm interested in learning about the technology, not just DCS performance. -

It's VR and seems to be the only one, so not the worst way to spend 11 minutes while considering a large purchase. Also did show a scenario where vcache gave a huge help to VR performance, probably similar to what you have seen. -

Finally some VR benchmarking. Interesting... -

So the GN review is a bit damning of 7900X3D. They also mention about the chance for reduced clocks for 7800X3D, I am not sure AMD will let that be higher up than either of those two so the 7950X3D may still be the best performer of the three, and the 7800X3D probably won't compete with the 13700K -

Yes it is a location thing, anything else I see is all US imports which is really expensive. And to add insult the C40 kits are corsair, which at that latency will be Samsung. I can get a Kingston beast 64gb 5600 CAS 40-40-40-77. I think it will be worth getting 32gb and waiting. When I add the above into the asus QVL list it does say SK Hynix..... The other thing is that I have 64Gb DDR4 now, and haven't seen it go higher than 28 -

Just watched the HUB video, pretty good. Seems to suggest its not quite a sensitive but buying better is advisable. Now I have a problem as there are still no 64gb kits available at any less than C40 for 6000, but I can get a great 6000 32Gb kit at C30, hmmmmmm Going to watch the 7900 video. -

9000 series? I assume you mean 7000x3d series? Seems reviewers use the same spec ram as non 3d i.e 6000 with as low latency as they can. Seems to work fine?? What I would be interested to know is if these are as sensitive as the non 3d parts as I understand the 5800x3d isnt as memory sensitive as the non 3d parts. Would be be able to buy 6000 cl40 and get same performance? I'm sure a reviewer will test this soon. Probably HUB. -

Interesting video on how 7950X3D works. -
Expectations low, speculation high. We are a predictable bunch.
-
Surely a big engine update would warrant a major version number change... They have said its a lot of work so are we looking at DCS 3.0?? Maybe that will come later when its in final and with vulkan. Even so would a big engine update be better with a clean download?

Good information, thanks. They have said that initial multicore will be implementing two cores but will MT take away the advantages of vcache?
