AMD 7 series X3D announced
Hoirtel replied to AngleOff66's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I probably would go 13700K. Maybe its diminishing returns but I had my eye on the 13900K which is probably too much, so middle ground. -
AMD 7 series X3D announced

So some of the early thoughts on these X3D chips from reviewers are surprisingly negative. Seems like reading between the lines of AMD's charts could indicate that these are not as far a leap forward as the hype train might be expecting. I am really interested to see the testing, but as I am now looking around at parts, its seems that 64Gb of 6000 is only available in cas 40 or maybe 36. I do really want 64gb for DCS. Could make do with 32gb in the short term but either of these choices kinda tarnishes the X3D option a bit as I would likely want to upgrade in the future. Having looked at the prices for 64Gb DDR4 the intel 13th gen is starting to look appealing again... I am not too bothered about the upgrade path. They way I see it is that AM5 would allow me to upgrade the CPU, and looks like I might have to upgrade the RAM anyway. Intel DDR4 means that I would need new board, RAM and CPU for future upgrade whenever I get to do it, likely 2/3/4 years away. Considering nobody really knows what is coming down the line I think the upgrade path is a non issue for me at the moment, which looks more like 13th gen is a best bang for buck. Just need those X3D reviews... -
It's an interesting development, that will will have a full world map, separate to the current ones. I always thought that they would use these as add on high detail areas but perhaps they are just too different underneath the hood. I expect a full world map to be a great opportunity for a marketplace. I expect we will be able to buy airfields and scenery packs as you can with civilian sims, but the separation of the current maps is a bit of a shame. See how that comes together...

What an update, all sounds great! Some pretty heavy technical detail there. It doesn't sound like an easy task..

AMD 7 series X3D announced

I argee, sounds like the 7800 will be the one to get for priority sim rig. My minor issue with DDR5 is that it seems hard too get decent 64gb kits at 6000. There are some CL40 ones cropping up in the EU stores, but I wonder if a better 32gb kit would be best for the short term. -
I still haven't got around to trying in in the other sim. I had heard it was improved recently (DLSS 2.X) maybe not?. From what I understand DLSS 3.0 is supposed to be better with VR, however its really doing a similar thing to reprojection so I think that as we go forward DLSS will take over as a single VR assistance technology so there will be gains but not much more that we can have now. It might just be that much better quailty, however as a meta user I do think their reprojection is fantastic in DCS now.

AMD 7 series X3D announced
Hoirtel replied to AngleOff66's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yes it will be DDR5 and the newer more expensive motherboards. I remember couple of months ago there was a bit of a rush on the cheap 5800x3d systems. We knew then that this was going to be announced at CES, but price wise it will probably work out much higher cost anyway. How much extra that will get remains to be tested.... -

Great, that would be why I missed it! Thanks for passing that on - interesting to know. -
Upgrading from i9900K to AMD 7700X: Thoughts?
Hoirtel replied to Lurker's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I'm pretty much in the same place you are. Replacing i9 9900. I think the 7800X3D will be the one to go for if simming is your priority. I nearly started building a 7700X system so I could upgrade but the vcache is so close now it doesn't make sense. With many new releases having problems it makes sense to wait for reviews before buying anything. From my research the 7700X will give a decent lift over 9900, but for me if the vcache chips turn out to be too hot or broken in another way, then I'll prob just go with intel. -

Ah I missed that bit! That's really useful information and would make perfect sense given the compromises in thermal performance that the vcache apparently has. As you say this makes the choice much easier and for building a sim only system its nice to not need the most expensive part for once! Where did you hear that about the boost clocks? -

Been waiting for these. Three makes the choices more difficult. Interestingly I have also watched the hardware unboxed reviews and by thier workings they think that the 7900 and 7950 will only have vcache on one of the CCDs. This would tie in with them being dual purpose. Might mean that for DCS the 7800 will be the best. Shame it doesn't boost as high like the others. I will wait for reviews but I will probably be getting one of these. -
I think it is a DCS response to a VR problem. For me on Oculus/meta/whoever it is definitely helped with good/strong room lighting and ensuring that there is always something for the cameras to see and use for tracking. It definitely wasnt like this before but I think it's manageable. Also uncheck use snap views in your game options. The point above about the monitor might also be valid it would fit, but I don't have one nearby.

Well each to their own. Last few videos have been full of new footage of announced modules (F15E??) and a new reveal at the end. Maybe that won't be the way this year who knows. I would certainly be excited to see the eurofigher though.
-
Most of the video is upcoming stuff so announced and not yet released totally fits the frame.
-
We pretty much did get a delay notice from HB. As a big release its got to be worked in with everything else so I really wouldn't expect it until we are well into the new year, and maybe Q2 if the F15E is going to come first. I also like that we haven't seen it, it's a totally new way to develop a module! We all know what a phantom looks like, and we all know that HB are going to do it well so I hope they keep the mystery going. It's a real phantom!
-
Update, seems it is not totally fixed after all. It is definitely linked to lower room light which is not something I have seen before. Maybe the change was on the Oculus side.
-
As mentioned in the other thread that relates to this. Unchecking the use snap views option appears to have fixed this for me.
-
This seems to have fixed the issue for me! Long session yesterday and it was totally faultless! Thanks

reported earlier Kneeboard folder for Syria map PLS
Hoirtel replied to 303_Vins's topic in DCS: Syria Map
Maybe it will be the big reveal in DCS 2023 and beyond! -
If you need to be in control that much, have you own server. Other than that we all just have to deal with things as they come...as with the rest of life. It's not like it's every Friday, once in a couple of months maybe?

After Oculus Quest 2 Update VR is not playable because of flickering
Hoirtel replied to LOW_Hitman's topic in VR Bugs
Sounds like you are signed up for using public betas for Oculus. Maybe that last one wasnt 100%. Personally I don't do this anymore after experiencing a couple of mildly broken ones. I can wait for proper versions. -
Anyone make their own Butt Kicker?
Hoirtel replied to Steel Jaw's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I have two Dayton Bst1s and a small amp. Really really good. I also stopped using simshaker and much prefer using EQ'd game sound. Voicemeeter Banana is a must have to route all the sound correctly. -

Oculus is pretty much best left alone and at default these days. Most advice on using the tray tool dates back a year or so it's come far since then.
