If left in, some sort of visual indication of it being up or down would be helpful. Not quite sure how that would work. Maybe a coloured spot on the top of the cyclic?
-
Yes that pretty much covers it, but a separate video feed of his stick would have made it really clear.
-
Thinking about it just now, would binding the non-axis cyclic and pedal controls to a hat do the same thing?? Maybe worth a try if you feel you need it. Edit: not the same thing actually... but similar as this would move the white diamond and not the cross.
-
It really doesn't need it. I have been through exactly the same thought process, but the current method is much quicker and more accurate.
-
There have been videos/tutorials but I don't think anyone has done a video showing the trim working alongside their actual stick position/movements on a split screen. I think that would clear it all up. The penny dropped for me yesterday, it does work very well. I've never made a YT vid so probably take me weeks to get one out. Hopefully someone else will do this!

As a previous user of reset in the hind it always bothered me that I was never able to do this smoothly. Now I know why, now I will not be using this. The central position trimmer does actually work very well. It can feel odd to trim then recentre your controls when you are in the middle of transitioning as you expect to lose all your hard work, but you don't. And then you can carry on making minor corrections but with the benefits of being close to the centre of your stick and getting the best of whatever curves you have applied. It's actually very good.
-
Once you get it, it's fine. Like riding bike... You wonder how you ever managed to fall off. Earlier I was convinced it was all wrong. Now I don't even want a reset! I have lessons to apply to the hind.
-
Don't hold it down. Move, tap trim, and then recentre.

I only use stable, when do updates normally get pushed out? -
Just had another couple of hours. I may have got it.... I almost feel silly.. My mistakes were: Trying to press - manoeuvre - release. This is incorrect. Just tap. Also trying to over reference the control indicator, in many ways its better to forget about where they are. I have removed the spring from my pedals, and have that option selected. This is perfect but I would think the same principles apply if you cannot do this. As for the stick I am on the spring centred option (virpil warbird) As others have said return controls after trimming and before next trim is essential. So to transition from a level trimmed flight of around 100+ knots I did not touch the trim until I am down to less than thirty knots with very little V/S, then tap trim, re-centre and resume slowing down. Only tap trim when you are in a stage that you are looking to maintain, even if its just for a short period (you will know when this is). Its almost like I am saving all the work I put it to slow down. This then allows me to regain that authority that I had been allowing to run away. If you are new to helicopters I would recommend flying around an airfield without ever using trim for a while first. Get used to how it handles, transitions and figure out landings and slowing down from high speed in level flight or with a minor descent. When trimming for level flight I do need to tap a few times to get it right, this seems normal. I do get times when it seems to want to roll to the right. I correct this by leading with left pedal and following up with left stick. Tap trim.

Lol. Not at all one press. I'm not over thinking either, this is based on observations and testing. Definitely retrimming! That's the problem, retrimming gets further away from the original position. I also fly the hind, but I reset. Didn't know it wasn't real until last couple of days.

Third trimmer option in the dropdown available in the special options of the 64. It effectively stops the trim from doing anything at all. Designed for hardware that do not return to centre therefore not needed trimmed. Yes agreed. I can't transit for very long without trimming!
-
If you are trimmed for forward flight, hold down force trim. Control options show red trim cross and white position diamond are aligned. If you let you spring centred stick return to neutral, the white diamond and red cross do not return to the centre of the cross. There is a new centre, this illustrates what I think is the main problem as this can happen in any direction which is why many of us end up fighting the controls with little or no authority to a certain direction. This just seems completely wrong. In the above scenario, when I tried to manually pull back to centre I am madly pitching up, so the previous centre (as show on controls overlay) is not centre. Ok I can kind of get my head around that, but then the result of this means I have less travel available to me forwards and too much aft, at some point this can go so far there is no authority left at all. I really do think we need a reset, that means that whenever I am about to transition I can start from "fresh" with my neutral shown and centre on the overlay. I really do think this is where real life and a sim have to depart (unless you have a non-centring stick). As someone else said the drive for accuracy is actually resulting in unrealistic behaviour. I will however keep practising...

Fps with the flir? I noticed this was a bit laggy when head turning but the actual game seemed fine. Assumed it was a feature....

So i understand heli pedals do not self centre so this is actually more realistic behaviour. Plane rudders get returned by the force of air moving past them (I think - not irl pilot)

I have removed the spring from my pedals and it has a dampner (xwinds) works great no problem (third option). I can't say I see your bump at start but I don't really have that. My issue is as stated earlier with never being able to find centre again after trimming. Yes, it all goes incorrectably wrong for me after touching trim. I wish I could make a video but I am not set up for it. Never made a YT vid in my life!
-
I have this. My main issue was after triming to forward flight, I press the trim, hold it and the remove all pressure from my actual stick. My actual stick returns to centre, both the trim cross and control diamond stay alined but do not return to centre. This is happening all the time, it's as if there is a third position not shown on the control inputs. I watched it. Yes I agree with you but it needs one with the helicopter in the air and your stick visible to show the mismatch for the centre spring mode.
-
I'm considering just never using the trim. Flies great until I do that.

Same here, just flew for an hour, thought I had the hang of it, went to hover and got flipped over. Right stick input just completely ran away with me. I am using the spring centre option with a spring centre stick. In my head if I keep the force trim pressed and allow the stick to return to centre, the white box and red cross should also return to centre. They do not. They stay aligned with each other but the spring centre of my stick is now located elsewhere. If I move them both back the centre I get too much opposite input as if I have crossed over the centre, I can't understand this. What I am I doing wrong? I have no spring in my pedals and with the no spring pedal trim option it works perfectly. However the trim option in this case feels kind of useless. I mean its not doing anything, nor do I need it to. The pedals stay in place. With my spring centred stick I have tried all three trim options. The springless basically does nothing other than move the red cross on the flight controls. The aircraft moves back with the spring as expected, and back to centre, as expected. With the default FFB friendly option it works if you let go of the stick immediately, but not that easy. This is how I have been flying the hind, probably incorrectly but the addition of a reset and the direction controls make this workable for me. Before I ever touch the trim I find the 64 great to fly & hover. Brilliant fun, not too easy, not too hard. Maybe my time in the hind has helped here. Once I touch that trim, I start to lose touch with the control and looking at the control overlay does not help. (Pedals excluded)

I thought I was having trouble too but I realized that I was choosing auto and then going wrong and reboxing the manual range again (1500). Once I stopped doing this and it says auto on the keyboard screen (forget name) it seemed better. I had sight in right eye only. This gun with VR is absolutely nuts. I can't believe it a real weapon... Crazy.

This is so important for dcs generally and I have had really noticable improvents just trimming the fat off my PC. If you aren't using it don't run it! Onedrive, Dropbox are common culprits and also a biggie for me was adobe. They seem to run loads of background stuff, creative cloud and a bundle of services on the start up. Get rid of them all. Not needed. Adobe will still work just fine! I'm also running with no hyper threading this seemed to reduce stutters for me and improve consistency although it has been a while since I switched it back on.
-
Considering the FFB option is the default special option has everyone changed this for spring sticks. I did with mine and couldn't recentre it again properly. The control options appeared central but it didn't feel at all right. If I never use trim at all I don't find it too difficult to fly but once Ive pressed that button it all changes...

As someone who used the jet hmds in both eyes for comfort I am resisting doing the same here to try and be a bit more realistic. I tried the moncule and the immersion is great but I'm not sure if I can keep it yet.... Overall this is an amazing module, being in the back seat with all that depth ahead of you in VR is really something. So far no FPS problems but not yet tried flir...

For me my windows update had stopped working. Said I had an internet issue except I could access web pages? Router reboot did work so I'm puzzled what happened. Seemed like starting the update upset some settings on my PC. Maybe just a co-incidence... I got to accept the update, then failure. Have you tried sfc /scannow at cmd. That can help sort out issues.

I've used many GR tutorials and always found that they had a place and gets you going fairly well. However if you have ever seen him on twitch it's clear he doesn't enjoy making them, gets frustrated and wants to get them done quickly. So probably better for him just to stick to what he likes. A shame maybe but others will fill the gap no doubt.
