I've got a 7800GT and 81.x drivers and after playing one missions, all subsequent missions all clouds dissapear, even though i get their reflection in water. There are other anaomolies too, like in the su33 quick start mission the plane has no shadow effects on full shadows, and is constantly coloured as if in 'shadow'. Oh this is v 1.02 Edit: And not to mention the harsh black jagged lines around coastal edges when views at certain angles.

I think a DC is needed. It give you a purpose in nursing that wounded plane all the way back to base after only partially damaging the target.

I think no matter what, more optimization is required in whatever ED releases next. Even at a mediocre LOD performance isn't constantly adequate. It's the main reason why I havn't purchased FC and I very much suspect it will be a deciding factor in any of their future software.

I'd suggest your next upgrade be a new motherboard, so you can support newer processors and remove the need for RDRAM (which is rubbish and very expensive). 2GB of RAM is recommened for games coming out over the next few months, and seeing as how DDR is so cheap at the moment, (you can get hold of 2GB DDR PC3200 for £70 max) it's a worthwhile investment.

Actually, there is a performance increase, you have to turn on Catalyst AI, in the CCC. It is nowhere near a 50% increase though, and makes no difference on overcast clouds (the original article didn't mention overcast cluods, it refers to the volumetric scattered cumulous clouds). I get about an extra 4 fps is normal and good weather, no change in overcast.
