I just bought the Mi-8 and had no problem with mapping the cyclic and throttle on the X52 Pro. I have no idea what the problem is, could you maybe have not tried shutting down DCS world after installing the Mi-8 before trying to map?... maybe your hook up on the stick became loose. Sorry for not having any help, but it did work okay on my X52 Pro.

Stand up and be counted all ye Mi-8 operators

I already had the KA-50, then the Huey, so I was going to skip the Mi-8, then I was going to wait, then I bought... that's life I guess. -
FPS and Mi-8: your experience?
jimcarrel replied to BaD CrC's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
You did say that you had a cray computer? -
So you can't pan up? Can you pan left and right or down? Never heard of this problem before. What about in a mission? Can you pan in a mission?

It would be nice for the usual field mod of taped string. I would think that DCS engine would support it (KA50 uses such physics)

I'm a total noob when trying to explain air dynamics, but, the word "transitional" is used for a reason. In ground effect, you are literally floating on the compressed air underneath you (developed by rotor down-wash) when you start going forward and adding speed you are transitioning from a stable float to using the lift of the rotors and it will stumble (so to speak) until you fully leave the ground effect and are actually using the lift of the rotor blades. In a twin rotor, as opposed to a tri-blade rotor, the effect, or stumble is more apparent. It could be that our Huey might be a little exaggerated in that "stumble", but maybe not. ---- sounds good to me. Okay, somebody else's turn.

As far as I know (reading), doors were almost always open. Nam was hot and humid. Whenever possible, they would fly at altitude rather than treetops in order to get cooler air. Nothing worse than being in a tincan with doors closed and with heat and humidity trying to ruin your day.

What is the install procedure for the 1.2.5 torrent?

The last Huey with the possible 22 on board was second in line, that chopper flew from his LZ thru through the 1st Huey's LZ, after 4 previous trips into the LZ, there was no way that the Zone was Less than the 40 or 50 yards needed for transitional lift. Also, you saw them in person re-telling you the event. So it must have worked. It was a tremendous piece of work, I would have been taking swings at the field commander also. (and smiling at him). Pretty upside down to get a major ass-chewing for helping save about a hundred people, even if it was an unarmed VIP chopper.

I pledged,, we need more.

I've tried using that recipe, but since I didn't have a black tennis shoe to measure with, it didn't turn out very well. Always follow directions precisely in order to obtain the best results.

FSX is good for procedures, but it teaches you nothing about what you really get from control input. Like my Piper trip. The rudders were remarkably touchy as compared to my desktop time. My first fifty feet of taxi was a circus to behold. One thing I didn't mention, the reason I forgot to do the trimming, was basically because my eyes were for the most part "glued" to the VSI. I was told we were going to make the trip at 1800 feet and by George I was going to keep us at that altitude. Totally forgetting trim wheel. In a Huey, I'll tell you what I think would happen. You gradually would pull collective and as soon as you left the ground you would notice the yaw induced from the torque, hit the rudder (and even if you remembered which foot to use to pull the opposite direction) and it would be too much, your brain would go bye bye and you would have that craft somewhere else other than a "good" place.

Translating all this to fixed wing..... I had been flying FSX for several years when my son-in-law traded tractor work for a flight in a Piper Warrior (from a small airport in Oklahoma city, 60 minutes west to another small airport and back) The generous gentleman with the plane was an instructor. It ended up being a flight where I took off from Okc, flew to the other airport and did the approach. He took the yoke and landed from about 50 ft. My Son in law took off and took us back to OKC. Instructor did that landing also. I've got to tell you, Instructor pointed out the airport we were going to land at (we made the flight at 1800 feet) and I couldn't make it out until about the point where I needed to do a descending left turn toward it. I was tickled pink because with yoke an rudder work I did the most beautiful descending turn that I could ever hope to do. The turn ended with the aircraft perfectly lined up for runway approach. After taxiing to hanger, he asked me how many times I had flown, I had to confess and tell him I've flown FSX for several years. He couldn't believe that was my only flight experience. Guess what, He and his wife regularly fly FSX now. He says it is a bit cheaper to keep up with his basic flight procedures that way. The part of the flight I made, I was so hyped up from the feeling of all the sensory input from real flight as opposed to desktop flying, I completely forgot about trimming, He was busy doing that and working the radio. I felt like an idiot due to that.

At some point in time, you're going to have to make a vid about blowing stuff up.

geloxo, loved every second of your video!

May as well read it, cause it ain't half bad.

Darndest movie I ever watched, KUDOS!

The reason that you can only fire a minimum of two rockets, is that imbalanced loads can be a bit uncomfortable to fly with. You generally (on almost all aircraft) cannot fire a single ordinance unless it is loaded on the center-line of the aircraft.

Thanks!

will seed for the next 16 hours. Cheers!

Must be a good tactic, "I got around it each time by simply clicking until the box disappeared and the next item came up", cause that is what I had to do the first time.

Track IR Yaw plane not horizontal
jimcarrel replied to Mazzic's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Thanks for asking about this and thank you for the info on how to fix. I felt something was strange with the panning view, but for some reason I couldn't quite put my finger on it. -
It's a keeper, no disappointment here, nope, not nary a one!

In \Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Doc\Charts, you can find a pdf with airports and airbase information. No NDB's listed, but it lists the ils and tower frequencies. One could check the frequencies listed in the briefing map for the first UN campaign mission and check airbase pdf to see which frequencies are used. (tower or Ils), then decide which radio to use. Just guessing.

Check pages 84 and 85 in the manual. (oops, maybe 83 & 84). The map in first UN mission gives the station channels on route to destination.
