Bearcat Eye Candy

Have you been able to get any close up detail shots? I happen to live 20 minutes north or a real life F8F-1b that is airworthy. If you need some stuff let me know and maybe I can talk to the curator?

Always handy to know for sure,

We have been up close and personal with The Fighter Collections own Bearcat F8F-2

Alot of the fine detail work on the engine and cowling etc varies with the two variants, but the offer is very much appreciated :)

I am saving eye candy for those coming to Duxford to have a peek but rest assured for those that cant make it there will be some on the forums and facebook on the Monday/Tuesday after

Can't wait to fly this beauty. Seen it on display and in flight at Duxford in the past july. The model looks great so far. Can I ask you how many polys right now? Thanks

circa 120k at the moment without the cockpit done or the engine finished.

Expected to be about 200k with basic cockpit when complete :)

Great looking little plane, always been a fan. Another candidate to take part in a bit of air racing after a hard day at war also...

Yeah indeed Python.

When I was at Dux last week picking up our passes to get in this weekend we're setting up our pc's this weekend right next to her :)

All success to you Ells & Co. hope you have a great show and good weather.

Looking forward to reading about it.

Here they have been having some practices with heavy aircraft at Kline Brogel today, and something large and multi piston engines lumbered and rumbled past right now but could not see what it was.

Got some more snippets of the Bearcat for you.

I am sure James wont mind me saying but he has been very very unwell recently so the Bearcat modelling and work has taken abit of a hit. But he has thankfully been making a great recovery and thought that you might like to see some of his latest work :)

Any effect on release is TBC and I will get into more of that as the P-40 reaches our testers

A good start, plenty left to do, keep trucking, this one's going to show the Doras what's what eventually.

Easily my favourite warbird, the Bearcat.

Yup totally, James wanted to show you guys that despite being very unwell the past couple of months he is now on the road to recovery and is getting stuck in the bearcat again.

With his now improving health is expect to see this come together quite quickly.

Alot of the missing bits are made and just need to get thrown together

I am totally stoked to buy this and experience its raw prop power. I am having trouble finding details on its combat history though - it seems Indo-China is the only theatre? Too late for wwii, reserve in Korea, to early for Vietnam ?

As far as I know that's pretty much what happened to the Bearcat - born too late to make the last world war. Still an epic machine though! :pilotfly:

They started delivering it in Feb/Mar 45 and the first unit became operational in May 45 so it may fit into the current WWII roster. It would definitely be interesting to see how it would fare against the Dora/K4 ... can't really see putting it up against Mig15s. The climb rate in this thing to 10k ft is insane which may make it a bitch to put on combat WWII servers.

I am sure some creative mission maker will come up with something ;)

Perhaps something with racing pylons ;) But then it would need an opponent wouldnt it...perhaps something made by Hawker...

Folding...

Is that your semi-official announcement that you'll be making the absolute zenith, apex and apogee of piston engined aircraft, Eric Browns favourite prop plane and mind bogglingly beautiful DeHavilland Sea Hornet?

I kid, well sort of, I'd buy both that and the Seafury without a second thought.
