Can I know what the rational is behind not at least restricting aircraft to a side?

I played today, and it was the East vs West mission. This made the server twice as fun right off the bat. Russian planes vs NATO is much more fun than every air frame vs every air frame.

Is there any reason that this isn't done for most missions?

Iam sure thats for balancing reasons.

As NATO side has no cabable SEAD Aircraftc like SU25-T or attack helicopters like the KA-50.

Also C Amraams are more cabable than R-27ERs.

But maybe there are other reasons.

It is pretty much to keep the balance, Op Bison/Backfire the missions you're referring are the ones I find the teams will often become unbalanced.

They're also plenty who don't always like this and want the freedom to balance the team while flying their favourite airframe.(and against it)

Personally I like it every now and again but would get bored if it runs too much, especially as other servers do this TAW, BlueFlag ect.

Could you move the french skin for the m2000 on the blue side and the uae skin on the red side?

unfortunately, no. to do that, we would have to redo all our missions. they were mostly made before the mirage came out, so there was no reason to have UAE on red side. and to change coalitions you have to rebuild the mission. (I mean, I am sure there is a work around, but we wont risk the mission stability for a skin change.)

however the russian mirage only offers the french skin with red stars. and in order to avoid the red and blue mirage sharing the same skin, we went for the UAE skin on blue side.

So, sry, mate, the answer is no.

Yes, we have all aircraft available on both sides to help balance the server.

Very often (but not always) the F-15 is the most flown A2A aircraft flown on our server, we have them on both sides so the teams have a chance at being even.

If there are lots of F-15 pilots on Blue, it gives clients the option of fighting against them in an F-15 on the Red Side.

We have the 2 restricted missions in play to change it up from time to time, as we like flying the East vs West style just as much as the next guy!

But sometimes the best fun you can have in DCS as a fighter pilot is killing another F-15C from your Eagle. He had all the same tools you did, you're alive and he is dead .... good times!

We gave the Red side the R-27ER on Operation Bison to fight against the Blue side with Aim7 and Aim9 only to change the balance of BVR power in favor of the Russian Aircraft. As most of our missions feature the AMRAAM we wanted to mix things up a bit so Eagle drivers have to work a bit harder to get kills while staying alive. Its also a great incentive for clients to fly on the Red side, as traditionally the Blue side is the most popular coalition on our server.

Feedback

Maverick explained it a gazillion times, but I will try to explain it again, here is what I posted on our forums recently. Hate is nothing unusual for us, but ok, let us try again:

It is quite normal that a lot of ppl simply don't know what has gone into keeping DCS MP alive over the past ten years. it is great and we love to see that recently more and more good servers are popping up. what a lot of ppl dont know anymore: at times it was basically only three squadrons, us, the 51st and =4C=, who did something, later we got help from the 74th. and I don't want to boast here, it is simply how it was. There were some ruff times in between FC2 and DCS World. DCS A-10C split the community in half, we had to host two servers to cater, there were times in between when pilots on the server were so new, that we literlly flew without missiles, so that they could kill us and have a success feeling and keep flying. no joking here. we did and tried everything to not let MP die, together with the 51st. hours and hours of administration, event hosting and thousands of dollars went into it, not to speak of everything else which I forgot in the meantime. And by all means, this is not a complaint, this is our pride and huge luck. We may seem sometimes a bit secluded, maybe a bit arrogant, but really the one thing that drives our squadron above all is: community service. (And really, most of our members put in too many hours to mention into that. Daily.)

That is why our server (we are working on a second more realistic one atm) is set up as brought as it is. we want it to have a certain "hardcore" entry level for new players, means diving into the world without any assists, externals, etc... but at the same time giving them a chance to fly as "safe" as they prefer. an example: one of the most suggestions we get is to put the strikers on the front line, as it seems more realistic. of course it does. now, we did that some time ago: the result: when the server was low on ppl, it is usually strikers who populate it first, and then one or two fighters join. now these fighters find all those unprotected strikers at the FEBA. Guess what happened and guess what the complaint of the very same strikers was, who requested to be put at the FEBA. Of course they were happy to be back in "safety" the next mission around. And those were very very good and experienced pilots.

The 104th server is also mainly a 24/7 server. That makes it special in regards of teamwork: it doesnt always work, because the team changes several times a day (timezones!). However that also means that no matter when you join - and that was always our top goal - there is SOMEONE for you to fly with. Always. Of course there are up and downtimes, but one thing is sure, no matter when you want to fly MP, you can, because of the 24/7 server that tries to make as many ppl happy as possible. The missions we host have been balanced out through 10 years of MP experience. And in those ten years a lot of input from the community brought us closer and closer to a middle line. That doesn't make our server super special. But it makes it reliable, it makes it most stable and it makes it most accessible. That we think is a good ground base to help the community grow.

When it comes to realism however we would be the first who would love to see something more realistic, even much more realistic than blue flag (which is a masterpiece and great fun). But even the smallest adjustments, like say crosswind above 3m/s gets heavily rejected by the community. A year ago we weren't able to host cloud covers because the eastern european part of DCS was still catching up with hardware. Now, we don't blame them, in contrary we still want to include them. ATM we are thinking of hosting an Asia 104th server, because we have to exclude so many chinese and japanese pilots due to high ping. Very sad for us. So these are the set backs when you really try to make it good for everyone - worldwide. we live in many different realities, all of which have a right to coexist in our opinion.

But realism is something we love, as long as it makes sense within the boundries of the sim. We try to show that in the way we fly, which of course also has up and downtimes, but when it comes to flying, arcadish isn't exactly what would describe us, I hope. In contrary: many of the real life tactics, that are used in DCS today have been brought to the sim by the old squadrons, like the 51st, the =RVE=, the 104th and its predecessor the 169th Panthers with the help of the 44th Vampires and others. For the F-15 the major part came from us, of course. And today more than ever we are willing to share all of these tactics which actually have been optimised for DCS with the community. We think that the better everyone flies the more fun there is to have. The standard on the 104th server was much higher some years ago. But that is because the community was so much smaller. So when you enter a balanced 24/7 server, naturally when it comes to realism, the more we grow, the more we have to balance our expectations as well.

As for the criticism: please bring it on! Please challenge us, so that we can improve for your MP experience. But if you call us a cancer, like someone did recently on facebook lol, don't forget that it is still you why we do what we do. ;-)

Thank you all and S!

... deep breath...

Sounds like you guys have gone through quite a lot. I kinda felt the burden of it all from only reading it and surely that ain't all there is to be told! While most of us just want to fly others make sure it happens. I've had some critics in the past regarding realism such as Su-27's are only for the red team and F-15C's are only for the blue team. Same thing with strikers helicopters, etc. Although I've always sensed the impossibility of being able to please everyone, all you've mentioned above simply underlines it and confirms it. Having the strikers carrying out their missions away from any enemy fighters is yet another issue but it's ok now, I get the point. The 104th and later the TAW servers were my first. Later on I wanted more realisim and/or more dynamics and of course have found it in Blue Flag (and recently in the TAW - The Kaukasus Offensive as well). Sure if I want to hoan my fighter skills or striker skills without any kind of hostile interference you'll find me there in your skies.

About hosting other servers: Is it gonna include the same missions with the same conditions but simply for other parts of the world or will it also gradualy but surely take us to the next level as in Blue Flag or TAW etc.?

A year ago I posted a thread on your website's forums regarding older modules. I know the nature of missions we have is simply not suitable for the MiG-15bis or the F-86F, but would be nice to have 2 slots reserved for them on each side in a mission with secondary TA's (the ones for the Huey, Hip, Fishbed etc.) like Op. Leopard and so on. But that's not so damn necessary if it's too much of an inconvenience.

Make sure you guys get some rest as well cause it sounded like you deserve it ;)

Stay healthy, fly safe and God bless!

Ok, let us not spill all the beans before we have even set the field to plant them. But what we are thinking, is more something towards (military) VAT SIM. And we will need all help to get the community slowly there. But, it is too early to talk big right now.

At the beginning we will start hosting Nevada maybe once a week, same set ups as main dedi. gradually we will tweak it towards realism.

Once we start the process, we will include the community in building this "reality thing" from the get go.

(two more weeks) :D

Looks like the update messed up the Mirage's center line fuel tank.

*****SOMETHING NEW FOR YOU TO DO*****

25BKPow_FotoPoork_FM_00007.jpg

Big thanks goes to 104th_Knight for implementing the MIST script and the CTLD script in our missions.

Big thanks goes also to Ciribob, Speed and Grimes for creating, improving and sharing these scripts. (Did I forget someone?)

MIST: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=98616&highlight=MIST

CTLD: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=143107&highlight=CTLD

The CTLD script and command menu will probably be known to many of you from Blueflag. It is called Complete Transport and Logistics Deployement and does exactly that.

From now on Hueys and Mi-8s will be able to fulfill transport missions that will not only allow them to influence, but also to dominate the battlefield.

Enter your CTLD command menu through your default radio menu and F10.

What you can (and have to) do:

1. Your first task is to build a FOB in order to open a supply line. Mostly you will have to clear some light targets at an abondoned / captured FARP with your Huey or Mi-8. So take some weapons!

After capturing you can land and rearm, refuel there. but you still have to build your FOB. This will increase the range of your supply line and you will be able to take crate from there. A FOB needs 3 crates to be build. the crates need to be brought from the main base where you start- read the briefing for exact locations.

2. Set up defenses. Or join the fight. You can either deploy SAMs (Kub needs one launcher and one radar), repair them (when they run out of ammo), build a defense network on strategic points, coordinate with fighters, or deploy troops on the battlefield as you see fit.

3. AA sams etc will mostly use more than one crate to be build, a TOR needs for example four crates. once you have build your fob, you can get them there and save flight time. Each chopper can carry only one crate at a time, but you can load troops additionally (manpads, etc).

4. Kubs are restricted, only a certain number can be set up

5. You have total freedom where you want to set up your sams. be strategic. repair, dont waste. and push towards bullseye, even better: push the enemy back. to be effective: coordinate with the fighters!

6. once you have deployed all crates you have to unpack all crates via the CTLD command menu.

7. when sams or other units run out of ammunition, a repair crate will refill them

8. Be daring, build even more FOBs even close to the front. dominate the battlefield and watch your sams clear the skies!

We very much hope these additions will give more joy to our heli pilots and above all: we hope to promote more teamplay through this. The helis will be exposed on their quest towards the fronts, so fighters, your prime job is now to protect them.

Enjoy and thank you for flying.

S!

PS: Stay tuned for a screenshot contest for new year, the prizes will be amazing and we have a surprise partner!

January will host another round of Red Flag and much more stuff is coming...

Beginning of january will host another public training.

This new mission is amazing... Yesterday red team put the SAM sites pretty close to bullseye. That made it a bit more difficult to reach their CAP. And there where some surprise manpad launcher units dropped. You had to be very careful. But we send 104th Jester (if i'm correct) to wipe them out in a SU-25. Off course there where some people that could not deal with these changes and work around it or ask for SEAD and help the SEAD out with escorting. So they left :D :D

Go in close, and when you think you are too close, go in closer.

It was 104th_Knight who we sent in to clear them out mate, he did a great job trying to fight against the =DW= guys who were placing the enemy ground troops!

It was a great night :D
