Iv had very few problems after upgrading to windows 10, only had to re install 2 of my drivers. after some testing I also seem to have gained 5-7 extra FPS in DCS :D

I recomend a clean install,

Followed by re-installing directX and MS Visual C++ Runtimes 2010-2015.

(Trust me, they arent all there)

Fresh Driver Install for GPU,

Then do normal O/S Clean Up and Optimizing *(shut off stuff you wont use or need etc etc).

Windows testers are currently testing updated memory management, no clue on when it will hit retail updates, it's only on the fast ring and higher level testers, slow ring and lower level testers dont have access to the update yet.

Well, I had to give it a shot! After countless hours of doing a fresh install and to setup DCS to match the same configuration as compared to the previous upgrade , the results were exactly the same,, same exact frame rates on all my benchmarking,,, not what I expected,,, not the end of the world,, just disappointing. As soon as 1.5 gets rolled out and debugged and a fair assessment of what hardware is best suited, I will be upgrading anyway to optimize,,,,

I wont dispute that, but if you read through all these postings, you will find that anyone that mentioned a performance change stated they seen an FPS increase, I was the only one that reported a decrease. long story short, I took your advise and did a fresh install.

Fakum sir I am in no way putting you down.

This is a prime example of what I meant when I said "A Fresh Install" is not a PC Technicians answer to correcting an error or problem.

Once all is set back up adding the program or item that caused the issue in the first place will always leave you back to square one.

I bet dollars to donuts the issue with this i5 is the overclock as it relates to the motherboard.

I do not recall seeing your initial posts.

I take no offence to your response what so ever, you have always been of great incite on these forums. Although I don’t see your response as being lased with criticism, I always welcome any constructive criticism just the same.

To keep this simple, this was simply a matter of me going from windows 7 to upgrading to windows 10. I benchmarked before and after and found on average a 5 FPS drop. This was contrary to what most had reported, an actual performance increase. Since I could not pin down the cause, it was suggested that a fresh install might resolve the issue, after all, there is always a chance that the upgrade might have mucked up the works, so it seemed to be a logical approach, I did it, and no favorable results. That’s about it,, and thanks as always for your response.

Windows 10 User Name Change Issues?

Anyone have trouble with the fact that Windows 10 changes your user name to match your MSN account and can't easily be renamed?

For example instead of

C:\Users\Dave

You might get

C:\Users\davec

And that's where DCS keeps your Saved Game file.

Any trouble with DCS understanding the change?

I haven't reinstalled it yet on W10

I tried copying in a Saved Game folder from another game but it didn't work. Maybe there's some other reason. I only tried it once so far.

It shouldn't matter to DCS since I am sure windows just passes the path to DCS as some sort of environment variable.

Fakum, i simply wen back to Win 7 , and i am back at my45-60 FPS in triple monitor.

I just wanted to tell you that it might be your 8gb of Ram, maybe thats not enough, i asked my pc guy because i also had 8gb of RAM and he said it was the minimum for Win10?? I havent tested it because i went back to Win7 but i did get more RAM at good price. Preparing in advance for NTTR and Edge because recomended is 16gb although minimum is 8gb.

Ahhh!! You do mention a good point.

Win10 is Ram hungry with the default settings in place. I am sure that the issue with lower FPS. is related to Motherboards chipset drivers for Win10. Along with the "Potential" for Ram being at fault also.

ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe has a "Gen3" moniker and this is why I would bet dollars to donuts it is the cause.

Well then! I appreciate that feedback, that's the 1st time it was mentioned to me,, I never gave it a thought myself,, much appreciated. My intent is to do a major upgrade for 1.5, I'm waiting for results of hardware before I commit to anything. My hopes are that by the Christmas time sales, we will all have a better understanding on what PC components we should be running for best performance. I intend to start a thread in the hardware section (if not already created) on what should I buy?

Thanks guys

P.S. I'm not sure what you mean about my MOBO having a moniker of Gen3 I must admit. I think your point was that my MOBO may be a bit old? I don't see Gen3 as an issue itself, you could have a new MOBO come out tomorrow as Gen 1, and 2 months later they are redesigned to Gen 3, and its the latest and greatest,,,

I've had some problems with crashing in Windows 10 that I didn't with 8.1.

Not a lot, I've had 2 CTDs in flight, and had it hard freeze to the point where I had to reboot the system because I couldn't end the task even with task manager.

Also I've had numerous "DCS has stopped working" boxes pop up on exiting a mission.

One of the biggest things with Win10 is their chipset drivers for motherboards.

Along with the drivers for GPUs' the initial release of the Nvidia driver was a failure.

The Sound Card Drivers for the Sound Blaster Fatality and the like was also a problem.

Post your system specs. maybe someone has your same set up and can give you/us some insight as to what they did to fix this issue.

I figured it out. Most games you have to start a campaign in order to create the Save Game folder in the first place. Then just replace the files there.
