ENO
EDIT: Rider1 seems to have found a solution. He posted modified smoke files for download HERE in post 138. I ran the same track as above and didn't go below 30. It does cut down on the amount of time smoke is visible- but it resolves the issue for now. As he recommends, back up the two files in question, then simply load his. Instructions are available on the page. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Driving a 980X @ 4.1 and a GTX680 at stock speeds... I'll reserve the commentary because I know it won't help- but seriously it would be nice if this would get fixed. In the interim I'm hunting down the thread where it talked about adjusting the smoke particles... I've heard that helped in the past. If anyone finds it before I do can you post the link? If I find it I'll post it here. Edited April 6, 2013 by ENO Temp solution found "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. Mustang
Are these destroyed ground units or crashed aircraft?
ENO
Destroyed units. Admittedly there are quite a few (15-20) in a true Hells kitchen scenario. I did get a lead to try bazaar, effects, expl and adjust a setting from 400 to 100 and I'll report back. SkateZilla
400 Particles of Black Smoke TGA for a simple smoke trail/stack is way too much TBH. I'd drop it to like 25-50 Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs
ENO
I pulled it to 50 and saw some difference but may be placebo- the suggested fix was one to contend with a CBU issue so not sure it even related. Still hoping for some additional suggestions "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. 159th_Viper
Destroyed units. Admittedly there are quite a few (15-20) in a true Hells kitchen scenario..... That's hardly anything at all. I'll test this asap and if the issue persists, report as a matter of urgency. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Click me to commence your Journey of Pillage and Plunder! SkateZilla
i think the problem maybe the TGA's themselves or the shader. (shrug) or a global shader, as Gun Smoke from multiple cannons (p-51) seem to hit the FPS too, along with rocket launches) I'll look at some things this weekend while i build panels and gauges in max. But TGA's Killed FrameRates, even when used sparingly in other sims too. ENO
A few more photos of that scenario above- plus some comparisons. I'm sure the point is made- but this is the view JUST below when the smoke enters the scene... This is obviously looking up about an inch or so... you'll notice how it is now 9 instead of 7. I had done a driver update by then but didn't get the notice to change the particles until afterwards. I went in after in a different part of the mission and found another collection and we were up to 15 (with the particle affect applied) but it wasn't the SAME situation or location as it is below. I know contrails were an issue before too- probably contributing to a different problem but I free-viewed over to a nearby flight of AI in orbit to check out affect on frames... Maybe that one got fixed? Maybe some other conditions- anyway... Thanks Viper for taking a look for us. "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. Ranger79
I am having the same issue and many members of our flying group are as well. Happens in SU25, ka50, and A10c. I can be fine but look left or right and view smoke, low low fps. My last few videos it happens often. Hope there is a fix soon. Rider1
It was introduced in the patch of the 1.2.3 update. Maybe related to this: Crashed and burning aircraft now produce smoke. It affects all burning units. It is not related to the boom1.lua particles settings. I also deleted that smoke smoke1.tga in the same expl directory and the smoke still appears, so I think that dir is a dead end. Took a two shots and zoomed in on exactly what the offending effect is. That is/was a burning truck. Look at the second screen shot of the almost dissipated smoke. It is still hammering the frame rate. That is the problem. ENO
viper... I HAVE to ask even though I know you may not be able to answer... But what are the odds of them putting that fix out with a couple others in a 1.2.3 11000 patch or something to that effect? Or do these limitations have something to do with the 32bit environment somehow? "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret.
