PoleCat Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 I thought you might like to see these 3D screenshots of the Black Shark cockpit. You will need red/blue cheapo 3D glasses to view them. :D Out http://www.104thphoenix.com/
104th_Crunch Posted October 2, 2009 Posted October 2, 2009 Are you playing in 3D as well Polecat? What kind of setup are you using if you are? Cool stuff.
PoleCat Posted October 2, 2009 Author Posted October 2, 2009 Hi Crunch, Not flying in 3D at the moment. I may get the viewsonic 22" 120Hz monitor and try it out. This is the nvidia driver stereo application using red/blue glasses. One thing that I have noticed is that even with red/blue glassesI can tell the technology has come a long way. Used to be when you would zoom in and out in LockOn or Black Shark there would be really bad alignment problems. This appears to be pretty well resolved here. I game with a Viewsonic 28" in the middle and 2x22" Samsungs on the side now. I don't know how I will take to a smaller one for 3D. Maybe projectors though.......... Out http://www.104thphoenix.com/
Bek Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Anyone tried this with the nvidia 3d glasses? Not sure if they support this game, would be damn interesting though! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
PoleCat Posted October 3, 2009 Author Posted October 3, 2009 Yes it does support this game and LockOn. They are both rated as "good". I am seriously considering this the more I think about it. Out http://www.104thphoenix.com/
Kirai Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 Anyone tried this with the nvidia 3d glasses? Not sure if they support this game, would be damn interesting though! But with the 3d glasses you need a special 3d monitor (samsung) don't you? I mean on a normal monitor like mine 60 hz does not work? Go Ugly Early
Kirai Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 (edited) Google it ;) Oh I have looked into this before on the nvidia homepage and what I understand it do need a special monitor. I looked again and yes it needs a 120 hz monitor and it gets rather pricy so well I think I have to stand back for this at the moment even though it sounds cool :) Edited October 3, 2009 by Kirai Go Ugly Early
PoleCat Posted October 3, 2009 Author Posted October 3, 2009 You can use RED/Blue glasses and see the effects but without good color. Witha 120Hz monitor and the proper polarized glasses it is much better. The other option is certain DLP projectors which are also supported. I am leaning that way as I like big. Doggy Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 I have tried the R/B glasses... Its unbelievable experience for free flying!!! Hovever it is not usable very well in missions. The HUD has not proper displaying "depth". It is displaying as a drawing on transparent planar foil. It means you are almost not able to point on any target e.g. while firing the cannon. I'm not sure, but I assume that real HUDs are set to infinity. So no matter if you are looking with just one eye or both the HUD points to the same place still. Some images.... luke88 Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Personally, I would love to see this implemented properly. I have wondered how hard it would be for ED to fix the hud display depth issue from a programming stand point. I am not a programmer, but it could be as simple as changing the z value for the readout. With enough interest in 3d, it could possibly find it's way into a patch. I have tried the analgyph stereo 3d with Black Shark and aside from this one small issue with the hud, the 3d effect is outstanding... but the lack of readability of the hud does tend to wreck the immersion. You really need the hud readings to display as though they are well ahead of the nose of the aircraft (infinity?).
Chizzy101 Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Having read a few reviews about Nvidia's new 3D set-up, I'm extremely temped to head down this path. Everyone that uses them is impressed with the immersion it adds. This could be the next big thing for flight sims in general, and particularly Black Shark where so much time is spent at low altitudes. I hope that the problem with the HUD is fixable. PoleCat Posted October 29, 2009 Author Posted October 29, 2009 Well I have gone ahead and purchased the 22" Viewsonic 120Hz monitor. Now I am just waiting till I have the money to get the glasses.......... Out http://www.104thphoenix.com/

Doggy Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 Be prepared for some FPS hit. On my config it is around 15 - 20 (win 7 x64) in free flight. Heavy missions will be probably worst. Deigs Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 I will be buying this tech for sure. Just have to wait till the X mas crunch to the wallet is over, then BAM. 3D gaming for Deigs.... Can't wait. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 161 Squadron Australia's DCS Community
beers Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 My experiments with the red/blue glasses showed the helmet-mounted-eye sight was weird. It couldn't figure out if it wanted to be on the right or the left eye, flickered back and forth. But the red/blue thing was amazing, I can only imagine the system with the glasses is incredible. 2600K @ 4.2GHz, MSI P67A-GD55, 16GB G.Skill @2133 , GTX 970, Rift, SSD boot & DCS drive [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

G3 Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 looking thru the 2 colour glasses, my kids had some :) picture 3 of the cyclic in the first post is bloody amazing, moving myself around the screen makes the cyclic appear to move it really jumps out at you, it may need some refining but this technology has some serious potential. my youngest exclaiming " i can touch it, i can touch it" as she reached out towards the screen with the 3d glasses perched on her little snoz :D and the pic of the undercarriage front gear, that wheel is in your face
sweinhart3 Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 I was using the shutter glasses with a 61" DLP. It was great except for the HUD issue. I tried time after time to get a rocket or shell to hit on target and couldnt do it without getting lucky. So I just sold my tv to get a projector. So much for 3d but when I can afford it ill have 3 projectors for a surround view. Intel i7 990X, 6GB DDR3, Nvidia GTX 470 x2 SLI, Win 7 x64 http://picasaweb.google.com/sweinhart
