PoleCat & Conuk:

I too am having problems getting Windows 7 64 and Cougars to run. I get the same "STTubeDevice203.dll is missing ....

What did you do to get your Cougars working???

PoleCat: What is "UAC"????????

Posted (edited)

in the search and programs text bar (on the windows start button)

type UAC

'change user account settings'

mine is set to dont notify.... it sometimes blocks certain drivers/programs running or generally tries to protect you from everything!

as for the driver ... right click and run as administrator.... or try windows vista comp mode.

one of those ended up working for me.

hope this helps.

Unfortunately I have already tried that.

I wonder if it has something to do with my Motherboard or USB Controllers.

I had even called “Thrustmaster Tech Support” today and they also told me about the vista compatibly mode with admin rights.

Tech support said they are working on a “real” windows 7 32 & 64 bit install software/drivers for HOTAS Cougars but did not know when it will be available for the public.

I am at a total loss here!

Thanks for your help

im trying to think the last time this happended to me because even with above tips it still gave an error after I reinstalled..... so we know it works but I couldnt remember the last time the steps....I ended up system restore and installing driver again and it worked so something I did install must have caused the error as well.... Antivirus in the way? (I use kaspersky) try disabling it.... and restart windows after installing driver...

Cougar work nice in Windows 7 64bits RC and Windows 7 64bits Ultimate.

Method for correct installation is the comment by PoleCat.

1. Download drivers http://ts.thrustmaster.com/eng/index.php?pg=view_files&gid=1&fid=3&pid=50&cid=1 Special attention in download x64, NOT x86.

2. Unplug USB of Cougar of the Computer.

3. Deactive UAC in Windows.

4. Right Click on the Driver downloaded, and press Properties.

5. Go to Compatibility column, in Compatiblity Mode, mark this and select 'Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)'. In bottom mark 'Execute this program with Administrator permissions'. Click OK.

6. Execute installation file drivers, follow all steps, not forgotten installation in one step claim connect the USB of Cougar to the computer. Complete all steps.

7. Restart computer.

8. Click Right in 'HOTAS Cougar Control Panel' and select Properties, in Compatibility column select in bottom 'Execute this program with Administrator permissions'. Click OK.

9. Fly in to the skies.

I followed the instructions you've given, as far as to running the .exe. When I dbl-click it I'm asked if I really want to uninstall the drivers. First I said yes, 'cos I figured I would just run it again and install them again, but nooo. No such luck.

Does anyone know what the heck is wrong?? I'm near desperate. Please help :)

Yep this was my problem. The uninstall don't delete the directory and leaves some files over so it doesn't install again properly.

Which compatibility mode did you use (it should be Vista)?

Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base, MFG Crosswind pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S, Elgato Streamdeck XL.

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

I run my Cougar under Win7 x64 with no issues. AFAIK there is absolutely no need to run the Cougar programs (CCP, Foxy etc)in any compatibility mode under Win7 x64 (only the install). Use the software that is previously mentioned here that includes all the software and drivers for the Cougar in one package. This would be the filename 2007_HCO_VISTA_64_RC1.exe. Install as administrator, Vista SP2 compatibility mode, with UAC off.

Good Luck.

Foxy is not a separate install. The drivers, programs etc are all in the same package. If you are installing Foxy stand alone then that may be the problem.

For cougar on Windows 7 64 bit follow the instructions on this site:

http://www.cubpilotshangar.net/page105.html

1) If previously to install following this steps you already tried installing the sfotware, you must uninstall everything and manually delelte all the files and folders.

2) If you unistall, delete all files and folder, and the reinstall following the steps of the link, and still have problems, you are in the same trouble i found my self in. In this case, you have two options:

A- Full reinstall of windows 7, and then fresh install of the software following the steps of the link (not very good option).

B- Use restore point and return windows 7 to a previous state before the FIRST time that you installed (or tried intalling) the cougar drivers. Also not a pretty solution, but better than the first one.

I had two installs of windows 7 on two partitions, one for working and the other for gaming. When i encountered the problems with Cougar drivers, i followed the steps of the link, but still couldn´t make it work. When i tried installing on the other windows 7 install, the one i use for work, i followed the steps and since it was a FRESH install, it worked flawlesly. So i didn´t know what to do, noh motter how many times i tried uninstalling the software on my gaming partition and reinstalling, it never worked. Until i used restore point to a previous state before the first time i installed the software, and that SOLVED it.

Now its all working great, on both partitions, though i dont use the one on my work windows 7 install. :)

I've wrestled with this issue for some time trying to help a squadmate, and read this thread, together with many others, trying to find a solution. My Cougar works fine, and always has, in Windows 7. My squadmate, no matter what he tried, could not get away from the "The program can't start because sttubedevice203.dll is missing" message.

It was particularly frustrating because it didn't seem as if the file WAS missing; it was there to be found in the "drivers' folder.

Where it wasn't was in <System Drive>\Windows\SysWOW64. It should have been.

Once the file was copied from the drivers folder to SysWOW64, the message went away and the HOTAS files worked fine.

I hope this solution works for others, too.

I wonder if this would have the same effect without duplicating files:

  1. Open System properties (Win+Pause)
  2. Select Advanced system properties from the left-side menu
  3. Select the Advanced tab
  4. Click Environment Variables
  5. Select Path in the System Variables list
  6. Click Edit
  7. Add ";C:\Program Files (x86)\HOTAS\drivers" to the end of the text in the textbox (no quotes, but with the semicolon beforehand if the box isn't empty to start with)
  8. Click OK

That should include the HOTAS folder in the list of places to look for binaries, without having to put it directly into your system folder.

What I did to get it working.

1. Buy yourself one of these and install it: a04az.jpg

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=228619)

2. Start with a fresh install of Windows 7.

3. Install the chipset drivers for your motherboard (you must do this BEFORE you install the cougar) and reboot.

4. Install the Cougar software following this procedure:

1. Download drivers http://ts.thrustmaster.com/eng/index...3&pid=50&cid=1 Special attention in download x64, NOT x86.

2. Unplug USB of Cougar of the Computer.

3. Deactive UAC in Windows.

6. Execute installation file drivers, follow all steps, not forgotten installation in one step claim connect the USB of Cougar to the computer. Complete all steps.

7. Restart computer.

Hope this helps you guys. Edited by AustinN360
