Sunjammer Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Hi guys, new member, and recent newbie to DCS :-) So far, having finally gone and purchased a proper stick and throttle (though i still need pedals and am waiting for my trackIR to arrive) I'm having the time of my life. The only real frustration so far that I can't source to my own ineptitude is some response issues with the hotas slew stick. In calibration, the stick looks to perform exactly as expected. However in the game, when slewing anything, occasionally it's as though the game isn't picking up its input anymore, making slewing an exercise as i often have to "re-start" my slew from the center of the stick while moving the TAD cursor for instance. Originally i thought maybe DCS had a very high dead zone for the slew stick and thus sometimes "lost" it, but at this point I just don't know anymore. Is the slew response issues an artifact of how I'm slewing, as in an artifact of the simulation? Or is it actually an issue with the game itself.. Again, from testing the slew in calibration over and over again it's never given me anything that didn't look correct. Thanks for any enlightenment :-)
kylania Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 To be honest I never calibrated or configured anything with my WH and it works perfect. No TARGET profile, no calibrations, no special mapping. Just all defaults. As for the having to "restart" the slew, that happens all the time for me though. :) Happened with all three joy sticks I have used as well so I've always assumed it was part of the sim. heh For any "long distance" slewing I'll usually try to set a mark or SPI where I want something then slew via china hat to that spot. Also as far as the TGP is considered zoom out and look farther away for the slewing to be smoother. TAD hasn't ever really had slew issues for me though. 159th_Viper Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 In-Sim via the SP GUI/Controls screen, Axis-Tune the HOTAS Slew Horizontal and Vertical Axis to the following values - Joy_X: Deadzone = 5 Saturation_Y = 80 (or less if too zippy) Joy_Y: Deadzone = 5 Saturation_Y = 80 (or less if too zippy) See if that helps. Sunjammer Posted September 21, 2011 Author Posted September 21, 2011 Yeah it's definitely more pronounced with the TGP or MAV slew. I've done like you, recently, setting SPI through TAD and slaving to it to make things a little easier.. Sigh. Wish it was smoother ;-) It's so frustrating to have a clear idea of what you're trying to do, being an inch away from doing it, and then having a stumble you can't really explain. I only went into the calibration to check the slew hat in case there was something hardware related... Otherwise the WH has been working perfectly <3<3
shagrat Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 (edited) You may try adjusting the slew axis in the controls section of the sim. I did a more shallow curve in the center, so I have a finer control where you want tiny adjustments. I think I heard somebody telling the real life slew is more like a stick as the saitek x-65f has it on the throttle for the mouse, but I never saw the "real thing". I think about trying to remove the "cap" from the slew and put a longer stick and cap on it  ...still haven't enough courage to try it. Snaut Posted November 22, 2011 Posted November 22, 2011 (edited) I'm pretty sure it's not a problem with HOTAS Warthog, but a game bug. I assigned the "hotas slew" axes to another joystick and got exactly the same symptoms. The bug is easy to reproduce and consistent. Assign the "HOTAS slew" to analog axes, and try slewing in circles or "eights". Each time the stick crosses diagonal the sim loses track of one of the axes, causing intermittent motion, out of sync with the stick. kharne Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 I guess there's no fix for this year? I thought it was a problem with my HOTAS Slew, and remapped it to my Warthog HOTAS Trim (using the paddle as a modifier). Same problems... constantly have to "re-start" the slew. Somewhat frustrating after dropping $400 on my TM Warthog, and finding out the keyboard seems smoother for slewing my TGP and Mavericks. :joystick: Side note... the TM Warthog is still amazing! Wish I had bought one earlier. A co-worker got one (from his wife for Christmas... lucky bastard) and she said she didn't think it was worth the money. I told him my girlfriend said I would have been better off spending the money on her. He made a good point... "Our women have no concept of tank killing."
Kalahari Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 Just ordered mine from the US,vibrating with anticipation :). Ofcourse the wife will kill me,but its damn worth it. Rocky49 Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 Just got mine for Christmas...Love it but notice the same issue with the slew control...I have a X52 Pro that I used for the past year and it too did not have great fine control so perhaps this is a software problem. I'm going to try Viper's suggestion to see if it helps. MemphisBelle Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 Just got mine for Christmas... Lucky guy, I actually wanted to buy one within the next month...but things are always subject to change...hehehe. Washingmachine got broken today. So the actual planed and saved money will flow into a new washing mashine instead of a new Warthog... BlackSharkDen | BSD Discord | DCS Tutorial Collection

mrmac Posted March 11, 2012 Posted March 11, 2012 hi had issues with slew whit tm warthog in blackshark until i went to tune axis , then press reset and setup a nice curve hope thet helps cheers
JackFlash Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Hi all. I just bought my Hotas WH second hand and it seems to work just fine. Except for one thing... The slew control. I have read trough the forum and it seems to be a known issue. The problem is that i don't even know if it works at all. The sim don't assign the slew axis to any button. I can't assign the slew-axis to the slew button. (It won't recognize any input at all). I am starting to get worried that the Hotas is broken. I have done the calibration from TM. Whats is the best way to know if the slew control even is working? My latest project, the Multi Function Button Box can be found at Kickstarter.
Ghanja Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Just go into the regular Windows device panel. There you can check if all buttons and axes are working. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] .:: My System ::. .:: My Paintings ::.
JackFlash Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Just go into the regular Windows device panel. There you can check if all buttons and axes are working. And where do i find that in Windows 7? I just find the device and when I click it i get the standrard "Drivers Windows". No button maping at all... My latest project, the Multi Function Button Box can be found at Kickstarter.
Ghanja Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Unfortunately I am sitting in front of a Windows Xp machine rivcht now but it should work like this: Control Panel> Hardware and Sound>Devices and Printers. Right click your device and click on game controller settings than click on properties. Did Windows install any drivers when you first plugged in your TM Warthog? Be sure to have the latest drivers installed ... http://ts.thrustmaster.com/eng/index.php?pg=view_files&gid=1&fid=3&pid=311&cid=1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] .:: My System ::. .:: My Paintings ::.

spikenet Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 If you installed the Target programming suite there is a much better device watcher available in that to see everything is working as expected. Otherwise, Win7 device properties will show you the basics. I've never used the TMW plug-and-play but in my profile I have to set the "curves and scale" so the slew works as expected. cheers
JackFlash Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 I fiddeled around with Target yesterday, but i never found a button mapping, just a axis mapping. Where do i see i Target what buttons i press and if they work? My latest project, the Multi Function Button Box can be found at Kickstarter.
JackFlash Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 In my properties for the throttle, it looks like this: http://i.imgur.com/UTUY9.jpg I know it's in Swedish, but i hope you understand the important things. If the axis-controls in the upper left is supposed to move when i move the slew, it don't. And i cant seem to figure out wich button 22 is. No button lits up when i push the slew, button. The driver does say it is from Windows, even though i installed the Warthog drivers. All the other buttons and axis works fine. My latest project, the Multi Function Button Box can be found at Kickstarter.
Ghanja Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Yes, when you move your throttle stick the little cross (where it says X-axeln / Y-axeln) should be moving around. Button 22 might be one of the switches on the throttle (check the attached image) Perhaps you should try to uninstall the drivers once and reinstall them again. Also make sure, that you have the latest firmware installed (which I am sure you have). I don't know how my Warthog is "listed" in Windows - I can check later when I get home. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] .:: My System ::. .:: My Paintings ::.
JackFlash Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Ah, the flaps. Forgot about them. I have both the latest firmware and drivers. So it's probably broken or what? How does TM look at this. I bought it second hand i don't have a receipt. My latest project, the Multi Function Button Box can be found at Kickstarter.
