Mike Busutil Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 (edited) Can we get startup exhaust flames for the P-51? Like the Mi-8 has for the APU startup? Merlin-27 Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Hopefully, that will be included with the new improved start-up effects that will accompany EDGE along with the smoke, oil etc [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] [Dogs of War] WWII COMBAT SERVER | P-51D - FW190-D9 - Me109-K4 Visit Our Website & Forum to Get More Info & Team Speak Access

Swoop73 Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Looks neat but shouldn't be a regular occurrence. Those are stack fires and just mean it was a bit over-primed. I wonder if some effects could be randomized? I personally would love to see compression streamers off the wing tips once in a while. :-)

I have only seen a P-51 start twice (in bright sunlight) but I certainly did not see flames like that. sobek Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 I wonder if some effects could be randomized? Knowing Yo-Yo a bit, i'd say the chances of him going for randomization are nil. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
ED Team NineLine Posted February 10, 2014 ED Team Posted February 10, 2014 For what its worth this has been reported for some time, that said, I think alot of effects addition and improvements are waiting on EDGE... I have been a big proponent of smoke from start-up :) Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**

I would hope the visual effects would match the condition. Also, I have seen the wingtip vortices effect on the DCS P-51D on several occasions. HotTom Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Exceptional engineering...and a large hammer to make it fit!
Swoop73 Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 I guess I just thought "randomizing" would be the simpler approach to making sure the same thing didn't happen over and over. Absolutely agree tying an event to conditions is best....Just figured harder to do. I wouldn't care, if DCS Mustang wasn't so darn good. It begs for adding little details that will push it over the top.
Mike Busutil Posted February 12, 2014 Author Posted February 12, 2014 I would like to be able to purposely over prime the engine and see the exhaust flames as a results. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Checkout my user files here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/filter/user-is-Mike Busutil/apply/

SO I dont think its a matter of how hard it is, its just being able to do the effects how they want, which may be something they are holding off till EDGE, who knows... Mike Busutil Posted February 12, 2014 Author Posted February 12, 2014 If the flames are caused by over priming, wouldn't this also be the case if we were in flight and turned on the primer switch? HotTom Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 (edited) It should be. Watch that video I linked above . He's clearly over-priming after not being able to start and getting flames (@30 sec - 1 minute). I would tie the flames to over-priming. Having them just be random would be pretty bogus IMO. sobek Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 If the flames are caused by over priming, wouldn't this also be the case if we were in flight and turned on the primer switch? Unlikely. The flames are caused by unburnt fuel air mixture getting into the exhaust and being set ablaze afterwards once the cylinder fires. If the engine is running, no unburnt fuel will make it to the exhaust, the primer will just cause the mixture to be a tiny bit richer. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Echo38 Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 I'm glad to see people pointing out that you normally won't see flames on startup! I recall pointing this out back when CloD was in early development, and people pretty much shouted me down with videos of flames pouring out of the cowling. Yes, it happens sometimes, but not every damn time you start up the bird.
Mike Busutil Posted February 14, 2014 Author Posted February 14, 2014 Nobody said it needed to be there every startup. Just have the capability for it... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Checkout my user files here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/filter/user-is-Mike Busutil/apply/
hitman Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Yeah, god forbid you get a little backfiring from a carbureted engine.
hitman Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Can we get startup exhaust flames for the P-51? Like the Mi-8 has for the APU startup? gotta love how all them people are standing in line with the prop, right?
sobek Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Yeah, god forbid you get a little backfiring from a carbureted engine. Backfiring isn't exactly the same as an exhaust stack fire. Not visually, at least. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!

Grim_Smiles Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 and as effects go, there are a few engine conditions I would like to see more visual effects for :) Same here, especially an oil leak similar to this video. My understanding is the condition is simulated recently, just no visual effect for it yet.
