First of all :

And more importantly, i've almost NEVER heard a CAS flyer complain after he got shot down by a jet.

Exactly. Again, as a CAS pilot it's part of the fun: to *avoid* being shot down. Our job is to bust ground units and stay in the air as long as possible, A2A job is to prevent that. For all the time I got nailed by a fast mover, there were also many times when I saw one passing by right under my nose, unable to see me crawling on the ground. In those moments, I feel I'm playing the game really well. I even managed to lock a su33 and shoot a pair of Vikhrs at it, once. They failed, but still.

Unless it's with cool people I generally don't like too much pure A2G missions. If I want that, I'm back in the single player campaign, where I have time to experiment, try stuff and mess around.

BUT, again, being shot down right on the runway because your side does not have A2A and the opposite side has so many they get bored and don't even wait for you to actually be in the air does not qualify as fun, after the third attempt at taking off. So instead of moaning and complaining, I would just move away, no big deal. Since I'm still learning the KA, and only very recently began the A10, I have not learnt anything about A2A aircrafts so I cannot do anything else right now. And quite frankly, the KA manuals coupled with Bigfoot tutorials, as well as the A10c ones make the FC learning curve look like a real mess of LOY and DIY. This could be fun, but like many others here I have a job, so one thing at a time.

I fully support the attack of ground attack aircraft. It gives defending fighters something to do other than air quake.

And I'm flying an A-10/Su-25, there had better be fighters all over me.

Who cares for balance, it makes the experience different everytime, sometimes you'll need to work hard just to kill one tank other days you're free to sit and kill without worry. Fighters are there to stop it happening that is their job, if your opponents side get air superiority with more numbers then deal with it this is a real scenario and adapting is part of the fun, otherwise your best selecting an A2G only server and ask yourself why you bothered going in a mixed server in the first place, because it certainly has nothing to do with the thrill of avoiding enemy fighters.

If your side is losing then enjoy the experience of fighting against all odds without the reality of losing your home. smile.gif

Well said. I think there is a bit too much focus on balance. Maybe if there was some kind of contest between teams make a balanced mission, but outside of that I don't think it's necessary. I kind of prefer being on the outnumbered side, I don't have to worry about finding things to shoot.

:D War is fun, i'd agree to being escorted back home then stick an IR up his chuffer, take any opportunity to bag a fighter that's the way of the striker.

Well as soon as I drop behind him he won't stand a chance, getting there can be challenging against a smart mud mover though. But I wouldn't ever do this if I knew he has friends :D

Different experiences for people. Not even a week ago I got called a coward because I took down a Su-25 with my F-15.

Although I fly a fighter a lot and I shoot down mud movers every now and again, it is not a real challenge. You fly in, shoot your missile, get the kill with a bit of luck, watch him crash, rinse repeat. If it is a part of the mission I don't mind. But if I am in a server and I encounter the same poor bastard a few times in a row without any opposition, I kinda get bored and just fly next to em.

He has to fly all the way over to his target area just to get killed by a lone fighter without any support. It's no fun for him as he gets splashed whenever he gets close, and it is no fun for me because splashing the same guy is no real fun.

But don't call me a coward because then I'm coming for ya! XD

I too stumbled upon a wounded SU25T while trying to get back to base today.

I hailed him in chat . I said "Su25T, prepare to get shot at, defend yourself!"

Then i waited 5 seconds, AND SHOT HIM

I couldn't resist , i felt like a piece of crap afterwords but he was cool about it.

Karma instantly cause i did not get rewarded for the kill .

  • 2 weeks later...

Its so simple people. There has been a debate about this before and it comes down to this: if you fly on a PvP server in any air craft you have became a LEGIT TARGET.

most of you have seen me in my pretty mig (yes im a migoholic) and a good few times i got nailed by a hog/frog and once even by a KA simply becouse i got gready and "im gonna go guns guns guns on him".

now as Frostie said fighters only on one side and muders on the other... well... those are newbies and/or frag warriors with a smal p.

The whole thing comes down to mission builders and the stability of missions. Slowly they improve....

So by not shooting down opfore air asset is an automatic fail as a fighter pilot. Thats your job and your only job.

There is a gentelmans option.... intercept... fly to his 9 and send a ....pilot dropp wepons and rtb. You have 20sec to comply. And to pressure him/her a warning shot with guns. If no complyance take precedant take one engine out.

If there is no fighter cover for the mud movers in a *low* populated server, then getting in an opposing fighter just to shoot them down is totally out of order in my book.

Pop pop pop, watchin' A-tens drop.

I found back in the fc2 days. We would battle for control of the skies for hours. When one side or the other gaining full control, the victory march was to fly out and destroy the enemy strikers. It was what you were flying A2A to prevent.

As a strike aircraft, I don't mind being shot down. It happens when someone gets past the fighters. I honestly don't even mind when people join fighters just to chase me out of an AO. Empty server or not. I know when they join what they want to do to me. I can play that game. The only fighter pilot that annoys me is the pilot who doesn't defend his strike aircraft. No communication. Just flys, shoots and RTB. It's just a waste of a slot.

Im getting tired of askin for an escort .

A few days ago , our side had a 3 to 1 advantage in fighter numbers . I asked for an escort for a SEAD attack . Nobody was interested . Then I get shot down by an enemy fighter near the target .

Im not complaining about getting shot down . But many fighter jocks don't bother or want to help in a mere escort role , how do you get around this issue ?

In the <51>Server our missions and brief are tailored to tie up fighter and strikers in packages together. Different packages have different objectives and waypoints. This is done to try and encourage team work and give people the incentive to join TS and work together to achieve each individual objective.

We are trying to make our missions as dynamic as possible with rewards for achieving objectives. The missions are complex and require good teamwork to achieve the objectives so in turn we try to make briefing and messages as clear as possible. The ultimate goal is to get all players co-operating in groups as well as having a fully dynamic mission, eg. the front line in the morning would look totally different in the evening with multiple outcomes.

Just the other week we had CA JTACs directing Su-25, A-10s and fighters performing cover, all on teamspeak together. Unfortunately these instances are few and far between but hopefully with the right kind of prodding things can hopefully improve.

Yep, you need to have someone willing to help first. But at the same time, you need to plan and practice with that person or persons, because they don't really know what to do either.

And you probably don't know what they can do for you, or how to help them, which is equally important. They can only cover the airspace for a limited amount of time during which you need to get in, launch your missiles, and then get out.

Most people also ask for 'escort' too late (ie. when they are in danger from enemy fighters) and at the same time they keep flying right into the fighters or continue to loiter in the target area to shack more ground units.
