javelina1 Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 I throw this out here, merely for discussion. Let me set this up. I currently have an i5-4670K (O/C to 4.4ghz), 16GB RAM, an SSD where DCSW and the O/S are loaded, and using a ATI/AMD HD7870 GPU, (with DLL injection for the 13.9 drivers, plus plenty of tweaks to try and enhance the AMD performance). Now, with that foundation, and given I have limited budget. Would you prefer purchasing a brand new Thrustmaster Warthog? or an nVIdia GFX 770? If I knew when EDGE was going to come about, it'd be an easy pick. Go with the Warthog. I'd like to have that HOTAS. (I'm currently using an X52 with magnet and tension mod's, but would really prefer a better HOTAS). So like many, I face that budget constraint. You only have enough funding for one item this year.... which one? :) TIA, -Jav MSI MAG Z790 Carbon, i9-13900k, NH-D15 cooler, 64 GB CL40 6000mhz RAM, MSI RTX4090, Yamaha 5.1 A/V Receiver, 4x 2TB Samsung 980 Pro NVMe, 1x 2TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD, Win 11 Pro, TM Warthog, Virpil WarBRD, MFG Crosswinds, 43" Samsung 4K TV, 21.5 Acer VT touchscreen, TrackIR, Varjo Aero, Wheel Stand Pro Super Warthog, Phanteks Enthoo Pro2 Full Tower Case, Seasonic GX-1200 ATX3 PSU, PointCTRL, Buttkicker 2, K-51 Helicopter Collective Control

You have a decent controller setup there so I would go with the Video card first... Then next year the Warthog.. "Pride is a poor substitute for intelligence." RAMBO
cichlidfan Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Assuming I had this dilemma, I would get the Warthog since DCS is not the only thing I fly and (assuming facts not known to me since I am long time Nvidia user) AMD works fine with the other sims. I would also be betting on EDGE being out before the end of the year (your budget period). Not guaranteed, but it seems like a reasonable gamble. I've gone with worse odds on $500. ;) Of course, the bigger gamble might be whether EDGE makes a difference for AMD, or not. Admittedly, it seems likely but... cichlidfan Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 (edited) One other thing... The Nvidia card purchase will get you more bang for your buck next year but the Warthog will be the same item for roughly the same price as it is now. EDIT: The above can also be used to convince your 'financial adviser' that the decision is economically sound. metalnwood Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 I would get the hog, it will make the gaming experience much better flying the A10 than the graphics upgrade. When you then have the $$ for a new gpu you will then be able to get a much better card for the $$ than you can right now.

Rogue Trooper Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 A tough Choice to make. If the X52 works well and if edge is delayed until the end of the year then I think I would go for the Nvidia card as this would improve gameplay now and will be relevant for EDGE.... Whenever it is released. Once the Warthog Hotas is bought it's a done deal! You will not be looking for another Hotas for a long long time and you will not regret your decision.... especially if you buy an extension for the stick. rajdary Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 The TM Warthog just makes an inmense difference, but basically in DSCW, because the remapping of buttons for FSX or others is not so "fit for the occasion" but good enough.
