    • No, I love the myriad of lame trainers and far flung planes with no historical opposition.

There also needs to be a S3 Viking, because one of my squad mates flew one, an A6 Intruder and A7 Corsair.

I'd like to see that, I have Henry Hoover standing by to record the sounds.. South Korea may be giving them a new lease of life soon also which would be nice to see.

S3 Viking? Would there be a big difference between flying it in DCS and in Flight Simulator (at least for the time being)? ;)

i386DX40@42 MHz w/i387 CP, 4 MB RAM (8*512 kB), Trident 8900C 1 MB w/16-bit RAMDAC ISA, Quantum 340 MB UDMA33, SB 16, DOS 6.22 w/QEMM + Win3.11CE, Quickshot 1btn 2axis, Numpad as hat. 2 FPH on a good day, 1 FPH avg.

DISCLAIMER: My posts are still absolutely useless. Just finding excuses not to learn the F-14 (HB's Swansong?).

I know this thread is old but,

People want the MiG-21's rival?

I think they're up for a disappointment, unless they mean a F-4 version that never fought against the MiG-21, because I'm pretty sure the MiG-21bis from the 80's (Which I think is the one simulated) will outclass an F-4 from the 60's in every flight characteristics..

I think the F-14A is a better competitor. We should all know in this forum that we never have to use the radar on the Mig, the R-13M1 has almost the same range and efficiency as the R-3R, and the R-60M wrecks everything, so a F-14A, unable to track a low flying MiG-21bis, with AIM-9Ls, versus a MiG-21bis aided by an EWR, is a more fair fight in my opinion, which is why I think Leatherneck Simulations did a good choice by developing the F-14 instead.

While I think you're right in one sense- that most people when they think MiG21 v F4 it's with the Vietnam War in mind- I would argue that the -21bis, being that she entered service in 1972/3 is a natural contemporary enemy of the F-4E up until the late 70s when the Eagle et al where fully in service.

I say this with a hypothetical Euro war in mind but you could also extend it out to the various Israel/Arab states conflicts from the mid-70s through to maybe the early 90s I'd say.

All that said calling something a "rival" as if it was the only one is a bit of a simplification. After all, the MiG21bis was mostly used for point interceptions, specifically bombers as I understood it, the F4E for ground attack and Weasel, for the most part.

If you wanted an actual contemporary for the MiG-21bis, the F-5E would be it and not the F-4 of any stripe.

Go on explain it. By contemporary do you actually mean "of similar performance"? Because those are two different things.

Similar in role. Both are light fighters built with similar philosophies in mind.

Yeah, but contemperory means built/produced/living around the same time.

So both F-4 and F-5 are contemperories.

The F-5 is a more accurate contemporary, I'd agree. Honestly though it's proper opposite number is the Mirage III.

Or Draken, as well.

This should had been a teaser trailer for DCS......

Thanks for that Tom! All this time I've been ok with not having an F-4 in this game to fly. Now I want an F-4 here, almost to the exclusion of some other modules! Thanks for that! Killer video!

I know right O_o I felt the exact same thing, then i saw that video...

And have had a serious draw to buy back in to prepar3d v3 so i could fly the lead sled...

but it just desserves to stretch its legs in DCS.

I'm kinda done with old planes that cannot compete with the modern ones.

Hah - I'm just the opposite - in MSFS I spend all my time in the 737-200, 727-200, and the MD-80... The Phantom would be high on my list and a good adversary for the Mig-21...

Scott
