I just noticed that the throttle does not have a pitch control lever any more, is it just not modelled?

The Fw 190's engine was controlled by a Kommandogerat system that automatically controlled the RPM, fuel mixture, ignition timing, supercharger switchover, and boost pressure, all on one handle.

So no separate levers for controlling prop pitch, fuel mixture, supercharger stage, etc.

Just like in a jet... Kurt Tank Technology :)\

Err, sorry but you are wrong.

Just like in the 109 the pilot could override the system.

EDIT:

My bad you are correct, sorry!

Im very sure it should be GRÖßER..Means>Bigger or more.

I want to add, the Dora 9 had a JUMO 213A engine.

So, no Kommandogerät (only BMW801 engines)!

JUMO engines used something similar: "Motorbediengetriebe - MBG".

It's one lever operation too, and the pilot could disable the automatic propeller pitch control at any time. (btw: it was forbidden to deactivate using MW50!)

ahh... so the Dora used the Motorbediengetriebe - MBG which essentially does the same or similar to the Kommandogerat... you learn something new everyday...

Wags has answered the question :)

Page 25 on the WIP FW 190 Manual.

It looks like they are in the process of remodelling the throttle to add the rotation of the throttle that controls the EZ42 distance. The cockpit is 50% of the reason I am head over heels for this aircraft all modern jets follow the setup :).

I know almost nothing about the FW-190, but I still am really interested by it. How complex is it (regarding engine management, gunnery and handling) when compared with the P-51D?

I think the Germans worked harder to make a more efficient aircraft as far as reducing pilot workload, I find it easier to fly, but easier in the sense that its still a high performance beast from the 40's :)

The MW50 system should be fun to manage and utilize properly... gunnery... well I am terrible all around so its a challenge no matter where I go :)

I think it will have its own set of quirks like any aircraft.

I'm not an expert but I think the FW-190 was quite "automatic" for its time. Rather than screwing around with a bunch of seperate buttons and knobs to control your propeller pitch, throttle, boost levels, mixture, and such (like you would on American aircraft) you have the throttle to control all of that for you. So I guess it's like operating a jet in that the logic is "push throttle to go faster." If you're lacking for axis on your control setup, might be better to go with the FW-190 than, say, the P-47D which has you managing tons of seperate parts that control your engine and propeller.

Just 1 question...

Is this Fw-190 project directly tied to the DCS 1944 project, or an independent add-on?

It's an independent addon, just like the P-51D.

Apparently the D-9 doesnt have manual pitch control, what I can find seems to verify that, if anyone has proof otherwise, please feel free to send it to me. Personally I am ok with that, being lazy and all :)

Although that line has blurred now ;)

I think thats great. Its better to have a unified package...although a boxed product for WWII enthusiasts definitely is financially more sound. So I think we may yet see both. Hopefully ED should first of all iron out the map of products in work and place a hard limit. Keeping the scope limited to EDGE, flanker AFM, Fw 190 and FA18C. Just work on those, get it done and then move on to the rest. Rather than work on everything in a shotgun manner. But I am sure they know what they are doing.

Well the plan all along has been for a separate WWII install or the option to install the components into DCS World, I think this is still the plan.

In theory that should be simple ("Simple " as in "Soon " ;o)

Just a startup parameter for DCS.exe that starts DCSW with a different GUI theme and switches to a different Saved Games subfolder. Perhaps also applying some sort of filter to only show appropriate theatres/maps and units in the mission editor (which we could ... well, certainly will ... mod out of the installation - so we can use all units everywhere :D)

Yes, I hope it lays the ground work for launch of other eras :)
