Same result, the MiG is far superior in the vertical, but luckily the AI does not make very good use of it. I had couple of dogfights (editing the P-51 vs D-9 instant action duel mission) and didn't have much problem with the AI. I suppose it will be far more challenging against a good human pilot :joystick:

I tried both fixed gunsight as well as radar range helper, I find the latter less useful in a fast deflection shots in rolling scissors as the piper is floating all over the place. It's amazing though in other situations and long range shooting... (I set it here to 40ft, should be a bit less I know). I can see though why Gabreski used a piece of chewing gum rather than computing gunsight. But it's a great piece of kit once you get used to it.

well like yo-yo saying how it flies to perfection well for the love of everything holy make it fly without perfection once half of its plane is missing (i'm talking about the dora and the mig-15) unless they have fixed the dora so that it doesn't fly 100pct after having half the plane missing and then it knicks you with 1 round and your done for.

Its a perfect storm.... the AI is perfect (and a WIP) and we as pilots arent perfect... If BST strives to release the closest to real simulation of a F-86, then is it realistic to expect everyone to be a MiG eating machine? Give the sim time to progress, as well as your skills with the Sabre... how boring would it be to be able to dominate the MiG right from the start? Those MiG kills will be sweeter when earned.

I always wondered why ED haven't programmed a "human" side to the AI. In BoB II the AI is superb, fresh pilots panic and make mistakes/erratic manoeuvres while the aces drop down from the sun and pick you off before you can say "bugger".

I'm no programmer, and I know how complex modern AI can be. How much work would it take for an AI overhaul? You know, so they don't fly into the sea while dodging missiles etc?

I think people are more tired of ED's complete lack of making the AI behave like humans instead of cyborgs who don't know the meaning of the word "mistake" than they are at the WIP MiG-15.

You dont think that could have something to do with how DCS currently is built, how it needs to be optimized so that more complexity can be added to these things (taking some of the stress of your processor to free it up for different things? ie EDGE)... or do you think ED just doesnt see an issue with AI? Or maybe they just dont care.. I am only going by your phrasing of your statement...

People reference other games, but most of those referenced dont have half of what DCS does going on under the hood.

This isn't a new issue. It's been this way from day one, there's no excuse for it. Just like there's no excuse for how e.g. Doppler radars aren't repaired, how the KA-50's HUD isn't repaired, how planes just a few thousand feet away are invisible, how BMP-2s are more deadly to planes than Shilkas and Tunguskas, how infantry survives missiles and cannon shells just feet away because there's no fragmentation, etc.

Pretty much any other modern flight sim lacks these issues, so why should we treat DCS differently, acting like it's something special that for a plethora of reasons doesn't need to repair broken features?

So you just ignore what I say and rant on... fair enough.

Who said they dont need fixed?? Most of the issues you have listed are reported, but as you ignored what I said, its kinda pointless to try and reason with you...

Excellent shooting! I'm going to watch this video over and over again and adjust my mission to start at low altitude so I don't have to waste time getting to the fight. 2.5 mins per kill is a world record.

Just one thing, be careful of your G's pulled. I think you reached 7.5 G at least in the second fight. After this game hits full release, that may warp your aircraft structure.

I flew Mig Sweep a few (dozen) times yesterday. On one mission he turned left and then right and up then he turned towards me. I expected a collisions and closed my eyes but instinctively pulled the trigger. A mere two meters in front of me he burst into flames. It was my best kill yet.

LOVING IT!

I did mig sweep yesterday and was on the six of a mig, had a perfect shot and just as I was about to fire one of my sabre wingman slammed into me. oh well :)

Do enlighten me as to what it is that has taken precedence over all of these things for years.

If e.g. EDGE prevents them from fixing problems that have been reported for ages, they really need to reconsider their priorities. And as I said, no other modern flight sim has let things slip like this. DCS is the sole flight sim I can think of that lets bugs, bad designs, etc. remain unfixed for years and accumulate in quantity with updates without doing anything about it. The KA-50 is probably the worst example. With HUD and Doppler radar not being repaired, and now certain weapons being broken, it's not far from being a module that is just for all intents and purposes broken. For a flight sim with as few modules as DCS, even just one module being this broken is a big issue. What's the special thing about DCS that means they don't have to fix the things that everyone else does in a matter of weeks mostly?

Well first, the topic was AI/MiG 15, so let me first enlighten you to that...

Second, my reference to EDGE and optimizing and improving the core game was in reference to AI, and adding more complex AI to an already complex simulation... yes more complex than probably any other modern sim out there currently... if you only have so much processor real estate you need to free it up some how right?

As for other bugs, they are reported. ED has priorities... they might not meet your priorities, so not much they can do there.

Are you enlightened yet? No? Should they build a shiny house on a broken foundation, or should the fix the foundation first?

Anyways, lets focus on the topic... AI/MiG 15. if you have other bugs you are concerned about I suggest you search the forums to make sure they are properly reported or report them yourself.

Nailed my first Mig-15! The trick for now seems to be dragging it into a high g turn fight at low altitude. If you let it climb away there is no chance of catching it.

EDIT: Oh yeah... It was on average, though :music_whistling:

It seems to have a force filed around it. I've taken it on in the F-15C and it just eats AIM-7, AIM 120, and AIM-9s. At close range I've had to ripple fire all of the above to get a kill. The first hit just has no effect at all. Also its missal detection seems to border on precognition. As soon as the AIM 120 is off the rail the mig is turning to counter.

ok so I did mig sweep again, this time I put the GAR-8 on, shot first missle after tone but I was a little low, didnt see where the missle went, turned on the mig and fired again, nailed him down he went, woohoo. now for the funny part, I looked through the after action report and scrolled through the list of who did what and my first missle said it killed a house, hope nobody was home.

Yeah, Damage model is way way WIP... as for the precognition... did you save the track by chance? Otherwise I can try and recreate.
