F-86F Sabre Skins - Combined Threads

434 RCAF and the two OTU trainer skins posted above now available for DL. :)

Next up, for the Hawk One fans, another past livery of '314, from the Sabre Transition Unit, Chatham. After the Sabre OTU shut down in 1961 the STU opened, using the Sabre as a tactical lead-in aircraft for those going on to fly the new CF-104 Starfighter. Pilots gained experience with skills like gunnery, toss bombing, and (practice) tactical nuke delivery before checking out on the 104 at Cold Lake, Alberta. The Sabre soldiered on in the training role for the RCAF until the end of the 1960s.

'314 sometime after Feb. 1965, as noted by the 'new' flag...

A question chaps:

Can anyone advise me as to how to get the .lua to recognise the front gear repaint I have done please? The .dds is called "f-86f_gear"

Its a very simple one. I have just painted over the red dot.

nosewheel_zps0b5822b8.jpg

I have saved it as a jpeg like the main skin and droptanks and added the entry:

{"F-86_GEAR", 0,"f-86f_gear", false},

but it will not show. It shows in the model viewer as I replaced the default .dds with mine in the temporary textures folder (backed up the original into another folder). But jpeg or .dds in my own skin folder its a no show.

Any help would be appreciated.

Could please anyone help me?

I don't get any skin installed. I tried it everywhere. The last time I read I have to put it into CoreMods\aircraft\F-86\Liveries\ and then create an folder called F-86F, but no success.

Thanks, Andi

^^^ Create a folder named F-86F Sabre in this location: DCS World\Bazar\Liveries

Put there all skins you want

Ah thanks, but now I've got this problem:

Try "F86_GEAR" instead of F-86 in the first half of the statement... no hyphen.

Should have "Little Rita" uploaded tomorrow.

Eliminated the red dot on the nose wheel, painted the pilots helmet white so it appears a little more like a Korean war era Sabre pilots even if its isn't the right type, and tried out my latest attempt at a NMF. The SPEC layer is more reflective than I'd like but if its lowered Nmf becomes grey paint in appearance so its a compromise.

I have also corrected several small but glaring paint errors in my previous efforts. So look out for new updates to my previous releases. (These will be Version 1.5 and hopefull the final updates on them as its getting a little tedious!!!!)

Ok, this will probably come back to bite me in the @$$ after the next update, but here's some new cockpit textures, mimicking how most Canadair Sabres were finished. Note - textures are based on period photos, but keep in mind no military aircraft type ever stays "standard" for long. Details could differ from aircraft to aircraft, and over time as equipment is changed/upgraded.

Changed the colour of some guarded push buttons, landing gear lever (supposed to be transparent yellow plastic with red unsafe light inside)

dcs2014-09-2400-05-32-94_zps0415f2cf.jpg

RCAF Ejection instrs. placard, radio call number matches skin, in this case, 23220 of No. 439 "Sabre-Toothed Tiger" Sqdn.

Canopy De-clutch Handle

Might add some other details like circuit breaker map placards on the inside of the canopy frame.

New RCAF cockpit textures will be included in my RCAF Sabre skins.

Jocko,

A great big thanks for your RCAF 1-wing, 2-wing and 3-wing skins. I was there during those years and it is great to fly with those markings.

I just have a glitch to resolve for 410 and 411 in that the USAF markings come through the RCAF paint job.

I think there is a line as I understand it in the .lua file I need to add to resolve this.

Again, a super big thanks, brings back lots of memories watching the real birds flying around.

Cheers,

Hi Catseye,

Yep, the latest update added a US markings decals layer that defaults to "on".

There's an easy fix until I update the older skins:

Download any or all of my latest 3 skins - OTU 213, OTU 362, and/or 434 RCAF.

Unzip any of them and find the file called 'empty'. Copy/paste it into each of the livery folders that have the decal issue.

Next, open any of the description.lua files from the latest 3 skins. Find and copy this line:

{"F86_MAIN", 3,"empty", false},

Paste it into the description for each older skin.

If anyone has downloaded my RCAF Skins V3 I have removed it from the site pending correction to two of the cam skins, I screwed up the tail colours.

V4 should be available drekly, as we say here in sunny Devon.

It only affects the skins for 422 and 444 Sqns, the others are all okay.

Humble apologies, I will take myself off into the back yard and beat myself with a soggy copy of 'Gaming for Idiots' immediately.

Jocko,

Works like a charm!

A great big thanks!

I was almost there adding the line to the .lua but I was not aware of moving over the empty file. doh!

OK, Grostenquin here we come.

Cheers,
