Same here.

Why the surface color, rivets, panel lines is all in one layer???? :helpsmilie:

Can it be separated?

I think it is built based on the factory test dds files. So they can hardly be separated.

Yeah Happy skinning without the template. Of course it is not really all that hard to build a template yourself. It is just a LOT of work. But I suspect a layered template is lying around somewhere on one of the HD's from the Leatherneck team. And If they should release it, the brave community member would've done everything for nothing.

Happy Flying! :pilotfly:

I just "colorize" the base layer and use transparency when painting. OR, you can make a layer to paint on and adjust the transparency of the layer. I use both methods depending on the look I am going for. There is no "official" template pack. I just made this from the plain default skin. I have recently been working on the panel lines layer. Bare with me. I honestly thought LN would have given us a template by now. I hope they arent like everyone else. What I mean is, I hope the dont leave this plane in beta for 2 years like the Mi8 or something. They told me in an email that they would be releasing a texture pack and template pack right after 1.2.12 update. HAHA! I think they may have told a lie. I thought they were great, and they could still be, but I'm beginning to see them do more and more like the other developers, releasing something incomplete and promising certain things that dont happen because they are too busy with other aircraft that will more than likey end up the same way. I have high hopes for LN but who know these days. The quality of the MiG21 is painfully amazing, but it's still not finished and I feel like known issues are falling through the cracks. I sure hope I'm wrong.

The link is back up on my original post if you guys want this template to use until theirs is released. I have made all of my skins with it and I find it VERY easy to use. I made it for myself but I like to share because if no one shared, I would have never learned to make skins in the first place.

Best Regards Everyone!!!

I remember those days Devs didn't release templates and people made them on their own. I was one of those people during IL-2's hype.

You can't expect devs to release a template every time a product is release.

Any ways, I'm a quadriplegic and finishing the final base texture as fast as I can. The last bit of rivets are being applied around access panels, and then I can finally adjust textures to the new pylons' shape.

Be patient, it is coming.

In the mean time, I think you should continue with what you are doing, because people will appreciate it a little more. I think you would too; what's the fun and satisfaction of just adding colors and decals and saying, "look what I made?"

Checked out your link... BEAUTIFUL STANG!!! You do great work. I agree with you actually. I feel better about my skins because I made the template. Its funny, I don't feel that way about some of the others Ive done with ED templates. Not rushing you at all. Just going off of what I was told and then had no follow up info. Things happen, so no biggie. Thanks for your speedy reply btw.

How do dev's make multiple liveries if not with a template? Do they paint every nut/bolt every time?

How do dev's make multiple liveries if not with a template? Do they paint every nut/bolt every time?

We have multiple-stage textures at this point.

To further clarify; there are currently three "stages" in the external PSD's.

The main reason for this is that it allowed me and Mike to work in parallel on the external textures, as well as the fact that Photoshop bogs down with a few hundred layers at 4K, even on a monster machine.

Together, for the whole aircraft, I'd estimate these masters weigh about 5GB uncompressed. (that is, ignoring the fact that PSDs are inherently compressed).

We actually use blending modes on-top of a white base for our liveries in the last stage.

Only a few last layers are on top of the livery colour. This is the "stage" that we will compile as the paintkit, and include instructions on how to blend your colors.

Our next aircraft will have easier to compile PSDs though and should be quicker on the release. :)

I have made a fully Layered Template including Lines & Rivets,Mechanical and some Paint Layers ALL with

transparent Alpha Channel so adding Paint,Decals etc is very easy.

Feel free to use as you wish, however any aknowledgment would be very much appreciated.

Have Fun

Regards

Keith.
