By the nature of the area the video was taken in it could also possibly be a barrel of a zu-23/ ztpu that's been modified as a rifle of sorts. Similiar footage of modified snipers made of those weapon's barrels have appeared from Syria before.

So not contemporary after all. Thanks guys!

Edit:

BTW, are there any contemporary anti-armor rifles apart from 20mm anti-materiel rifles with special AP ammo? I'm looking for a Christmas present ;)

More than you can shake a cat at :D

If Santa gave me a freebie then I'd definitely opt for the Anzio Ironworks Corporation AIC Mag-Fed 20mm:

A steal at $12 000 USD

Not related but not worth starting a new thread about

Looks like an M1 Garand, anyone seen this happen before? Looks like it jams at 14.5 seconds, she bolts another round into the chamber and fires

I would not like to see the aftermath if it happened to the OP rifle

Niceee!

I'd like to see my country putting more effort into acquiring more of hardware that really matters in a defensive war. We don't exactly have the money to shove into a furnace.

I've seen that happen on the range before, she had a squib load and didn't realize it. If you hear a pop but no recoil, the weapon fails to cycle (in a semi/full auto) but there is a spent casing, then you need to do a barrel check. That's why she has to cycle it by hand, it didn't jam it was that a bullet lodged in the barrel and no gas made it back to re-cock the gun. I saw a guy make that mistake with a stamped metal WASR, the receiver looked a bit like an inflated balloon afterwards.

Cutout of a rather nasty squib example. I'm going to guess this was a competition speed shooter and cycled too fast before he realized what was happening. Either that or he was a crayon eater.

10 years ago I've read a lenghty article on how Chechens used rifles like this against Russian vehicles. Some rifles they used were further modified. There's no chance I find the article.

Another case I recall, Polish resistance fighters took a captured high-caliber rifle (german, anti-tank?) to a local blacksmith to retrofit a missing mechanism. After they got it signing they used the rifle in their detachment to take out commanders of German detachments they've encountered. After some time the hit on morale has been reflected in official operational reports of German units operating in the area of the resistance detachment.

As far as serious anti-vehicle use goes, these things were already obsolete by early WWII, even the 20mm ones.

They could hurt soft vehicles, and may also damage lightly armored ones at some ranges, theoretically, but I wouldn't depend on any kind of rifle against IFV class of vehicles today.

There are contemporary rifles which are more or less the same thing as anti tank rifles of old, that class is now called anti-materiel rifles, intented more for damaging equipment, counter sniping, extreme range sniping or engaging infanty behind cover / inside buildings etc.

I think one of the modern models look quite similar to PTRD but don't remember it's name.

Wishlist: F-4E Block 53 +, MiG-27K, Su-17M3 or M4, AH-1F or W circa 80s or early 90s, J35 Draken, Kfir C7, Mirage III/V

Winging it here, but there's also the modern Russian KSVK.

If you want to talk to anyone about anything personal, send it to their PM box. Interpersonal drama and ad hominem rebuttal are things that do not belong on a thread viewed by the public.

One thing i have to point out... naming a thread.. "OK, so" is as useful as tits on a bull.

I don't agree. There's plenty of 50's era vehicles in use today and all it takes for the operator of anti-armor rifles is to integrate the latest AP ammunition. Should be far cheaper than bringing armor of the outdated vehicles to todays standards.

Yes and no. On the one hand, there remain plenty of targets vulnerable to high - caliber rifle for that are resistant to .30 caliber class weapons: such as up- armored utility vehicles and cargo trucks, most recon vehicles, and some APC (to include M113 and BTR).

On the other hand, AT rifles are heavy abd bulky; it's more practical to use a disposable AT rocket for the same job; half the size and a fifth the weight
