bkthunder Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 I may be alone in this, but I feel all the more happy to have bought the MiG-21 at full price. It's been on two ED sales so far, and it's only been discounted 10$. I can't help it but feel a bit raped when I pay 50 for a beta and after 2 weeks I see it on sale at 15...:music_whistling: Thank you LN for respecting your customers. Windows 10 - Intel i7 7700K 4.2 Ghz (no OC) - Asus Strix GTX 1080 8Gb - 16GB DDR4 (3000 MHz) - SSD 500GB + WD Black FZEX 1TB 6Gb/s

T_A Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 nothing to do with respect , the MIG is fresh and probably sales well , also its LN`s only product and they cant go and sale it for 70% ED has lots of modules, and most people when they see 70% will buy everything from the store , even if they don't plane to use it. Saruman Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 I would feel raped too, but later in the time I think that it will get discounted more and more, because to LN it means more customers
Kuky Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 I'll never feel bad to have suported the indiegogo, and have bought it at full price also... the module is well worth it. If they discount it later (which happens all the time) they get more people to buy it which wouldn't want to pay the full price. I still don't lose anything... I am thankful they made it in the first place. Mainstay Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Indeed this module deserves the full price
Marcus763 Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 I bought it at full price and am glad I did so too. I want company's like Leatherneck to make as much from these projects as possible so that they can continue to produce excellent work like the Mig-21. They are few and far between now, compared to flight sims in the 90's, and need all the support they can get to keep our hobby alive :-)
bkthunder Posted November 23, 2014 Author Posted November 23, 2014 Sure it will get discounted, but at least it hasn't been discounted too soon. To discount something just after you've released it at full price creates a negative spiral where ppl will always wait for the discounts and stop buying at full price. a little OT but since we're at it: 1. if you discount a beta up to 70%, how is the price gonna be when you release the full product?? (this gives a hint: beta = final release for *some* developers...) 2. DCS is pretty much an anomaly. Most game releases I've seen are like this: buy the beta and you get a discount (because you are providing a service of beta testing to the developer). When the final version is released, the price goes up. Then, after a few months, you get discounts. tob.s Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 the part that me angry about this is that u think the modules are well worth 50$ ( the quallity, all the time and effort it took the devs..) and then just weeks after release its like the devs say "no its only worth 15$, but thanks for ur 35$ extra" - it makes u feel fooled... i think a generall price drop for modules as they get older ( new 50$, then 40$ and 30$ for the old ones like ka50 and a10) would be more appropiate than those huge discounts. As for the mig21 - its the best module dcs ever had and totally worth its price, even as im more intrested in Air to Ground than fighting, i cant wait to see the mig15 as i know it will be awesome
Beagle One Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Software is liek wine. its get better when it grows older. It is purchased best at 50% discount when it is out of "beta". Im's done with buying anything that is labeld "beta" and I pursue this policy not only in regards to DCS. I want to spend the few hours a week I can spare for actually enjoying a final product not for testing half baked beta versions.
zaelu Posted November 23, 2014 Posted November 23, 2014 Sometimes we win money faster or in bigger quantity... not always because we worked harder or produced more. I guess is the same when we pay the money for stuff. Feeling bad because you bought something that got a discount is something to be removed from your life if you don't want it to eat your liver. Today you feel bad because X product got a discount... tomorrow it will be another or the realization you could have invested your time and money in that thing and not this thing, then you will be unhappy of the wife... kids... pension... then you die... It's not about the quantity of money... is the flow of them that matters. Like the life itself. Smile and have a glass of wine! I do. The F-86 from Belsimtek is one such module in beta I only bought because of a Steam sale and never plan to operate it again in DCS past the initial sale. That module was discounted in beta by 70% and retails for about $50 so I feel for anyone who bought it at regular price. Also makes one wonder how a beta can be reduced by so much.
lucien Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 I wouldn't mind if they gave it away for free. The money I paid I feel like they deserved, simple as that. I'd pay it 50 times again.
cquail Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 Who in their right mind would want to buy a product on sale when they can easily pay full price?
ZoomBoy27 Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 We are a niche with a complex product with a much smaller market size. I have no objections to keeping the price high. I still get to choose what to buy at whatever price I want See my blog-post for a run-down of my choices so far http://www.lockonfiles.com/blog/10/entry-164-dcs-sales/ The DCS product still has some distance to go - but it's great to have some choice. *Rage* Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 At whatever price its tremendous value. For modules that I have purchased I have no problem paying full price. If anything I think ED is frequently too generous. Or in trouble and not making enough money. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 64th "Scorpions" Aggressor Squadron Discord: 64th Aggressor Squadron TS: 195.201.110.22
Ralphk Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 sales are normal in commerce, think of ur local clothes store, they run 70% discounts at the end of each season... will u feel raped? look on the bright side... u got to use it and enjoy prior to those who waited... in the end 50$ is the cost of a dinner that is digested in a couple of hours... while u get that module for years of enjoyment.
outlawal2 Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 I will never understand threads like this.. A module is worth what it is worth.. Period. (If you don't think it is worth X amount of dollars then don't buy it..) If you DO think it is worth the money then buy it and be happy.. And if you truly are worried about a sales price simply wait for a sale. ED has LOTS of sales and anyone that has been around knows this.. The only customer that might not know this is the guy that just bought his or her first module. The rest of us know that ED has sales often.. Wait for the sale or don't, but why complain about it? You're not alone on this one mate. The MiG-21 is worth the full price of $49.99 let alone 10% off. It is by far and wide THE best module to date in DCS and I have no regrets paying the full price for it. Thanks LN for respecting your customers on this one, and not down pricing all your hard earned effort. It's all I fly now in DCS, my only gripe is the pause/stutter bug when joining a server in the MiG as it is for this reason it's not back on the Virtual Aerobatics server, which I mainly fly on, but I've faith in LN that they will nail this one down too in time. Eight Ball Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 It's not aimed at the OP but people spend several thousands euros in gigantic TV screen, every 1.5 year they buy a new phone that cost as much as a month of rent, they wear hundreds of euros worth of clothes, shoes or whatever and then they niptick for a few dozen euros... I don't get it. Find The Links To All My Mods And Liveries Here (in the gallery)
xaoslaad Posted November 26, 2014 Posted November 26, 2014 (edited) I bought a box of diapers at full price for my two year old the other day, then, they went on sale a couple days later... I feel so raped... :bash: Diapers are a little different. They're a consumable. One could argue that thinking ahead and knowing you're going to need another box fairly soon you might cash in on that deal and buy another box. You could certainly say diapers are expensive and I don't make a lot of money, so I can't afford to do that, and I couldn't argue. But many could probably swing it. There are also multiple manufacturers of diapers. The ones you buy meet your price/quality criteria the best, but if they were constantly doing something that annoyed you you could switch. On the other hand, once I buy a MiG-21Bis module I don't need another. In some rare circumstance some might buy it for a friend who might otherwise not even buy it for themselves if the prices is right. There is also only one MiG-21Bis module in a modern flight sim engine (are there others at all?) There are people among us (me included, guilty as charged) that can't wait to fly it and will pay a certain premium to get it day one. Knowing that the development company will (hopefully) eventually get enough money to recoup their costs and make a profit, I fully expect that they will go after people less interested in the MiG-21Bis. People who wouldn't pay 50, but would pay 40, people who wouldn't pay 40 but would pay 15, etc. If $50 vs $40 means weeks of getting to fly it that is worth it to some. If $50 vs $15 means months, again that is worth it to some. To others it means very little. To me $30 for a handful of days isn't much of a bargain. Lets put it this way, if you could have it a week early for $300 or wait for release for $50 would you buy it? Maybe you could say yes, but I think most would not. Same principal, smaller values of money and bigger values of time. When a company puts something on sale for 60% off, two weeks after it is released, before it's even out of beta, that is both unexpected, and very not worth it to most people. Now, ED and Belsimtek made good on that business faux pas and I certainly don't hold it against them because of that. Reproducing that same scenario seems inadvisable.
