How does that work? Ours don't get replenished until we use the last one.

No clue, I was always under the impression you got one a month back if you used any, but I will be honest, I never really have an issue with activations, so I never paid much attention... just they they are also back to 9 or whatever the most are...

 

Anyways, soon as I see an answer on if they will replenish I will post, or see if someone from ED can post about it.

 

Edit: Nevermind... I went and looked at my A-10, and it says 9 of 12 used... so I dont know what I am talking about, all I know is I never used them all up, and I have had the A-10 for a long time... if you deactivate you save an activation correct?

Just a thought on separate campaign versions with English voice acting:

 

If the issue is the voice acting (2x the work to do it in English), then the subtitles are completely understandable. However, if the issue is campaign maintenance (i.e. having two campaigns to maintain, separate triggers for separate files, etc.), then all you need to do is give the English voice files the same filenames as the original Russian files. Then (since the MIZ format is actually Zip) they could take the updated Miz files and just insert the English voice files using Windows Explorer. This way the only extra work is packing some files.

Maybe its something that could be modded, or updated later, possible, as long as the English files would smoothly merge in where the Russian ones are, length and time, etc....

Fantastic to see you make an AAR Beach. I hope you change ur mind and make more. It always is a great incentive to jump into the game and experience missions myself...although I tend to flame out...or die a lot faster. lol

I agree with the points u posted. I think most of it has to do with the DCS engine/architecture. It would require a lot more to do what u are suggesting. Although..some of it can be alleviated with pre-campaign vdeos...between mission videos etc. But that is also very time consuming. Perhaps for a higher price point, they can address those issues.

... I can tell that I needed more than 3 activations to get everything back and running again.

When you expend a default 3 activations you will get extra one every month. Thus quantity of activations infinitely.

Just one question before I buy, are the mission files openable/editable in mission editor?

You can edit anything except triggers.

The triggers are hardcoded.

 

But I don't recommend to edit something except the payloads because it is possible to destroy the general scenario.

I like the idea of the marketable campaign system, and I fully support it if the campaign lives up to the price tag. For that number of missions, I'd expect native language voice overs...

So the whole triggers section is disabled? Or I just cannot edit the hardcoded ones, but can insert new ones into the mission?

 

I'm asking as a precaution, because I had few issues with recent ED campaigns where the only way for me to progress and enjoy the campaign was to edit it. The issues varied from being opposed with an overwhelming force of enemies (because other AI flights were wiped out) to not being able to assing a CAP to attack an enemy heli flight that was decimating ground troops I was tasked to escort in A-10C, because the heli group was hidden in ME. I don't plan to edit anything until I really have to ;)

 

But I think that even without touching triggers I should be able to make the missions enjoyable, should any such issue appear. So I'm going to buy this, because from the trailer I get flashbacks from Revanche and Deployment, which were imho the best campaigns (and I never had issues in those :D ). :)

Just read the AAR, so I'm wondering if any new features are planned for the campaign/mission format? Like, new briefing and after action features, some way of saving the context between missions, etc? Stuff like that which would improve the immersion.

 

The thing is, with the current separate gui and sim engines, a third party campaign engine was possible. I've been toying a bit with that, but then ED announced that they will modify this and combine them together in the future. Thus we are completely stuck with what ED provides and it seems that these things are not the priority, but at the same time it feels like a must have to improve these payware third-party campaigns.

Yes, you're right, if it supports parameters like e.g. mission name like the sim exe currently does. The thought that they might keep those even after integration hasn't crossed my mind.

 

But, I'm all for the unified exe because these multiple desktop transitions while loading the missions are somewhat annoying.

 

Still, it would be nice to hear if any updates are planned for this topic already or not.

Awesome. I've got enough airplanes..I'll pay for any kind of campaign type DLC or even $1 a mission or whatever. I wish they'd do something similar for the Ka-50..

 

I wonder if they have a plan to keep all those triggers working as the Mission Editor evolves. That has always been a concern for mission makers..

Maybe they can introduce payware maps as well as campaigns.

Wow, a paiyment system for campaigns, I'm surprised!

 

In my opionion, that's the right way to spread DCS more and more.

Good map making takes hours so why shouldnt the creator be paid for it, if he wants to. If I understand it right, it is no must to sell campaigns it is still possible to provide them for free. The pay thing is just additional.

 

I'm looking forward for more!

Do so, I hope to become good enough some time to join up. But atm I am happy to have some offline fun and learn stuff better than online.

One thing I dearly hope for is that new aircraft modules will still include their own campaign as part of the aircraft purchase instead of charging us extra for a campaign. I'm not talking about extra DLC that you can buy but rather an initial campaign as part of the package.

I dont see that changing, I dont know of course, but it seems like a campaign would still be included with a module at release.

I'm just about to start my 3rd sortie. The campaign is very high quality and great fun.

The attention to detail is superb, from the AI scripting to the wind settings, everything seems just perfect to me.

 

As for the 3 activation limit, don't worry too much about that. I've been flying my Black Shark since 2009 and ED has reset my Black Shark activation for me with no fuss at all.

 

As for the price. I can't even imagine how many hours it takes to create a mission (like the awesome server missions out there), let alone a campaign.

 

My personal way of justifying cost for my entertainment is $1.00 an hour. Everything under the Eagle Dynamics flag more than meets that criteria for me. I'm sure this campaign will be a good 40+ hours of entertainment for me.

 

The one thing I hope to see in the future would be a multiplayer version of the campaigns. Just make the wingman a client?
