I've got a 256 SSD and a 1 TB HDD.

How much space on average does each plane module take over the DCS world base install?

Can I leverage the 1TB slow HDD to store large files yet get the speed from the SSD by installing DCS World there where the OS is?

256GB should easily fit quite a few games beside the OS.

In DCS ,modules don't take that much usually , but thats because the base install needs to include most of the files for all aircraft even if you don't fly them(otherwise you cant play in a server that has those aircraft in the mission)

lets say you need to reserve about 50-60GB at most

The size of the modules varies greatly. The A-10C is over 1GB while some of the others are well under 500MB. Here is an pic of my installation files for the latest version.

Going by the mods folder. It doesn't take that much space.. about 3.5 gigs give or take so far.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Dang, that's a lot of mods. :)

All modules on my install except the Mi-8 and it's 20Gb, ~1.5 of that is mods.

It's 39 with both the regular and Open Beta installs.

38.5gb? my assumption is you have ALOT of _backup folders in your directory.

Using JSGME with terrain mod zip files along with a large number of liveries could do that very easily.

My mods storage folder is 23.9GB and there are a number of mods missing from it.

EDIT: It is worth noting that using JSGME, in a standard manner, causes installed mods to exist twice inside the game folder.

Look for files called _backup.xxx and delete them.

I have a 120GB SSD with vista business service pack 2(a real hog), and all of the DCS modules, and I have 26.8 GB left. The SSD started with 111 GB that could be used.

I don't however have flaming cliffs, combined arms, or the hawk, though. I also have a 1.5 TB HDD for other stuff on steam.

I will just add to this thread rather than start a new one.

I have a Corsair CSSD-F120GBLS 7mm 120GB on order expecting it tomorrow.

I have 3 HDD installed and an intermittently working crucial M4 60Gb that needs upgraded firmware which I have failed in numerous attempts to instal.

The HDD's are 2x 160 Maxtors which I have partitioned into 1 striped raid array of 50gb X2 and 2 simple volumes.

A 1 TB Samsung is partitioned into 4, an 800Gb storage partition a 100mb system reserved a 55gb logical drive and 81Gb Boot and pagefile primary partition

I have presently DCS World running on the striped array and am wondering whether I should reinstal windows to the new corsair SSD and leave DCS where it is or put both on SSD.

Oh and I will be running the new SSD through an ASUS 6Gb PCI-E expansion card

Any thoughts or advice will be useful in helping make my choices

Thanks
