Personally I think its made by the same creators of Strike Fighters Project 1 and Wings over Vietnam. If it even remotely touches LOMAC on realism then it might be worth it. But I expect to see that sim at the local book stores being sold for $3.99 a piece.

What about this one guys not saying i am going to go to it but if any one has it and has some feed back, would be awesome, thanks!

The screenshots shows an almost exact copy of the falcon4 terrain and weather system.

Of course we all know that falcon is a lot more than just the gpu-engine.

The system requirements are ridiculous low. My guess is that it is rather arcade.

Anyway this can be good for getting noobs into modern flight sims and let them step over to more serious flight simulators like FC and Falcon.

Fellas, Wings Over Europe is simply the next version of Strike Fighters (SFP1/WoV), adding more modern a/c and avionics along with some other new features. A patch will also be released to add the new features back into the previous versions.

Here's some pit shots (community enhancements)...

Anyone who's curious can pick up SFP1 at Circuit City for $5.00 (I paid $10.00 at Office Max). It's an open sim with so much stuff to download it's mind boggling.

Some available flyable a/c...

Oh ED, why don't you guys do a cold war sim ? I guess that would make a couple of people very happy :)

And I bet there are no reference problems for the mighty MiG-23.

It is by playing SFP1/WOV that I found out about Lockon anyway. SFP1/WOV is promoted as being a "light" sim. FMs of the stock aircraft are very good, but also very forgiving at the edges of the flight envelope. WOE will add some rudimentary modern avionics like CCIP etc.

It is not meant as competition to Lockon at all, but as D-Scyhte said it strenghtens the flightsim market. Certainly in this case, since the SFP1/WOV line is very, very succesful given the entry level prices and is attracting a lot of new players. Lockon is really what you want if you have flown hours of SFP1/WOV and need an "upgrade".

Soo many mods, and still no working ejection seats, wow, that's an achievement.

The F-4's FM was very believable (you have to set the flight models to realistic first in the options menu, before starting the whining about FMs) IMHO, the stalls were deadly at low altitude, and the unpredictable yawing roll was there too. Now, when it comes to weapon moddeling... nah.

F4's FM implemented real world lift and drag data but they forgot all about moments of inertia and it flew as a paper plane. if you look HUD tapes and then jump into the F4 pit youll see how poorly the sense of flight compares. The F-16 jitters in the edges of the envelope too. I still think the F-16 is underpowered anyway, you cant do all those manuevers you see on airshows and F4 implementation of the F-16 drags the falcon down so badly it feels that your flying an F-86 instead of an F-16.

Well, I'm at least somewhat anxious about this release. Cold War scenario (mid to late 80s) is my favourite setting, but at the same time I'm not expecting much. It would be nice if they made some real map and not the usual generic kind and I'm very sceptical about radar and weapon modelling, especially for the more advanced fighters (i.e. F-15).

I'm dissapointed to see no Soviet-Bloc fighters are flyable out of the box. Sure, most of them are made by community already, but with generic radar and weapons modelling. Plus the fact that putting all those mods together makes my skin crawl.

It would be great if Lock On's successor would go this way, IMHO.

i386DX40@42 MHz w/i387 CP, 4 MB RAM (8*512 kB), Trident 8900C 1 MB w/16-bit RAMDAC ISA, Quantum 340 MB UDMA33, SB 16, DOS 6.22 w/QEMM + Win3.11CE, Quickshot 1btn 2axis, Numpad as hat. 2 FPH on a good day, 1 FPH avg.

DISCLAIMER: My posts are still absolutely useless. Just finding excuses not to learn the F-14 (HB's Swansong?).

I am a bit sceptical about WOE. For me the Strike Fighters series was a big dissapointment, even tough I realy wanted to like the sim ( because of the great setting ). I can accept the approach that SF is a "sim light", but the gameplay has to be right for this. And the number one gameplay killer of SF for me was the poor visual model. The airplanes are incredible hard to see and dissapear completly after only a couple of hundret meters. And a sim that concentrates very much on dogfights where you can't see your enemys simply doesn't work.

There are many other problems with SF that don't have anything to do with bugs or lacking realism ( wich falls in the sims scope ), but with bad design and lacking gameplay.

So WOE devenitly has to improve in those areas to appeal to me, but I somehow doubt that this will happen. It is a pitty, because the scenario would be great.

So I will continue to lobby for ED to swich to the cold war area in the future.

Man I love you . . . :icon_syda

Cold war era is THE best scenario for a sim for a number of reasons, the prime being balance. There are not any better timeframes where both sides are evenly matched, at least in the jet age. WW2 works really well for balancing, and I think that during the 80s a similar matchup existed.

NATO Flyables:

I couldn't even guess what might be improved in this upcoming release / patch but as I understand it, SF is practically a one man show that keeps improving...slowly but surely.

BTW, a WWI SF-based sim is also coming out soon.

Thirdwire's sims are always a little on the light side when it comes to avionics. The fact that it's got so many flyable aircraft makes me wonder how far in depth they have gone. Might be worth a look though.

Hey thats your choice not mine....but when I had played Strike Fighers in all its infamy, I walked away with 999 a2a kills and 999a2g kills with 999 pilot deaths. Its overdone on me. Too easy.

I will say this though....strike fighters always made the best screenshots for photo editing thats for sure.

Yeah I know but its like my first one.

BeetleJuice, looks like you need a new soundcard; Hitman, you're right: SFP1/WOV is THE game to make aviation screenshots. In fact, most of us are continuously switching external views to have awesome sightings!

Your picture is great ... and the F-4B is my all-time favourite!
