@VEAO: regarding the roadmap ...

Things went more slowly than anticipated. The Hawk, the Typhoon ...

Do you expect to things speed up a bit - now after a few "lessons learned"? Or is the current pace just about what one can expect it to be?

Not complaining, but tbh, when you announced that you'd expect the Typhoon to go Beta at about end of '14 / beginning of '15 I was a bit like ...

Things - in general - seem to progress slower than initially anticipated. End of '15, beginning of '16 for the Typhoon seems indeed more realistic. What are your realistic estimations these days, how much do you, realistically, adjust your estimations nowadays?

Your "open communications" policy I appreciate very much. And that is why I am asking this - and not because I am complaining.

The Typhoon has been delayed mainly due to Hawk to be honest as the team that were working on Hawk were going to be on Typhoon. That's no longer the case as team's have been re-tasked.

There's been a big re-structure in the way we're making the mods by having a base EFM, base ASM etc. We also needed to do this for Typhoon to make it more productive.

Also there's been delays to the military side of things (that's just the way it is with those guys) and Pete and I are up at Connie in 2 weeks for a meeting to go through Typhoon systems.

That will give us a good indication of what we can and can't do for the public version which will of course speed up production rather than doing the whole feature set and then dumbing it down for public release. We need to have this meeting for things to really start progressing.

There is also another military project that we are working on (which will have a public version) that has similar MHDD functionality like Typhoon which will also help with the MHDD ASM programming as some things can be shared between aircraft.

Current tasks for Typhoon are:

Complete re-model of external and internal 3D models including textures (not going through the whole Hawk thing again).

Planing out and modelling of the MHDD ASM

EFM

That seems a lot but with the team we have, not that much.

We have learnt a lot of lessons over the past three years building Hawk and in fact Pete and I had a chat about that today. A lot of pain has been had to make things smoother in the future.

Please let me assure you Typhoon is priority and we aim to have it out by Christmas this year. That's the deadline I've set which we think is realistic but will know more in 2 weeks after being back in the jet.

Thanks,

Chris.

I wouldn't take is as that, you've been a great supporter of us all along :)

Speaking on the warbirds/Classic Jets front the change from our own DRM software to Starforce set us back abit with the programming as well as a change of direction with how the ASM and EFM is written, details of which I cant go into as they are strategic decisions confidential to our devs (I am sure you understand)

But the long and short of it on the warbirds front we have experienced about a 1Q delay on original estimates, So P-40F is currently looking March - April, Bearcat, May - June, Spitfire August ish, Buchon and Wildcat Q3-Q4

This is always subject to change, but as always we will keep everyone abreast of any developments :)

Vampire somewhere late Q2 - Q3

August-ish... oooo :-(

But I guarantee you come August-ish, I will be there with dollars in my grubby little hands just itching to climb into a brand new Spitfire, climb up into the clouds and shoot the hell out of everything moving, hovering, or just plain getting in my way!

By the way, as I am a bit confused (perpetually, I believe), I understand the setback going to starforce and getting ED to do their thing with the installer, but is there any hope of seeing the Hawk installed soon on my gaming rig? Days? Weeks? Months? Quarters? Years? Decades? Centuries? Millennia? Ages? Epochs? Periods? Eras? Eons? Supereons? (Yes, I have been playing in Wikipedia again....)

Or, is my question moot because it's an ED thing?

Oh, how I neeeeeeeeed the Hawk at Sochi!

Don't get me wrong; I'm not Russian you. It's just that Iran into a beautiful little Hawk on the server a couple days ago and fell in love with it. I know there's Norway for me to fly it tonight, but, well, you know...

:joystick:

The Hornet is best at killing things on the ground. Now, if we could just get a GAU-8 in the nose next to the AN/APG-65, a titanium tub around the pilot, and a couple of J-58 engines in the tail...

Well if you have already purchased it then there is a thread here with an installer we released for 1.12.14 so you can download that, use your key from either us or from the ed store and you will be set to go :)

Have a look for the hawk installer 1.12.14 thread (on my phone so I can't link it)

As for hawk installer with dcs, soon ;) weeks not months ;)

Yeah I am looking forward to a spit xiv just as much as you are, my second favourite Spitfire!

Haha nice ending there Mac ;)

In final tests a few things cropped up when building the installer.

We're working on those to get it done, wrapped up with a bow and shipped out.

Hopefully days not weeks, months, quarters, years, decades, etc....

Hi Guys,

My install of DCS is 1.2.14.36041.

Downloaded DCSHawk_Preview_1.2.11-20.5-RC8.

Dropped it onto my gaming rig desktop.

No AV. No Firewall.

Ran the exe as admin.

Installed in my (D: drive) DCS folder.

Keyed in ED's pass code.

It installed.

Went to module manager and, as expected, saw the T.1a but no activation serial note.

Ran the Hawk's cold start.

DCS has stopped running.

Was dropped back into the main menu.

I ran an F-86 free flight just to make sure DCS was still okay.

Did a repair DCS anyway.

Still no Hawk instant action.

uninstalled the Hawk.

Tested the F-86.

Re-installed the Hawk.

tested the F-86 and then the Hawk again.

F-86 is still sweet. Hawk: no joy.

I suspect it's an activation lockup somehow.

I have very good Internet speeds up and down.

Suggestions?

My question for Ells or Pman

With the size of the team being larger now and with them all having various skills, if let's say all of the planes you're working on have completed External and Internal models. Is that when the decision is made to choose another aircraft?

It really depends to be honest, we have taken on projects outside of the roadmap where something exciting has come along and there is drive within the team to do it.

Really depends on the projects, it's complexity and the reason it has come to light

Good luck with the Tiffy visit, team, will be crunch time really and i'm focused on your non-specific feedback. I think I can speak for us all in saying we would love to read about your time and what you did in as much detail as you can share. :)

Thanks, I'll post up as much as I can when we get back :)

Mmmmmm all this talk about fixed wing. :(

Come on guys, you know I'm desperate for that Puma. ;)

Granted I know realistically we are talking at least a few years. But nothing wrong with a friendly reminder.

Fixed wing is fun, but nothing beats rotary. :)

And my personal weapon of choice? ;)

It was added to the roadmap after the current aircraft that have been in the works for some time.

Work may start in model by q3 but wouldn't expect anything to release till mid 2016
