I am running an AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4 and I am thinking of upgrading to an i5 . How much improvement would I see in DCS ?

Currently running GTX 750ti video card

I'm running the same processor, Phenom II X4 965 black edition 3.4GHz, due for an upgrade as well. Just swapped my dual HD 5770 cards for a single EVGA GTX 970, boy that alone was an insane difference. :) I'll probably upgrade the mobo, ram and get an Intel chip in the next few months or so to complete it. But like MFTDarkEagle said it'll be a big difference.

Phenom II to i5 will be marginal as you're still using entry level GFX.

Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2),

ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9)

3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs

How about this for a video upgrade then ? GeForce GTX 970 4GB

You will definitely notice an improvement. :)

ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Extreme 8GB, Corsair HX1000i, Phillips BDM4065UC 40" 4k monitor, VX2258 TouchScreen, TIR 5 w/ProClip, TM Warthog, VKB Gladiator Pro, Saitek X56, et. al., MFG Crosswind Pedals #1199, VolairSim Pit, Rift CV1

I got a 760 GTX for my sons PC and that gave real good results for the money at WQHD and all maxed out.

The difference to my 980 gtx is there, yes, but I could live with a 760 gtx and not miss much tbh, I had a Nv-650M-GT before in a laptop LoL.

The 970 is for sure not a bad card, as long as you dont go beyond its 3.5 GB issue with 4k. For QHWD my Asus tool showed about 2GB max VRAM usage, so 3.5GB is no issue up to 4k I guess.

970 is what I am looking at... sounds like the memory issue is really for people running resolutions over 1080... but I have time to watch it all as I collect vid card money in my piggy bank...

As for the OP, I went from a similar processor to the i7 4790K... I am very happy so far :)

Went from AMD Phenom II to Intel I-5 4680K based on all I had read here on these forums about DCSW favoring Intel. It was a noticeable upgrade. You will not regret the move.

Intel i5-4690K Devil's Canyon, GForce TitanX, ASUS Z-97A MB, 16GB GDDR3 GSkill mem, Samsung SSD X3,Track IR, TM Warthog, MFG Crosswind pedals, Acer XB280HK monitor,GAMETRIX KW-908 JETSEAT

I was back and forth between the 970 and 980, and based on what I read the 980 was only an advantage for me if I were running multiple monitors or crazy resolutions. Also the ~200 dollar price difference between the 2 for marginal performance increases was silly. Got a factory-overclocked 970 and couldn't be happier with it. DCS maxed out is as smooth as butter, even with this old AMD chip. :)

The 980 GTX will deliver solid 60fps+ with EVERYTHING at max at WQHD, using NV-panel to dial in 16xAF, 8xMSAA and 8xFxAA using the Mig-21bis module in Free-Flight as reference.

When I go down to 8xAF and 4x elsewhere it will go 80+, it will even go 130 if you take some other stuff out.

Using Gsync I don't really need super high fps anymore, fluent is fluent, anything above 50 is fine for me with all maxed out.

The 760 GTX, honestly, was not much different in gameplay, its a give and take at a very high level and price range. The 970 will for sure give like 80% or more of what the 980 does.

If I could do SLI on my board I may would...who knows :)
