Mizzy Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 I have just bought Mig 15 and thought I wanted to do some mods and artwork etc. But DCS moves it's goal posts in almost every upgrade in DCS 1. It's my belief that people who wish to mod the game will be better off waiting for DCS 2 as it seems more of a single product rather than a platform that needs changing every time a new module is introduced. Since my main interest in DCS is artwork and playing around with mods and stuff, I thought it's best to wait for the DCS 2 version. I don't fight in this game or any other game for that matter so no point for me to continue until the new lovely version 2 comes out and then I can play with all it's new mod friendly stuff that makes ED/TFC simulator the best out there....in my humble opinion that is ! infernus1986 Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 (edited) I think we are better off waiting for DCS world 2.0 for a lot of reasons, I put my X-55 in the closet for now  Hopefully the third party developers projects killing the engine performance will encourage ED to get 2.0 out. Flogger23m Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Fair enough; each to their own. I just finished a livery for the Su-27. Still new to Photoshop and I am trying to learn some new things. If ED had the Su-33 template out I would have made this skin for the Su-33, which is far more appropriate than the 27. Thread here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=140382 I would also like to make MIG-21 skins, but also, no template for that. Sadly Leatherneck claims they will wait until DCS 2 to release one. I will admit though, I only "played" DCS a few times these past few months. I too am waiting for the new engine, and what I hope are lots of updates to AI and whatnot.

Mizzy Posted March 14, 2015 Author Posted March 14, 2015 Ever so slightly things change and mods don't work, I have flyable tomcat, tornado, Typhoon etc, work fine in 1.2.10 but broke in 1.2.12 ....and so on. Remember it's only my choice, I am not proselytizing my views on anyone else !! Mizzy

crazyeddie Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Tend to agree with you Mizzy, and for similar reasons. I have been drifting back to IL2 a lot recently just for the fun of it, not in the same league I know but it's still good fun and a lot less hassle to Mod. Hopefully see you back here when DCS 2 arrives, just hope I am still above ground then ! Keep smiling.
KLR Rico Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 I've dialed back my DCS'ing a lot too, but just because all I can think about when I play 1.x is how good 2.0 looks in all those youtube videos and I get depressed. :) i5-4670K@4.5GHz / 16 GB RAM / SSD / GTX1080 Rift CV1 / G-seat / modded FFB HOTAS

WinterH Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 I must be a minority since I care next to none at all about new graphics and new maps :). Though to be honest I too am on a hiatus with DCS, for other reason, most prominent being RL stuff being slightly hectic. Wishlist: F-4E Block 53 +, MiG-27K, Su-17M3 or M4, AH-1F or W circa 80s or early 90s, J35 Draken, Kfir C7, Mirage III/V DCS-Dismounts Script

Of course it is your prosel... uhm, what? ;o) ... anyway, yeah, but you realize that such mods are quite on the borderline to what one could see as a "DCS mod"? I see such mods rather as an extreme, pushing DCS to and beyond it's intended limits. (and still, DCS is still so flexible to allow such kind of mods) DCS has it's shortcommings and rough edges, no doubt. And even under "regular operation limits" it's sometimes exhausting to keep up with all the changes and bugs, I agree. But in this case, my personal opinion, you might be a bit overreacting. (sry! ;o)
Art-J Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Hmmm... I dunno Mizzy... I have a feeling that with DCS 2 bringing new features plus new NTTR map still in alpha version, the merry-go-around of patches, fixes, new bugs replacing old ones, mods becoming incompatible etc. is going to spin even faster than before. Especially during first year after release. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
jimcarrel Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 3 things you can always depend on, death, taxes and updates. Pretty simple to remember Win 10 64 bit Intel I-7 7700K 32GB Ram Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 6gig

Ohh, yes I see what you mean, but at least I will know DCS 2 will be around a long time so learning it's file structure for mods will be an investment. @Crazyeddie, what are you talking about, "if I am still above ground" !! People like you stay above ground a lot longer than the people that sit and do nothing hun x I'm an old bird too you know !! Mizzy

Especially during first year after release. It was always thus ... sadly we never seem to get anything that is even half way finished any more and I fear your prediction is going to be correct ... I doubt I will be doing any spinning if you are. I went back and ran my old LFC2 last week, just for the fun of it, then started to notice all the bugs and issues that never got fixed there, so nothing changes. Warts and all it is still the only decent Sim out there, the others are all a long way back in terms of quality and performance. Mizzy - Not that old - a mere lad of 70, hence my apprehension about still being above ground, I am anticipating a long wait !! Edited March 15, 2015 by crazyeddie

Diplocaulus Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 While I'm very excited by the prospects of DCS World 2 (the video previews are blowing my mind), I'm sticking to what I have--because it's what I have now. Windows 10 64bit / Intel Core i7-5820K Haswell-E 6-Core 3.30 GHz / 32GB RAM / GeForce GTX 1080 8GB / Dell UltraSharp 27 QHD U2715H 2560x1440 / Saitek X52 Pro Flight System / TrackIR 5
Mizzy Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 For me DCS works way better than most games, it's a computer game so there will be bugs. I just feel that DCS 2 is not that far away and I don't want to be modding stuff that just won't work or transport over to the new game. It's just a waste of time. Yes CrazyEddie, a mere lad as you rightly point out, l am not far behind :-) Mizzy
