In short, I saw a game named "take on helicopter". Before i buy it, I want to know, wether take on helicopter's dynamics and control can match DCS UH-1 and Mi-8 level or not?

I like fly heli in many fsx and others for many years, but only after DCS Huey, I found I totally don't know how to fly a Heli. is that "take on helicopter" real like DCS UH-1??

Thanks

In short, not even close!

Forget others. I did. :)

I agree. I have Take On Helicopters as well and is nowhere near the quality of DCS Huey/Mi-8. Flight model feels simplified and was never promoted as a sim. It is also no longer being updated by the developers. However the missions are fun and I still play it every now and then, so it depends what you are looking for.

ToH is one of the worst games featuring helicopters...I won't even dignify it by calling it a sim. The new "advanced" flight model for Arma 3 helos (which is made by Bohemia, same guys that made ToH) is a step in the right direction, but still nowhere near DCS helos.

Afterburners are for wussies...hang around the battlefield and dodge tracers like a man.

The TOH 'flight model' has since been incorporated into ARMA III. It's not very good.

I have the helicopter DLC for Arma 3 and its great fun, I think the thing to bare in mind is DCSW is a study sim, arma is a game but its a great game.

Having first started playing OFP in 2001 I think its great BIS have given the flight model some love and while it will never come close to the quality of Belsimteks work it is never the less a lot more engrossing than once it was:)

It's fair to say that Belsimtek has ruined other helicopter games/sims for us with the effort they put in!!

The only alternative to dcs for helicopter flight dynamics is x-plane 10. Specifically the Dreamfoil Creations helicopters are excellent. Nothing else comes close.

To fully appreciate them you need proper helicopter controls (they are a real handful with a joystick).

What makes ARMA 3 enjoyable is the graphics. The flight dynamics are better than default fsx but it's the visuals where it really shines. I got it working in the Oculus Rift DK 2 and although it was not proper 3d and had some warping issues it looked stunning. Doing high speed approaches onto rooftops in the little bird with the rift is a blast. It's a game though not a simulation. If treated as such and your not expecting anything more from it then it is a lot of fun. I never tried it on a monitor so mileage may vary. Not sure how much of my enthusiasm is based on wearing the rift. I'd definitely recommend ARMA 3 with the helicopter DLC before TOH though.

TOH got extensive community modding to try and improve the FD (Fred who created Helicopter total realism for FSX even tried to improve it) alas it never reached its potential. What good work was done incorporating Rotorlib tables etc found its way into ARMA.

First of all Take on Helicopters is a game. It has a story driven background and uses mainly the ArmA engine for World modeling and flight model... So as others said, in terms of "flying" a helicopter, there is DCS and there are "helicopter games".

Belsimtek modeled the best and most realistic helicopter simulation I laid my hands on, yet.

If you expect anything like the Huey from ToH you will be disappointed.

The missions and story though, if you just want to jump in and have some fun, may be get some accomplishments, seems not bad. Compared to "Apache: Air Assault" it is definitely better...

If you love flying the Huey or Mi-8 in DCS, though, I wouldn't recommend it.

Thank you so much for all your responds!!!

I am so glad I can fly a heli simulator which is so close to real heli.

after I saw a video clip police' heli fly through city high rise buildings, I am afraid i missed a good heli sim. Now, I feel much better

Thanks again to all

From what little I have played Arma III, the choppers "are not bad".

I really like the way you can lean out of the helicopter in comparison to DCS.

No I really love the way you can lean out of the helicopter in comparison with DCS.

But in terms of helicopter flight modeling... there is nothing close to DCS. period.

HP G2 Reverb (Needs upgrading), Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate. set to OpenXR, but Open XR tool kit disabled.

DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), DLSS setting is quality at 1.0. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC... Everything needs upgrading in this system!.

Vaicom user and what a superb freebie it is! Virpil Mongoose T50M3 base & Mongoose CM2 Grip (not set for dead stick), Virpil TCS collective with counterbalance kit (woof woof). Virpil Apache Grip (OMG). MFG pedals with damper upgrade. Total controls Apache MPDs set to virtual Reality height. Simshaker Jet Pro vibration seat.. Uses data from DCS not sound... goodbye VRS.

If, for whatever reason, you want another helicopter sim from time to time your best bet is either the Dodosim Bell 206 for FSX or any helicopter which is supported by the HTR (hovercontrol.com) add-on for FSX. You can't consider it proper training software but their flightmodel is the closest to realistic behaviour currently available to the consumer market, besides the Mi-8/UH-1/Ka-50 of course.
