While I think there are way more hideous examples to be shown among the aircraft, I can't help but also think that among above 3 only Lightning is just barely passable as far as looks go =P. Buccaneer definitely has long been in my ugly list :).

Still, they just can't hold a candle to this :

That just might be the most hideous thing that was taken to the skies, at least in my eyes.

Mmmm the Leduc is quite good looking IMO, ugliness is quite subjective.

Maybe we should start similar thread, with the most good looking planes :)

Seriously now, good looking? :D

But yeah, beauty is in the eye of beholder as the saying goes.

I think most beautiful aircraft thread would be reduntant since, majority of the aircraft tend to look beautiful in one way or other. It is the exceptions, the oddballs that inspire threads like these.

Here's another oddball :

Well, this one may be said to have some degree of beauty may be, but a weird one for sure. Apparently it is called "Sud-Est S.E.2410 Grognard", can't write that without copy/paste...

A lot boils down to taste. That being said, one of my least favourite designs has to be the Yak-15. The Yak-17 fixed it a little bit, but the 15... It might have been revolutionary, and a ridiculously light and compact fighter for its time, but those looks, the tail wheel and particularly considering that it 'ruined' a sleek plane like the Yak-3 kill it for me.

It seems that every country has produced ugly planes at the begining of jet era !

The X-32 looks very happy and the canopy of the A-9 makes me think of the A-10 one !

To me, the Mig I-320 in post #41 looks very like this !

I concur that both He-162 and Me-163 are beauties :)

However, can't quite agree on Meteor being ugly, it is rather pretty in my opinion.

Haha well thank God that Tastes are unique :P

I dont know why I dont like the Meteor. Its the proportion of the Plane. A real nice fuselage and sharp and well designed Wings. Till here all is good but than there the Engines DA DA DAAAA! :D

They dont fit right IMO theyre too big.

Now bakc to topic: Another "ugly" one imo SAAB J21R:

Wait, what? An engine can be too big?

Yea they could! :P

When an Engine doesnt really fit to the rest of the Plane, in this case they are a way too big, it looks pretty silly to me...

Sacrilege !

Ugliness-wise it's on par with the YA-9, that's what I meant.

I don't find it pretty or ugly, just average.

How can you call the X-32 ugly?

It's like, the world's happiest fighter jet, man.

Well, you can be ugly and happy at the same time

You're right and I would add that in this case, you are beautiful !

Personally, I have decided not to call a jet fighter, plane or whatever, ugly anymore.

Instead, I would rather employ one of the following terms : weird, bizare, unusual, original.

...To be fair though, we ought to discount experimental or prototype aircraft.

I completly agree but from what I've said above, I can't help showing those two ones whose shape and looking are more than weird :D

The Tacit Blue, an experimental aircraft to demonstrate stealth capabilities. Unveilled in April 1996.

259713tacitblueinflightjpg800x600q85crop.jpg

And the Northrop XP-79, which was first flown as early as in september 1945 and retired right after. It was one of the first concept of a flying wing.

434705NorthropXP79B.jpg

They are just weird and surpising aicrafts demonstrating the inventive ability of engineers to go beyond what was the current trend in their respective eras.
