Can't it be used for other things aswell, like nav and mav (which would make it a Multi Function Display)?

Like I said in my post earlier, some of the radar variants had limited functionality as an MFD.

IMO the real question is what RWR DCS: F-5E would feature, the image featured above shows a rather recent modernised system. As far as I know 1972 tigers looked more like this:

So according to wiki, the F-5E has a "TV" mode for its APQ-159-1 radar, which is used for guiding Mavericks. How does this work exactly? Does it just have a camera on the nose like the Ka-50, or does it some how turn radar returns into a TV picture?

I imagine it just uses the Maverick's seeker (if that's the right word)

If it's specifically for the maverick , i would hazard a guess and say that it just looks trough the maverick's optical sensor

Damn! First time i got sniped

Even if they model a later version of the radar, I hope they still include Mavs. The game is already set in an alternate reality in which NATO fights Russia, I imagine doing some wire work to make AGM-65B compatible could be done without too much difficulty. The radar on the MiG-21bis doesn't support the Kh-66, but nobody is complaining about that.

Great catch. I reckon the rest looks something like this?

Airliners.net says this is the Swiss version of the plane. Do American-made ones look like this too?

The pit with the round radar display is the earlier type F-5E AN/APQ-153 display. The picture Fixen posted is not an MFD but also a radar display that came with the AN/APQ-159 upgrade.

I just want some conformation on this dammit! Wags, just tell us when, our wallets are ready for another beating!:pilotfly:

EDIT: Found this - C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Sounds\sdef\Aircrafts\F-5E.

Seems odd right? Considering only flyable aircraft, bar the F-5E and Spit IX have their own subfolders here....

Just checked for myself, yes, other AI only aircraft (that are not considered likely flyables anytime soon) have their own custom sound files, but they don't have their own sound folders. The only two AI only planes that have that are the Spit IX and the F-5E. I wouldn't take it as confirmation of a flyable F-5E, but it's one more bit of evidence to suggest its coming in the near future.

Exactly, it is at the very least another little hint.

Also, keep an eye on the MP server list every now and then, specifically the map column... :smilewink:

They had a server up last night with the Nevada map and four F5 slots only. I had posted a screenshot but it was removed. It is now the worst kept secret.

One of these is a mod, and I agree it was dubious, but Nevada (I saw this in the actual browser too, with my own eyes) is not available outside of ED/3P devs. At least not a version compatible with 1.5. However, discussion of closed threads is a bad idea IIRC, as there is always a good reason. ;)

So lets not let this get too off topic guys!
