Shahdoh Posted July 12, 2015 Posted July 12, 2015 Server has been unable to be connected to remotely. Pman and Rock were out of town at the Duxford show and need to wait for their return to check on the status.

VH-Rock Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 ### SERVER STATUS UPDATE ### Hello all, We've received a lot of questions over the last couple of days asking where the server has gone. Unfortunately, as we were at Duxford, we've been unable to respond to all of these messages or do anything to remedy the situation. Now we're back home, we want to address the situation... A couple of weeks ago, our hosts made us aware that they no longer wanted to support the package that we were using. When our current contract expired (This weekend), they would not be renewing it. They did offer us a choice of their other plans but, due to the requirements of DCS, none were suitable. We're currently looking for an alternative, cost effective, way of hosting the server. Currently, we do not know when/if this will happen. On average, the VA server is using around 40GB of data per day, this rules a lot of packages out there as they're just far too expensive to consider. We're sorry for the inconvenience and we'll be back if we can find a sensible way of hosting our server. Virtual Horsemen - Right Wing (P-51) - 2008... mwheeler Posted July 14, 2015 Author Posted July 14, 2015 That is extremely disappointing... does anyone know of any other good servers to practice formation flying etc? I'm working on starting a new Squadron with a couple friends soon and if anyone reading this is interested please PM me ASAP... We will be doing a lot of formation work, weapons training, and workups similar to real life USAF and USN Squadrons. I'll post in the squadron directory when I have it going, but if anyone wants to get some info PM me for details... Mike "Wheels" [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Taproot Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 DCS is officially rendered useless. Hope to see you back up soon! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Pman Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Just an update, Plans are afoot to bring the server back early next week Appreciate the patience of everyone, the overwhelming support we have received has spurred Rock and I on to resolve this issue. Keep tuned... Pman

104th_Maverick Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Just an update, Plans are afoot to bring the server back early next week Very relieved to hear this! Your presence was sorely missed, the DCS Community wouldn't be the same without the Virtual Aerobatics server ran by you guys. You have contributed so much and opened DCS up to so many people, not having you around is almost unthinkable! S! sniperwolfpk5 Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Well this is the only server which I use for multiplayer. The server list is meaningless without virtual server. I appriciate your support. VH-Rock Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Hi guys, Thank you very much for all the kind messages - As Pete said, it's been a great motivator to help us get the server back online. A few days ago, we were seriously having conversations about whether VA had run it's course. Thankfully, a few key people have helped us get out of that situation. To throw some more light on what's been going on... As it turns out, the reason the server has been down is because of a HDD failure, not our lease expiring. Our lease does expire on the 19th, however, which is why we assumed that to be the case. Initially, our hosts did not want to offer us the same package again and their other services did not meet our requirements. It was all looking pretty negative at that point... Thankfully, after Pman sent a few emails, they have offered us a 6 month extension. Whilst this isn't ideal, it does give us 6 months to try and find a more permanent solution - Much better than the 5 days that we thought we had! Even after being offered the extension, we were still left with one problem - Cash. Since we founded the server in February 2013, VA has been paid for by myself, Pman and a few kind people who wanted to donate to the running costs. Normally, we would pay either monthly or quarterly, depending on our financial situation at the time (Which was never a problem). We always said that we never wanted VA to be one of those communities that relied on donations and had to beg our members for cash at the end of every month (That kind of thing always irritated me (us)). When we were offered the extension, our hosts wanted 6 months rent up front. Unfortunately, we could not afford to get that much cash together, on such short notice. We're very lucky to have such a dedicated and generous admin team at Virtual-Aerobatics. Each member has chipped in what they can and this has enabled the server to survive. Whilst I wouldn't normally talk publicly about the finances of the VA Server, I feel that we do need to recognise the efforts of our fantastic team. We have never asked for a penny from anybody to pay for VA, but the fact that people are willing to put their hands in their pockets to help it survive, along with the our-pouring of support, means a great deal to myself and Pete. A lot of the work these guys do for the VA server goes unrecognised, and it's about time that changed. With regards to the HDD failure, the team are working to solve the issue as soon as possible and we're hoping to the server back up over the next week. We know it's a few days away, but the team are working tirelessly to recover whatever data we can from the old hdd and set up the new system. Thank you for you patience and support Rob. Hi Rock I trust a good weekend was had by all at Duxford? We've got our tickets for the September BoB show so hopefully will see you all again then.....looking forward to it mate. Anyway back on topic........I fly a LOT on the VA server "Bartman" probably rings a few bells and the odd crash! and it's the only server I go on. I've have met many great characters on it over the 2 or so years I've been going on, most are regulars like myself. I really don't think VA has run it's course, if anything it's the opposite. It is by far and a very long way THE BEST server on the list, and I can not imagine for one minute DCS without VA, it would leave a very big gap in DCS World for sure. I just can't imagine it!. The server is a real credit to all who work so tirelessly to keep it running.......... I have pledged money in the past to help the server out, and I was glad to help, but seriously if you guy's need a regular subscription to help keep this thing alive I wouldn't hesitate to sign up to it. You guy's do an awesome job with it, and it is very very much appreciated by us, the end users. This year is a sad one enough already with the loss of the Vulcan soon, lets not make it a double wammy and loose VA too :( Best wishes to everyone at Virtual Aerobatics, Pete (Bartman).......... UPDATE... Just sent a donation through to Pman via the VA site. I hope others reading this who care about VA jump on the band wagon and pledge too......come on guy's.....dig deep. Just a few quid will go a long way to help keep VA where it belongs...........online. VH-Rock Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 (edited) Hi Bartman, Thank you very much for the donation, they're always greatly appreciated! :) I would just like to add that the above was not an appeal for donations - with the contributions of all the admins, we have managed to cover the cost of the extension. The problem her was not the monthly cost, which has remained the same. It's that, for the first time, they wanted 6 months in 1 lump sum and we only had5 days notice. :) With that said, all donations are always appreciated and it really does help to lighten the load. Once again, thank you all for the support :) Ps, yes, we all had a grat weekend at Dux and we can't wait to go back in September to catch up with or real airshow and virtual Aerobatics family :) Edited July 15, 2015 by VH-Rock 1 Virtual Horsemen - Right Wing (P-51) - 2008... Pman Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Ok Guys, Having spent all evening working on the server it is back up, PLEASE be careful with it :P I can't 100% guarantee that it will be stable right away as I had to do alot of work to get the server back up. I will be monitoring as much as I can over the next few days, but if there is some downtime I apologise in advance, I am doing the best I can with it at the moment :) Pman 1
