xaoslaad Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 (edited) There is something to be said for small routine and frequent updates. I do update my system pretty much as they come and no problem. People sitting on Windows 7 (and older) screaming 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' are likely to hit at once every little rocky bump on the way to updating from there to whatever they finally go to. You're probably also as likely to perceive problems in jumping 3 versions of Windows as to actually experience them. I laugh at people who do this on fast moving bleeding edge Linux distros just as well. You're four releases behind and finally updating? I can't possibly imagine why that's causing problems. It's far easier to say, "I just did 3 updates and something went wrong so let's see what it was.", than "I just installed 300 updates and jumped three versions of Winodws..." SkateZilla Posted July 21, 2015 Posted July 21, 2015 I still dont see what the uproar is about... All the processes monitoring your system were disclosed in the Windows Insider Program agreement. They are gonna monitor App usage, Crash Logs, etc etc, everything. To gather data for the Gold code. If your running WinX without being an Insider, using the ISO and License key acquired through other means than the Insider Program website, then thats your problem, and TBH is borderline illegal. OnlyforDCS Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Just wait a while with the upgrades. Why would I upgrade to Win10 when it is still basically a beta product? How is that sensible in any way?? This is not a simple application, or game we are talking about here, its a completely new OS and it will take a while to work out the kinks. I will wait 6 months at least before upgrading to Win X (if at all) and when I do I will make sure to remove all the bloat and firewall the 'phone home' stuff. Laurius Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 Hi everyone, for those who (Win7 & Win8 ) are bored to see the add proposing to get their version of Windows 10 popping up, you just have to uninstall the update KB3035583. I did this this morning, restarted my computer and no more windows icon in the lower right corner of display. Cherish on the cake, I could recover at least 2 GB on my main drive (SSD). http://www.infoworld.com/article/2922604/microsoft-windows/microsoft-re-re-re-issues-controversial-windows-10-advertising-patch-kb-3035583.html http://www.myce.com/news/how-to-uninstall-kb3035583-the-windows-10-downloader-for-windows-7-and-8-1-75681/ Hope this helps. Laurius Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 (edited) Hi Bucic, thank you for the second link you gave. Are you still annoyed with this Win10 pop up window ? Since my last post here this morning, I again lost some free space on my SSD (it's everyday the same). I don't know where all those GBs or fractions of GBs are going. I've downloaded and ran the App from your second link, and it seems efficient since I could recover again another 2 GB on my SSD. I hope this App won't induce any mess on my system as it seems very new. Otherwise I will restore my system. But so far, so good !! I will check if the updates you mention are still here or not (except for KB3035583) Thanks again Laurius Note : After having uninstalled KB3035583 this morning, I could see (just before writting this post) in Windows updater that this update was still required and was important. I've hidden it and everything seems okay Edited September 12, 2015 by Laurius Asus P8Z68 Deluxe, Intel Core i7-2600K (3.4 GHz), Corsair Vengeance 2x4096 Mo DDR3 1866 MHz, SSD 120 Go Vertex 2, EVGA GeForce GTX 970 FTW ACX 2.0 4Go (04G-P4-2978-KR), TM HOTAS Warthog #03797 (MB replaced), Saitek Combat Pro Rudder, TrackIR 5, TM Cougar MFDs with Lilliput 8" UM 80
Bucic Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 Nope, no popups here. I've removed the 583 as soon as it came out and then, IIRC, another update which was intended to re-introduce pretty much what 583 tried before. Laurius Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 Bucic, please, can you tell which update tried to re-introduced what 583 tried before ? I've been messing arround the entire afternoon and it seems that finally that the App in the second link you gave is a no-go for me since I realize it's changing many things which I don't feel comfortable with at the moment. At least no pop up here also after having uninstalled only the 583. Thank you. As for re-introduction of 583, false alarm. It was just another version of 583. More invasive somewhat. I've extracted an interesting command line commands from one of forum comments. PoleCat Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 (edited) This thread is crazy. HAVING CAPPED THE THREAD TTILE MADE IT EVEN MORE CRAZY! I have upgraded six of my machines from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 and they are all running just fine as are all installed apps and hardware peripherals. I find this OS to be a really nice improvement over Windows 7/8.1 in every respect. Opting out of a free OS upgrade? I don't think so. BTW, where have all the "Microsoft charges too much for an OS" people gone? If you are truly this paranoid you should really wait a few months to pull the trigger on WinX. I am willing to bet that with very little variation the same people posting warnings will clearly see there own paranoia some months later when we find that they are using the very OS they warned us about....... Happens every time! "Change has no constituents" Out Edited September 13, 2015 by PoleCat http://www.104thphoenix.com/

PoleCat Posted September 13, 2015 Posted September 13, 2015 (edited) I'm right here ;) Hasn't this thread turned into "info on recent unwanted MS updates" a while ago? Yes but that is not how it started and many of the comments are mindless MS bashing. By the way, removing the recently introduced telementry (Win 7 and up) along with the functionality downloading W10 installation files to your drive hardly has anything to do with paranoia. Well unless your machine really sucks and it is really dragging you down or you are using illegal versions of the OS then I would actually qualify much of this thread as paranoia. It is easy enough to remove any update you do not want and it has been well documented. This includes the update that offers you the FREE upgrade. I am not sure MS should send an apology for offering what amounts to $140.00 OS for free. Although, I am sure they are sorry for the inconvenience it is causing. BTW, how is free too much money as well? ;) Out Edited September 13, 2015 by PoleCat http://www.104thphoenix.com/
Rangi Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 Seems like it's more work not upgrading to 10 than just letting it do it. Has anyone upgraded their CPU and motherboard with a win 10 install? What is the process to reactivate? PC: 6600K @ 4.5 GHz, 12GB RAM, GTX 970, 32" 2K monitor.

None does it all, they all have flaws, they all come with a price you have to pay, be it money or time and knowledge or device.
