I'm thinking of getting a second SSD for my system, I have one at the moment for the OS and several productivity applications, but I am thinking with DCS World 2.0 coming soon, and given the data size of the nevada map plus what ever else comes along in the future an SSD dedicated to gaming may be a better option, so how do I go about migrating DCS world to an SSD with all the modules I have for it (all of them :D)

Thanks in advance for any advice.

If you don't know already how to do it them probably best way for you is to deactivate all modules and uninstall them, uninstall DCS World then reinstall on the new drive.

Agreed. That is the simplest solution. Besides, aside from having to be there to click the mouse a bunch of times, it doesn't take that long to do a clean install.

I'm doing the same, my Windows 10 is downloading as we speak so I'll be ordering a new 1TB Samsung SSD soon. I'm just going to uninstall and re-install everything tbh, I think it will be better in the long run.

Yes, just copy the whole folder to the new drive. I did copy the whole content of my old drive to my new SSD including DCS. Everything works fine. Just rename your new SSD drive to the letter you used before with your old drive (e.g. F: )

Yeah I am usaully the first to say just clone the drive, however, with your situation/hardware setup, reinstalling DCS world to the new drive might be better.

That's what I was thinking' date=' I was just hoping there was a less time consuming method that doesn't involve touching the registry manually.[/quote']

There is no way I wouldn't first clone the drive, then if problems exist I would of course then and only then re-install everything. Cloning software is as developed as any other program on the market.

No way I would do all that work for not. I cloned my C: drive upon receipt of my SSD and haven't ever had problems.

Windows Settings for SSD

Don't forget to tweak Windows to run on an SSD or else you'll find it used-up too quickly.

Google it, there are lots of tips on what settings to adjust.

I had a spare SSD 250GB when I bought a larger one for my system disk C: 500GB.

All I did was copy my whole DCS folder over to the now G: drive.

I put it in G:\Program Files\

All that needed changing was the in the Desktop Shortcut (and it's copy in the game folder)\Properties "Target" path and "Start In" path

And it worked.

btw Mine's the non-Steam version, if yours is the Steam one than you'll have to move it via Steam or the updates won't follow.

It's doable though, I have Steam stuff on different drives.

There's a useful windows cmd line function called mklink, which allows you to create 'virtual folder', to point to a real folder. So on the OS drive you would see the same DCS folder, but it would be pointing to your new drive (once you have it moved it there). I did this when my steam drive got full, now i got several games on a new SSD, but the virtual folders show up as normal on the old drive.

You just need to keep a note for the future of which folders are 'virtual' because you can't tell by looking at it.

No need to do that anymore. Windows set those parameters auto magicly. sense windows vista was discontinued.
