Oubaas Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 WWII is underway in DCS World. How about some WWI? A Western Front or Verdun map with perhaps a Nieuport 11.C1, Nieuport 17.C1, Fokker D.VIIF, Fokker Dr.1, Sopwith Strutter, Sopwith Camel, Albatros D.Va, Roland CIIa, etcetera, featuring excruciatingly accurate flight models, including reliability issues and all the other issues afflicting pilots and aircraft of that era would be nice, and not as complex to produce as the systems-laden modern aircraft. Anyone else up for some wind in the wires a la DCS? :pilotfly:

FlyingHighAU Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 As long as my R-60M can lock onto it, then why not? :P Just kidding. It would certainly be interesting - the more variety the better!

gavagai Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 excruciatingly accurate flight models The kind of source data used to model WW2 fighters does not exist for WW1 scouts, so you wouldn't have the same kind of accuracy you are used to with other modules. But it could still be fun to see a WW1 scout in DCS. Jacks Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 The kind of source data used to model WW2 fighters does not exist for WW1 scouts, so you wouldn't have the same kind of accuracy you are used to with other modules. But it could still be fun to see a WW1 scout in DCS. There are still plenty of original and flying airframes that could be used as a reference and so I don't see this being a problem. Plans also still exist for many of the aircraft plus the aircraft were so simple that I wouldn't see as too much of a challenge. I would like to see a WW1 French map with a model trench system  Jacks System Specs: i7 8700k @ 5.0GHz (not delidded), ASRock Extreme4 Z370 MOBO, EVGA GTX 1080 SC 8GB, 32GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 3200MHz DDR4 RAM, Samsung Evo 240GB SSD, Samsung Evo 500GB SSD, 1TB HDD, Noctura NH-D15S Heat Sink, Acer VE278H 27" 1080p Monitor, Ocukus Rift CV1. Controllers: TrackIR 5, Thrustmaster HOTAS X, Saitek Throttle Quadrant (with DIY removable collective mod), Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals. Just trying to keep my number of takeoffs and landings equal!
Aginor Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Somehow I never managed to really get used to WWI aircraft. I do own RoF but... meh. Those unstable planes are not for me. But here's a compromise: We could have WWII aircraft that are very similar! You might like - Fairey Swordfish (F*** yeah those things sunk a lot of ships!) - Gloster Gladiator (Portugal still used them in the 50s!) - Avia B-534 - Boeing P-12 (used in Brazil until 1949) - Polikarpow I-153 - Heinkel He-51 - Fiat CR.32 (used in Spain until 1950s) Those stand no chance against more modern prop planes of course, but could be fun to fly against each other. And when we get a BF-109E or a Hurricane those are great opponents to fight. DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet

gavagai Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Flew ROF for awhile. While fun...doesn't trip my trigger. So sSss-l-o-w...like dogfighting in a kite. The pace of combat in a WW1 dogfight is quicker than in any other era, and with fighter jets it is slowest. On the subject of maps, Flanders and northern France are flat. I would prefer the Italian front! ED Team NineLine Posted August 13, 2015 ED Team Posted August 13, 2015 Guys, the OP was about WWI in DCS World, the discussion of other sims here isn't relevant. I for one would love to see/try a WWI era aircraft in ED's PFM... I have come across a number of wind tunnel test documents and such for German WWI aircraft so I am sure it could be done. Oubaas Posted August 13, 2015 Author Posted August 13, 2015 So...I'm not the only one sitting at his computer wearing a silk scarf and waxing my moustache, eh? Glad to see there's some support for the idea, LOL! The more variety, the better!
