I read somewhere you have to increase Windows Virtual Swap file or set it to Autosize.

My 'memory maxed' warning disappeared after I set swap from fixed 2200 to 7500. I have 16GB system, so this shoulnt even happen.

I actually managed to fuel up the MiG-15, ext. 600L drop tanks as well, and stayed airborne on a MP server until I used it all up and landed at Batumi ;)

Great ;) lovin' it

...the other day, DCS crashed with "out of memory" in a SP session....the said leak.

Watched my SysRam values on the G13 while flying tonight. The more action, the faster it fills up. Locks and crashes in the mid 90% range. It's like watching a count down (or up).

My ram will climb until I get to 7.75GB and then I will get horrendous stutters when looking around and loading things, often one of the stutters will cause me to crash or the game to crash. I also think these stutters are causing servers to lag because the clients are not receiving packets when they are freezing but this is just speculation. Do you guys get stutters when your RAM is maxed out?

I have no proof to this but I have the feeling that once your system RAM ( not VRAM ) is occupied it keeps on filling your swapfile, REGARDLESS of the fact if you have defined one or none at all, Windows OS always goes its own way and makes a swapfile, roughly 50% your system RAM size, in my case 8GB swapfile, 16GB RAM.

When I look in MSI Afterburner, my RAM is saturated some time before the crash happens and the stutter some have ( i dont ) might be caused by the SSD or more likely HDD being used as a swapfile drive.

MSI Afterburner also has a grapher for Swapfile, lets have a look on that curve, maybe we can trace the stutter back to swapping, which would be a 2-decade old swapping symptom that you cannot solve unless you pay thousands for hyperfast enterprise Storage Solutions, like this one:

http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/kingspec-p2u38-2t-pcie-ssd-2tb-review,1.html and even then, we would call it "Perlen vor die Säue werfen", the problem is likely within the code of DCS, not your Storage Subsystem being to slow !

We can only hope that the ded. Server will erase all those problems but I sincerely have my doubts, the larger DCS grows the more this 1 core is being stressed. I will stop here as this is another topic and only "slightly" touching the OT.

8 Gig RAM system here and DCS promptly fills right up to 7.5 gig...Stutters and a whole wack of disc usage then follows (filling swap file as previous poster said?).

Huge stutters then lag then crash follows.

Just to expand on the comment (but not comment on the comment)... Windows_7 works best with the Page File setting left at System Default. There have been many instances of the sim not running properly when the PF setting has been changed from default. Its a tweak which worked great on Windows XP and earlier and worked brilliantly

Running a platter Harddrive as a page file mixed with SSD's as main drives, is going to cause issues

Yes, it is like you say, apparently one should not mess with Redmond's decision to force a swapfile on you. I may change m setting to a defined file on the SSD only and hope that MS doesnt decide to also pagefiles on my 2 x 2TB data drives. There is nothing you can do about that other than taking them out and connect them via Thunderbolt or USB3.x, those windows does not use for swapfile space.

Aside all DCS concerns, I have run into "out of memory" with multiple Win7/8/10 machines with 4GB of memory with 64 bit systems....while installing MS-Updates on a fresh system. It even happened with 6GB of memory....MS Updates alone and the system tells you 4 is not enough ( despite MS says on the box that the min. is 2GB for 64bit, which is true, I had to install those too but they have limited practical use, constant swapping on 5.400 rpm is a nightmare )

With 8GB you can somehow have multiple tabs open in your browser, 1 or 2 other apps as well and that is max u should do or it will start swapping heavily, pray you have a ssd so swapping is fast. SSD themselves are faster in all aspects and lifetime if you put more ram into your system, 8GB is the min. to get that effect, more = better ( tons of articles describing this )

Imho 12GB is the least you should run in any 64bit Win7+ for everyday use as a "somehow-poweruser".

Sure 4GB is enough, even 2 may do it, just dont expect super fast performance.

To stretch that a bit, identical Dell Optiplex 9xxx series, one will install all MS Updates the way they appear and come, the other machine, identical, will have problems somewhere down the same list while installing 144 updates ( LoL, how freaking stupid is MS in managing Updates, for decades now, Look at Linux and Mac and see how that works, they all do it 10x better and faster and more reliable than stupid Redmond OS ).

This clearly tells me, that you only have that much control of how things are handled, even in absolut identical enterprise systems that are bought for this very reason behaviour differs as soon as you go to MS Updates or your internal WSUS machine.

SO if one DCS runs fine with 8GB doesnt mean it runs for all on 8GB, it may but it also may not and it will be a forensic IT task to find out why that machine just does it and that just wont by an inch or Megabyte.

Windows is anything but predictable, in every aspect.

Memory Leak

This is a constant issue. There is a memory leak in 1.5 beta that prevents servers from hosting for more than an hour or two. This is a show stopper for many of us.

I have a mission that not matter what, as soon as 4 or more people join, it starts leaking 1k-1mb a sec. indefinitely.

This should be your number one priority. Memory leaks are critical.

I don't play online, but I have an issue where playing single player, and either starting the mission multiple times, or playing different missions one after another, anything that has to do with loading new aircraft or the map over again, will result in the game either crashing/hanging, or a severe drop in FPS. As if the memory and resources needed to run the game are just getting dumped or something.

I agree. Memory leaks are a huge issue. And for those with minimum RAM, such as 8GB, we feel it the most.

Memory leak

+1 to Memory Leaks, as above. My friends and I can't play at all with the above stated.

Hey all I guess this memory leak is a biggie. Mine crashes at around 8gigs and I got a total of 16gigs. If it helps. it reaches the 8gig crash faster with the A10c. When I fly the SU27 I don't think I have crashed with that aircraft, and all single player modules. I really don't last long in multiplayer on the A10c either. Maybe it has something to do with the complexity of the flight models. Thanks!

memory leaks have always plagued software developers - par for the course really.

I'm sure it will be addresses in the same expeditious manner that all such bugs are.

I don't see any memory leak fix on the changelog. Has it been fixed ? Will test today.

EDIT: PROBLEM IS STILL PRESENT. Just as bad as it can get, if not worse. Matt's server just freezes your pc if you don't stop it after 10-20 minutes... it was occupying 4 gb of ram just in the lobby.

This is a little disconcerting.

Only had a few memory leaks. But also plan on upgrading to 16gb. Had to actually cancel it, had emergency this week, and just got out of surgery today.

It's not. It just takes time to fix it properly. Memory leak usually means rewriting sizable chunk of code which in turn can generate further bugs, and so on.

They'll sort it out eventually.

I got the newsletter from ED:

"Update 3 for DCS World 1.5 Open Beta

Today also marks the release of the third update for the Open Beta of DCS World 1.5. Important changes to Update 3 include:

Game stability improvements, including Oculus Rift

Fixes to the MiG-29 cockpit

Fixed mouse visibility issues

Corrected memory management errors

Added working flashlight and fans to Mi-8MTV2

Sincerely,

The Eagle Dynamics Team"

I started the server and problem is still!

That sucks. But it's cool you came out of surgery ok. I hope you heal up quickly.
