After I "Save" if you re click on an aircraft, waypoint, unit etc the "Name, Pilot, and Waypnt Name" are erased and replaces with DictKey_UnitName_748, DictKey_GroupName_747. i have found that if i save As and create new it somewhat works but must shut down DCS altogether and reopen to start from a fresh save as.

My Setup:

HOTAS Warthog, Saitek Combat Pro Rudders, Trackir 5, i Control w/ipad, powered by Alienware Aurora ALX i7 3930k oc 4.2, dual 980s, 16gb Ram.

This occurs if you have the mission file open somewhere else like with 7zip or winrar. Please check your DCS log file in saved games for mission editor lua errors. Or if its happening with a specific mission upload it please.

Ok, i uploaded the log and the saved .miz file that is screwed up. I didnt have it open in anything other than DCS and only had the beta open as well. The map was new for 1.5 despite the 1.2.8B name i just clicked an old name to save time with naming.

I am having the same issue. I can save it once, and units keep the originally name. But if you fly the mission, and return to the mission editor and add more units the units names change to the DictKey.

**Edit** I tried not naming any of the units, and it seems to keep the original names. I guess it only happens when you try naming any of the units?

I tested it without changing any names, and it seemed to work properly. But when you change any of the names, zones, vehicles, aircrafts it changes everything to this. Also you can notice that the save icon stays highlighted like this. As well as if you try to fly mission it will ask you if you want to save, fly without saving, or cancel. Even though you have saved it already. I went to save as and it seemed to save it ok like that.

Just check that you did not zip a aircraft skin and left it in the liveries folder of that particular aircraft, had this same issue with 1.2.16.

This mainly happens when you zip an aircraft skin to send to others and you forget to delete it.

I am seeing this with a mission I have. When opening an old mission it says cannot open for reading then opens the file. I then see the correct Group names then after saving the groupnames have changed to the form mentioned by the OP.

I have exactly the same issue. When I save the original mission file, it inserts weird names of units (as per first post). When I close the mission and open it again (version saved in 1.5) everything seems to be normal, but whenever I make any changes, the "save" icon remains blue.

When I close it again and re-open it, the changes I've made are there, but the mission won't load. Uploading the file, can anyone see if it works for him? Thanks!

I've just found another mission with exactly the same issue. I checked the original file, nothing out of ordinary. Also, no ME specific logs under saved games... Grimes, could you check if the mission I've uploaded causes trouble on your end as well?

Mission Editor Inserting Random Data

I think it has something to do how the mission editor saves the .miz files

I noticed that you have to label the waypoints and cannot leave them blank

If you leave them blank that's when either DCS crashes or it will not save

If you label the waypoints it will save the mission file.

I'm still trying to figure out why it decides to crash when I exit the mission but I'll do more research on that

Cheers

Errors will be in DCS.log now. And I was able to reproduce the problem. The bug I reported with this forum post was set to fixed by a developer but it hasn't been merged into a version that I could test yet so I don't know if it is related or not. It very well could be since the errors are pretty much the same.

I have the same issue in the mission editor. when i make new object like planes it renames them like DictKey_GroupName_5 and It won't save the mission anymore.

I have a new install with the p51 A10c and the F15C.

Did a repair, but that didn't help.

Any idea's anyone?

I think this also happens if you open a mission built in 1.2.xx and then make a change such as adding a unit in 1.5/2.0 and then save.

I find I can avoid this problem by opening up the mission in 1.5 and saving right off the bat before making any changes to the mission. Then I can make changes and save them without problem.

Mission Save Problem

Gents,

I was having this same problem also but was/am unable to consistently repeat it.

I did find, as was suggested in an earlier post in this thread...that using "SAVE AS" when I update something in a mission vice hitting just "SAVE" or hitting the "save" icon disk in ME would not create the naming problem for all the AC in the mission file.

So for now.. I'm just using SAVE AS for each time while this gets figured out per Grimes' post above.

Are you running the game as admin? Right click the shortcut you use to launch the game, go to properties and then advanced. Make sure "Run as Administrator" is checked. It just looks like a permissions culprit....
