I have a g933 on order (should ship in Nov).

Currently have the g930 and while it is a nice headset and sounds great, it has a frequent cut out problem that seems like a central issue suffered by many who have the headset. There is also a problem with the usb charging mount on the headset that goes bad after a while. Basically, with mine, I use an alternative wire for charging, but it does not seem to do a proper charge.

All in all, recommend avoiding the g930 now that it is primarily sold "refurbished" only. Reports are that the G933 has resolved the problems that existed with the G930...hopefully?!

Recommend doing some Google searches on the G930 with keywords noting connection dropouts and charging issues. There is a wealth of content out there along with some home grown fixes (at least for the charging defect).

Have not had any problems you describe with the G930 in 4 years. Friend had the cut out after a couple of years and solved it with a new battery. I just bought a new G930, (not refurbished) because it was on sale at newegg. In all fairness, these blanket statements are not always accurate. :music_whistling:

The G933 looks cool. Let us know how TIR fits up with it.

Yea, I too have purchased replacement battery and charging station from Logitech direct, and still problems. The charging issue, per online research stems from the contacts breaking from use of the usb plugin on the headset. Users resolve by some fine soldering techniques, but overall the consensus is poor manufacturing. Great, your headset has had no problems thus far, perhaps because it is new. Hopefully it will last for you and be trouble free.

Don't get me wrong, when it works, its a great headset and the sound is top notch, but the cutouts and poor charging for my right now, has moved me on to the G933 which hopefully (per current reviews) notes fixes to the issues with the G930.

Well the G930 is still available new from some sources and is certainly less than what the new 933 will run, but think I may just hold out for the 933 as I am in no rush and at least will have the latest. I can pre-order it from Newegg as well, so may go ahead and just do that.

Well gang after much looking around, reading and trying to learn about these things, I think I have about decided on the Sennheisers.

Specifically their Game Zero gaming headset, or maybe the PC 363D. Leaning toward the Game Zero.

Yes they are not wireless, but really all I want them for is gaming on my PC, and wireless is really not that big a deal for me. These I can just use the connectors to plug directly into my Soundlaster Z soundcard and I have a feeling they will be pretty good. Alternatively if needed I can add an amp as well, but from what I am reading with their latest headphones the amp may not be needed.

I've had no luck at all with the G930. Had it replaced with another from logitech and had the same issues. Ran all their troubleshooting and same problem. Not on one PC but on 3. I'm getting it replaced with a G633 wired 7.1 headset. No more wireless for me for a while.

Leaning toward the Game Zero.

Good choice :)

I'd personally go with the GAME ONE version, since it is open back - but that really comes down to personal choice of how you like your sound, your gaming environment, and whether you get hot ears or not lol :P

EDIT: Once you get these, turn off all of the creative soundblaster z EQ's, crystallizer, scout mode etc - you won't need to do any of that artificial stuff anymore :D

I can vouch for the sound quality, comfort and durability of Sennheiser. Ive had my PC350s for at least 6 years now! Tried a few wireless headsets along the way and they all sounded awful in comparison. I think the Game ones or zeros are just the newer versions.

Yeah it really is a toss up for me, whether to go open back or closed, but I think for how I am going to be using them and the environment closed would probably suit me better.

I can definately recommend Kingston Hyperx Cloud.

The thing is, they're based on an amazing closed headset Takstar Pro 80. Takstar makes really great quality headphones (also for professional use, studio microphones etc), and this headset sounds like something 2-3 times the price, and costs only around 60 USD. And they're also very good headphones for music, with great, balanced sound.

You can either but Pro 80 and then buy a microphone to add to it, or just buy the Kingston version with a detachable microphone included.

Also, I am using them with the same card you have, SB Z, and it just sounds amazing both for gaming and music. The microphone is not great quality in the Hyperx Cloud, so perhaps buying Pro 80 and a separate mic might be a better idea. But it's ok, so it's not necessary.

Here's a nice review of the Takstar Pro 80:

Anyway, a great set of headphones, great sound quality and a very good price, they're definately worth way more than they cost. Awesome bass, treble and amazing sound stage.

Ah, and they're wired, but there is a cable extension so you can have it at least a few meters long. With SB Z there's also no need to reach behind the PC once you connect them since you can use one slot for headphones and the other for speakers. Anyway, I always prefer wired because of sound quality and price and with a long cable it's not a problem. Also, I would stay away from most "Gaming" headsets. You usually pay for the brand and the gaming stamp on them. The only reason I'm recommending Hyperx Cloud is that I know what headset they're based on and it's quality in sound both games and music. Kingston did a quality job by using Takstar's headphones and they're also not really more expensive than the original Pro 80 (depending on country).

Thanks for the recommendations Endy and Ghost, I appreciate the feeback.

At this point I have made the decision to go with the Sennheiser Game Zero set. Should be placing the order here probably in the next few days.

I will be sure and update everyone on my impression of them once I have them and have had a little time to try them out. Hopefully by the end of next week or next weekend.

Thanks again to everyone for all their help! I have certainly learned a lot I think about headsets since I started this thread!

Sounds like a good plan. :)

I've had my Sennheiser PC 350 for years and I'm mostly fine with it.

The one downside IMO are the cushions (the way they wear off) and that Sennheiser's replacements are a bit expensive IMO. I just got some cheap 3rd party replacement cushions and I'm completely fine with these.

Other than that, I'm still pretty happy with the headset and, unless it dies on me, I don't see any reason to replace it.

No worries :) They're quite a bit more expensive than mine but I guess you will not regret it, they seems nice too if a bit more game oriented than for music. I wonder if SB Z will be able to power then seeing as they're 150 Ohm. SB has a built in headphone amp though so I guess it should be able to drive then decently.

Yeah I was wondering that too, if need be I can add an amp but from all I have read I not sure it will be needed. Also if I understand what I read correctly they are now 50 Ohm , and if I understand correctly that help negate the need for the amp.

I will find out soon enough I guess.

Well, if they're 50 Ohm then no problem of course. The Takstars I'm using are 60 Ohm and using them on SB Z you have turn the volume waaay down for them not to blow your ears. So if these Sennheisers 50 Ohm will not be a problem and you definately don't need an additional amp. I took the 150 Ohm value from some online spec, did not know that's changed.

Ok so I pulled the trigger this morning, ordered the Sennheiser Game Zero in black, supposed to be here in two days so I will be trying them out next week.

I will let everyone know my thoughts after I have used them a little bit. I am hoping the Track Clip Pro for my Track IR will fit ok as well, I would like to finally try that out, have always just used the hat clip.

Thanks again for all the help everyone!

Hey gang,

Considering getting my first true headset. Would be nice to have, so as not to annoy the wife too much when she is in close proximity, plus would give me a chance to try the Track Clip Pro for my Track IR rather than the hat clip, and lastly should I decide to get into MP someday I would then have the mic.

I would also state I have a Creative SoundBlaster Z sound card. Plus I have a nice Klipsch 2.1 Pro Media speaker system with sub, which sounds really good. Now the control pod to the Klipsch system has a headphone jack, but no mic jack. Of course my SoundBlaster card has both headphone and mic jack.

So in looking at some sites, I see there are both wired and wireless headsets. I have no real problem I guess with the wired, but wireless certainly looks convenient as well. Would I get the best sound all around with the wired sets? Plus I realize with the wireless they have to be charged as well I guess. Plus with the wired I guess I would need to make sure the cables are long enough to reach behind my computer.

Any tips would be appreciated. Have been looking at Logitech, Creative, and Razer Kraken Pro.

I do like good clear sound with good bass.

Any tips for this first time headset buyer would certainly be appreciated!

Turtle Beach makes a pretty good product. I particularly like the fact the Track Clip Pro fits snugly on the side of the headset.

Looking forward to your opinion on that headset.

Same ;)

Please, let us know what you think about the overall build quality, stereo image (probably narrow due to the closed design?), comfort (warm after a long flight?), and whatever you deem worth mentioning.

I'm looking for a dedicated headset I'd modify with a fixed IR emitter.

Also, you can try the Razer Surround software (virtual 7.1) if you're interested. No idea how it could enhance your DCS experience.

Will be glad to. They are tracking to arrive on Monday, so should be able to get some time with them during the week. Now that I am retired I certainly have plenty of time.

If I play around with any settings like EQ, etc, I will probably initially just do so with the Creative SoundBlaster Z software I already have since I have the Z card I will be plugging it into.

I just hope I get the updated model. After looking into it, apparently at some point earlier this year, Sennheiser changed the model to 50 ohm impedance, versus previously having 150 ohm, thereby negating the need for an amp. At least that is my understanding. I ordered the headset from Amazon, and the spec data sheet on the Amazon site does show the impedance being 50 ohm. Just hope it is not an older set they had lying around... but who knows, with my soundcard it may not really matter anyways.

Looking forward to giving the headset a try. I know my wife will appreciate it as I like to have my sound cranked up lol.

Also looking forward to trying the TrackClip Pro for my TIR for the first time, as well as maybe looking into a program like Voice Attack.

It's a nice solution, especially if you play solo a lot. You can do all your communication with Wingmen and Tower this way, without the need to click all the buttons involved.

Yeah as mainly a SP guy, that is what has gotten me really interested in it. I would not mind being able to use my voice rather than hitting those function keys for the radio commands.

I will definitely be checking that program out.
