Trying to buy MiG-21 from DCS: several doubts

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I was trying to buy MiG-21 from:

https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/shop/modules/mig21bis/

From "Download Beta" or "Buy", I've chosen: "Buy".

However following the several payment steps I've seen: "shipping address" and I got the impression that it will be sent a boxed DVD copy to my home address ?

1 - I want the online Download version.

2 - Shipping address for what ?

3 - The download version is different from the Beta version ?

Can anyone share some light on this ? Thank you.

Hi,

As far as I know every time you buy something from EDs shop you have to tell your shipping adress. Mine is filled automatically since Ialredy bought some modules so this keeps saved.

The other thing: the MiG-21 is still in beta status (I believe) but you are only buying the licence key for it, you can already download it but you won't be able to use it unless you enter your key

You are actually purchasing an activation key. Shipping address is just the way ED's shop works. The download version is the Beta version.

Just complete the purchase, and download the product. The key will be prompted for when you start a mission.

What he said ^^^

For the Beta login and go to module manager to download and install all your purchased modules, you dont need to manually download anything

As soon as you give them your money it should be pretty much straight away.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

I did mention "Beta" just because I don't know what is what very well (newbie).

I downloaded DCS World some hours ago, and intend to buy the full "standard" version MiG-21Bis - just that.

EDIT:

Ok then, will repeat the purchase process (I canceled a while back), and then will report developments here.

Thank you people.

It means its not quite a finished product, its still being tweaked and adjusted, but trust me get it and you will not be disappointed.

Its my 2nd favourite module after my beloved A10C

Addendum

I assumed when you said Beta earlier that you meant the 1.5 DCS open Beta

Yep, you can just buy it from the store. The key will show up in your account and you'll get it through email as well. Then you can start up DCS, go to the 'modules' part of the menu and log in to the account you use for the store.

After that, it should give you the option there to download the mig21 module.

Shipping address is just something you have to fill out for some reason, even when nothing actually needs shipping. I assume it's something to do with credit cards and whatnot. So don't worry there, just fill in the form and it's all good.

As for the beta part. I'm not sure what downloading the beta version from the website actually does, but you don't have to do that. Just buy the module so you get the key, then start up DCS World and activate your module in the 'modules' menu.

Good luck and good flying! The MiG is absolutely fantastic! :D

When you've purchased the Mig-21 you'll get a confirmation e-mail of your purchase and one with the licence key. Afterwards you:

  • go to http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/
  • login
  • Download the Mig-21 'Beta'
  • go to Profile
  • In the Licence check box paste the licence key that was e-mailed to you (you can also find the key in the 'Orders' section)
  • bind the key to your current login (if it's not already bound automatically)

After that, go and enjoy the awesomeness of the Mighty Mig :joystick:

Shipping address is typically used by the credit card company that you are using for your purchase as part of verifying your identity. They match what you put in your application to buy the goods to their database to confirm you as the correct holder of the credit account.

Hello again,

Thank you all for your help - after concluding the PayPal payment, several instructions and links appeared on the DCS site in order to; download the game; activate it; etc. just like you told.

Started the first training mission on the MiG-21, which appear's very easy to follow, however: is it supposed to ear the instructor, or one only has the visual subtitles ?

Thank you for the attention.

In the middle of all the fuss... I had my speakers off...

So, the instructor doesn't had voice, but the Tower and Ground crew do!

This is crazy.

Probably the most realistic jet combat simulator I've experimented... and I'm in this "niche" from the early 90's.

I've played more than 30 flight / combat sim titles (from MicroProse's F-15 Strike Eagle II, to Falcon BMS) still, was taken by surprise with: " differential braking power ".

There's no nose wheel steering actuator ! :megalol:

There's no ' G ' key only to get your landing gear up, either you learn the several procedures (unlock it first), or you ain't seeing nothing working... delicious.

I guess one's always learning.

My first sim was F-16 Combat pilot in very early 90s. :)

Yep, that's MiG-21. On a positive note, it can turn for a full 360 while staying put.

If possible, assign wheel brakes to an analog axis, makes steering much easier.

There's no ' G ' key only to get your landing gear up, either you learn the several procedures (unlock it first), or you ain't seeing nothing working... delicious.

It becomes second nature fairly quickly.

I guess one's always learning.

Definitely :smartass:

Looks practical and straight to the point, will be reading it soon.

I love it! Its right in that middle ground between modern and old aircraft, its not dominated by complicated systems and subsystems but in the right hands can still go toe-to-toe with newer fighters!

Yes it can.

It's was special aircraft with special tools for its time - it was pioneer, as it introduced new technologies in air warfare for the USSR.

I love the way its simple / rudimentary systems & tasks, merges with the procedure complexity to manage them.
