Unfortunately i still have to use older .dll files in order to get EDGE to work with my R9 380, i guess it was too much hope to expect this new driver to magically fix the problem, all other games seem to run just fine though and i like the new Crimson control panels :)

Works fine on my 290X with 1.5.1 open beta. I noticed that Catalyst Control Center is still there, it's just not the default UI anymore. Some settings are missing from the new UI, such as the new custom resolution utility, which I really appreciate because it enables monitor over-clocking without third party software, although I don't do that stuff any longer since I got a 144hz freesync monitor a few months ago.

Otherwise this just feels like business as usual. I have been happy with the AMD driver during 2015. It's been very stable and I have only had some minor gripes. Let's hope I can say the same for 2016 in about a year.

it looks like the 6xxx and 7xxxx are now legacy... im confused though if this driver works for these cards too? itsnot clear on the amd site

I have a HD 7970 6GB and it runs a lot smoother with this update, good frame rates and a lot less stutter.

AMD A8-5600K @ 4GHz, Radeon 7970 6Gig, 16 Gig Ram, Win 10 , 250 gig SSD, 40" Screen + 22 inch below, Track Ir, TMWH, Saitek combat pedals & a loose nut behind the stick

That's good news for the 7970 owners. I'll give them a try then.

Not DCS related, but the lower latency in dx9 is very evident in Payday 2. That was almost unplayable with v-sync on because of the huge latency even with the maximum 135fps that the game engine supports. Now it's almost as good as with v-sync off. Huge improvement.

Do you know if it is a good idea to install this driver in a HD 5870?

It's a bad idea, because the card is considered legacy, and no longer supported.

AMD 400 series will be here soon.. 290's and 390's are so similar.

They are the same GPU with just a slight over-clock and twice the memory. Glad I bought the 290X before the 390X came out because it performs basically the same. 4gb of memory is more than enough so the extra memory on the 390X just goes to waste. Over-clocking is something I do manually anyway, so the factory clock speed doesn't really matter to me. The weird thing was that the 390X became more than 100USD more expensive than the 290X, which makes me really happy having bought one before they disappeared from the market. PC components are supposed to become more affordable as technology evolves, but for the last few years this has come to a stand-still in the graphics cards market.

The slight improvement that you see in 390X reviews are thanks to the slight over-clock and mostly DRIVER OPTIMIZATIONS, something which also benefits the 290X directly but it doesn't show up in the reviews because they use numbers from old reviews with old drivers, so it looks like there's a difference in performance when it really isn't in reality.

I like that they ditched the reference coolers for the 300 series though. Not that I would ever have bought one of those myself, but those things were giving AMD a really bad reputation.

Not the whole 7xxx family, only 76xx and lower. And yes, this is the last driver which supports them, from the next driver release they will become legacy products

Catalyst settings question

Just got this new XFX 290 card and was wondering if its good or bad to use these 2 options in the CCC.

1. GPU Scaling

2. Virtual Super Resolution.

Thanks

That depends entirely on your own needs, but if you don't know what they do, then I'd say you better leave them off because they can really hurt your performance in games.

well i suppose i should have stated; good or bad for DCS 1.5 or 1.2?

My answer is still the same. The fact that you are asking is a sign that you are unsure of what they are doing, and in that case, keep those options turned off. They are meant to be used if you want to run resolutions different to the native resolution of your monitor. 99% of the time, it is best to use the native resolution of your monitor and then you have no use for those settings.

you are correct, I dont know what they do to DCS or any other program. Hence the reason i posted the question; are they good or bad for DCS. Meaning, Has anyone tried these settings and determined if they improve or degrade Image quality or FPS during gameplay. Have you tried these settings? If So, what were your findings?

Thanks

In most cases they will degrade image quality. Virtual super resolution can be used as an anti aliasing technique but then you have to run the sim at four times the resolution of your monitor which has a huge performance impact and it's simply not worth it. Use normal anti aliasing instead, which gives better performance and nicer image quality in my opinion.

Ok. Makes since. Thanks for the info
