renhanxue Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 It is interesting to note how big Viggen is... I mean its not the largest of aircraft, but compare it to Draken and Gripen... massive... The extra wheels on the main gear may help bring a bit more "umpf" to the appearance... what's the MTOW on Viggen? I haven't found an explicitly defined MTOW in the manuals, what's there is a restriction on what payload alternatives you can carry. Any fuel amount is allowed with any payload. The Swedish air force measured fuel by volume (liters) not by weight (kilograms) - the weight of the fuel varies with temperature. The nominal MTOW at ISA with 16x120kg bombs (the heaviest allowed loadout) is around 18350 kg, but there's a center of gravity diagram that has a line for that payload drawn all the way up to around 18750 kg.

Atreides Posted August 30, 2016 Posted August 30, 2016 I saw this plane last Sunday in Sweden at the celebration of 90 years Swedish Air Force. The Viggen there made a short landing, reversed, and did a short take off in the other direction. Amazing. Didn't get that on tape, since I was too much mesmerized by the view. However I did get a nice recording of among others a Saab 37 Viggen taking off, and made a video of that. For your enjoyment and for the hype of this module, here it is  This video includes the following aircraft: Saab 29 Tunnan - 1948 Saab 35 Draken - 1955 Saab 37 Viggen - 1967 Saab 39 Gripen - 1988 Saab 105 Florette - 1963 Full screen and volume to the max recommended My YouTube channel: EagleNED (click here)

Kilrah Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 It was nice to see it again. Though, didnt they end a bit too early? Seemed to me he did a short landing and then taked off again but that we didn´t see. El Hadji Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 That was my impression as well. And the speakers chatted about other nonsense instead of commenting the actual performance. Marsvinet Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 This just in. BRUTAL sound! Edit: Well, didnt seem to embed properly. As brutal as it is, this video doesn't make justice for how loud and awesomely powerful it is. When standing at the front of the airshow, the earplugs didn't seem to help when it pointed the engine at ya. Shook my entire body.
MostlyHarmless Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 you all have corrupted me after nearly 300 pages of low flying Viggens, the first thing that came to mind watching the demo flight was, man that thing is flying kinda high...

Airshow regulations. :P Also they probably dont want to risk loosing the only flying airframe left in the world. ;-)
mattebubben Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Although a mach 0.9 pass at 50m (since supersonic would probably not be allowed) would have been amazing.

microvax Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 ...and here's why: I do not see the problem  [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] *unexpected flight behaviour* Oh shiii*** ! What ? Why ? What is happening ?
mattebubben Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 (edited) Neither do i. As long as they dont do it over my house and my car is not nearby then i dont see any problem with that. And actually on the Topic of the Viggen and Super Sonic passes. Many years ago (think it was early 90s or very late 80s) a Viggen Pilot (who was a childhood friend of my father) did a super sonic pass at about 150-200m above a town in "Northern" Sweden Called Härnösand. The other pilots in the flight said he would not dare to do it so ofc he did xD (it was his home town). Not surprisingly there were a "Few" windows broken and a deal of outrage from the city officials etc and he got a warning from the airforce but that was that. What a horrible and boring job being a Fighter Pilot in peace time must be ^^. Edited September 5, 2016 by mattebubben
Darkbrotherhood7 Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 (edited) ...and here's why: Those M2000 pilots got arrested because of this..lol But I don't see any problem, they actually made a favor I think.:music_whistling::lol: Edited September 5, 2016 by Darkbrotherhood7 Mission: "To intercept and destroy aircraft and airborne missiles in all weather conditions in order to establish and maintain air superiority in a designated area.
