Ofc you need rudder inputs!

 

No matter your a fast moveing jet-jock, WWII Prop-lover, or a Helo-Fan....

You need to fly the ball, you need to make smooth manouvers.....

Except when it comes to low speed rudder use, mapping them to keys or buttons is a disadvantage because at low speed the PFM F-15C gives a better roll than aileron input. If you use buttons you cannot do a half/1/4 or 3/4 rudder input for a smooth roll into a firing position. The same goes for the SU27 as both aircraft have large twin rudders.:thumbup:

Thank you mate for your advice but its late I have already ordered the VKB T-Rudder It’s by far of the same quality as the crosswind , all metal parts with very high accuracy according to SimHQ review and other reviews on the internet . As I mentioned earlier that the only down side of it is that it lack toe brake which I will assign to a button. I Personally don’t think that the T-rudder is a second rate pedal I think its of a top quality just behind the crosswind .

 

 

Hey simo..I have no info on the other pedals so i was just being general as to saying 2nd rate or less quality..I more or less was makeing a point...

This time of yr its hard to justify any amount of $$ being spent but as long as your happy with your choice its all that matter...Enjoy and be sure to post a review on your new peddles..:beer::beer:

Regarding F-15C and SU27, yes the rudders can make a difference in a dogfight in the low speed fight the rudder in the latest F-15C PFM will help you in a low speed roll situation to roll the aircraft where aileron input is less effective the rudders do the job. Just remember to centre them or you'll find yourself dogfighting with the FPM to one side lol while trying to use the guns. Situations where this can happen is going vertical where you lose speed but are still keen on the kill of a Mig and need a little rudder. No doubt some would say its a bad idea to lose all that energy and wind up in that situation in the first place but some times when the fight goes up you can get away with it. Both F-15C and SU27 have quite big rudders so the pedals will help.:thumbup:

 

 

 

Back in ww2 some of the jap pilots(pacific fight)used to try and drag the wild cat into the vertical and maken stall so when they did the jap pilot would hit the "RUDDER" then be on the 6 of the wildcat for a kill..

 

Didnt work when the hellcats came online..

 

During vietnam,same thing with the migs but the phantom has more thrust so it didnt always work as well but rudders definately have their uses..

O1000rr..Dont buy second rate peddles....Hang tight and save for the crosswinds..Try no coffees or smokes or pizzas for a time..

Im guessing you have either a honda or beemer so would you use 2nd rate fuel or a cheap chinese tire??

 

I finally said eff it myself..I got dcs and a cpl modules but rarely touched it,so not long ago i placed my crosswind order(shipping expected next month)bought a tm warthog and a nice dxracer king series chair..Im goin balls in when im not truckin or carvin corners on my zx10.

 

I have never considered to get rudder pedals. I find rudder control to be sufficient with twist on the stick. And I fly prop planes which are way more reliant on the player input than fly by wire planes.

 

To me it is not really that important.

You didn't read my post through, My joystick doesn't have twist other wise i would use the twist as a rudder input thats why i need a rudder pedal

I understand that. It is just that, well I don't see the advantage with that pricetag :)

 

That is why I would never even aproach buying a stick without a twist.:smilewink:

I'm finding the rudder very difficult to learn because of the lack of detail in instruction. I understand the concept but applying it in practice, especially in a sim where the only slip indicator is the ball in the cockpit, is another matter. So far I've figured out that in a gentle turn I need to smoothly apply rudder as I roll into my bank. But what about in combat? How do I coordinate a snap to 90 degrees of bank? Or a snap into 140 degrees of bank when I'm rolling in on a ground target? In each case I try to hit rudder as I roll into the bank only to have so much beta that the initiation of my turn is delayed when I pull back on the stick.

And ...... that would be the exact reason that pilots are tought to fly, and trained a lot in the art of flying, before they enter any sort of combat....

 

ofc it takes pratice, the best way to learn it is to start in prop planes, get a lot of hours there. Pratice all kind of manuvers, specaly crosswind take off and landings, also forward slip and side slip... After praticing these manouvers, its wil become naturily for you to use rudders, and secound to nature.

I know of the twitch stick way,.... But if you know anyone thats got a pair of pedals, and you could try em`out, you would agree with me, that its much more naturaly and easyer to fly fly with pedals....

 

Beside, I often see em` used, at prices as low as 100 $

DCS will not have a modern fast mover until it has a jet that can do BVR and self-designate and deploy PGM's. :)

Is there a way to know if a turn is (un)coordinated without looking at the ball?

 

Hmm, you get a much tighter turn.... :music_whistling:

 

In real life, you also lean on the ball, or in gliders a pice of string on your canopy. What you feel in real life is, that your tail, sort of help the plane round, and in the stick you can fell a bit of resistance from the rudder input...
