Interesting note: In the spring of 1944, Allied commanders commenced planning of Operation Overlord. By the beginning of May, airfields and usable landing grounds in an arc 130 miles around Caen, code named Area I, were marked for destruction by the Eighth Air Force, the AEAF, and the RAF Bomber Command.

Give us all those runways, but make sure they have all those craters on them :)

Do you want a shovel as well?

Sounds like a good A/G mission to start with in-game...

Three days later (23 May 1944), 333 P-51 Mustangs flew interdictor sorties against bases, destroying 17 Luftwaffe aircraft in the air and an impressive 77 on the ground, with a further 64 aircraft damaged at their airfields, at a cost of 15 US pilots missing in action.

Can't help but think we need good runway damage Modeling going forward. I'd like to see some nice craters stick around for a mission if I bombed an enemy airfield.

Maybe I just haven't tried it lately so I don't know the present state really.

As I know we do have airfield damaging bombs. So it's up to you to make such pictures within the game. ))

I'll give it a go and check it out in both versions. But traveling, so someone will beat me to it.

I dont think we currently have physical or visual damage of runways in the sim yet.

We do have. Even SC500 makes some craters. :smilewink:

Not a best visual representation from low angle view but it works.

But. That is the actual 3D effect present on DCS: W or future versions?

Screen was made in actual DCS 1.5 build not in a dev's version.
