dooom Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 This is my wishlist... I would love to see the addition of these two airfields into our Black Sea map with some associated urban locales... I am not looking for the full Crimea by any means... just these two AF and minor town densities to allow us to use the straights as a strategic area of operations. the addition of the f-18/f-14 will make choke points like this all the more fun to create missions around. so... um.... please? Northstar98 Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 Agreed, though I'm sure the map is getting a facelift as per the merging of 1.5 and 2.0 not sure of the exact details of any improvements but it's always a possibility Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk. Redacuragsr Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 They already had all these objects created and placed, and from what I remember they were pretty historicly accurate. With some good retexturing it would be very sweet.

dooom Posted April 12, 2016 Author Posted April 12, 2016 i think the point is to recognize the limitations of the curent map on game performance though.... This is why I'm only asking for a handful of locations on the other side of the straight... hopefully it would not impact performance too much while opening up some new mission possibilities around that straight. that said - yeah... adding a handful of cities along the blacksea south shore or far west would be super awesome too. Belgeode Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Is there that much of an impact on performance for areas that are too far to be rendered? Say for example if I am flying over Turkey, surely it is too far to render Batumi, let alone the Crimean peninsula. I am curious how that all works in DCS. But for the record, I agree, I would love to see Crimea AND Turkey as part of the map. I do not like the empty areas. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] YouTube ~ Twitch
dooom Posted April 12, 2016 Author Posted April 12, 2016 yeah - I'd love to find an official ED explanation that would help me wrap my brain around how the inclusion of any more polygons and ground art impacts the map performance. Download times are the obvious ones but I dont really understand how expanion would hit FPS for example... outside of Ossetia and Abkhazia, it feels like we are *JUST*BARELY* missing some incredibly neat areas of operation/interest from the real world. Some obvious ones: 1. Nagorno Karabakh: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/nagorno-karabakh-conflict-is-too-dangerous-to-ignore/2016/04/11/1e32fc44-ff23-11e5-9d36-33d198ea26c5_story.html 2. Chechnya: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chechen%E2%80%93Russian_conflict 3. Baku-Ceyhan pipeline: http://qz.com/304742/the-worlds-first-pipeline-war-has-officially-come-to-an-end/ 4. Kerch: WWII and modern history 5. Istanbul: woudl be very cool to get only this city as a long distance target. AH89 Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 The Crimean being removed was a bit weird its a place that is a hot spot right now, possibly ED don't want to seem to make some sort of political statement about Crimea or something, I'm guessing. But it was already there and they removed it, that's the bummer there. I agree with OP.
HiJack Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 I'm not sure why but I read somewhere here that Crimea had some licensing problems. EDIT: EA maybe :noexpression:
Dudikoff Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 But it was already there and they removed it, that's the bummer there. It wasn't really already there as it would have had to be completely redone to the new DCSW map standards anyway. I'm rather curious to know more about these licensing issues preventing to have Crimea added to the map. How could such a thing be copyrighted? Seaeagle Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 (edited) As far as I remember, it was down to the map technology used at the time - something about a fixed limit to the number of objects that could be placed. Since an expansion into Georgia appeared to provide a better basis for realistic combat scenarios, it was decided to remove the Crimean ground objects for the purpose. With the war in South Ossetia in 2008, it seemed to be the right decision, while no one in their right mind would suggest a conflict involving Crimea to be even remotely plausible. Worrazen Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 (edited) Kerch-Bagerovo was disassembled quite some time ago but later than the time of the last post in this thread. I didn't saw it mentioned anywhere on the forums either with a quick search. Not sure how long this was the case, but It didn't seem the airfield was lifted up last year I was watching through google earth, but then I keep getting info on work being done in 2012. They pulled all of the pavement out of the ground ... Probably part of the whole Crimea upgrade projects, there might be a replacement elsewhere, I don't have any more info at this time. Worrazen Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 (edited) Wow I didn't knew Simferopol is getting a huge new international airport complex I guess the DCS Crimea map would have to include that as well then, more work but hey it'll be worth the wait, considering most of Crimea military airfields are old and even abandoned, the map would then feature at least one brand-new substantial airport which would make it more reason for people to get the map (or addon/update to Caucasus). EDIT: Well there wasn't any mention of a new runway in this video, however I do think eventually after such a massive project that would be silly leaving the runway alone, it would be either extended/refurbished or another one added or both. Oceandar Posted January 13, 2018 Posted January 13, 2018 As much as we'd love to see Crimea back, it won't happen gents. See DCS FB page that stated ED won't do Crimea because political reason. Sad but true. Mastering others is strength. Mastering yourself is true power. - Lao Tze
