gospadin Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 I start on ground cold (one of the new mission editor capabilities for helos) and my gazelle explodes as soon as I start the mission. fjacobsen Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 So if 1.5.4 beta is regarded as stable with only minor issues - then the 24.06 changes will be added to 1.5.4 stable/release version next friday ? Mt5_Roie Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 In theory yes....but everything is subject to change. The landing and starting of grass as been extensively tested by our team. I myself have over 4 hours just landing the Gazelle on different surfaces and starting her back up again. On the plus side, my landings are getting better. Flagrum Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 Starting from a grass surface works for me, but I usually die or at least get knocked out when I try to land on grass. To me it seems, that the friction of the skids is too high - even the slightest amount of movement when touching down causes the helo to topple over. (when starting, atm I only manage to, well, not really _jump_ into the air, but "getting light on the skids" is something I am still working on ... so, in my case, when lifting off, there is usually no skidding on the skids which would cause the helo to topple)
unknown Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 I have no problem landing the Gazelle on gras, the only thing you have to look after is that you don't have any "side movement" ideally not much forward movement, works like a charme. But what i noticed too is that the friction of the skids is very high, as soon as you touch the ground you are "glued" to it. Pat01 Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 Hi What has been fixed is the ability to land/start in grass (and shut down engine) without exploding. Gliding in grass will be later.
Pikey Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 Ah yeah that was what i noticed, the slide of the skids. Good to know its on the way, its something I abuse badly in the Huey though so dont want it too slippy :) ___________________________________________________________________________ SIMPLE SCENERY SAVING * SIMPLE GROUP SAVING * SIMPLE STATIC SAVING *
NeilWillis Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 I have been able to land on grass in 1.5.3, and as long as you bring it to a hover before touching down, you don't have any issues at all. Just keep the drift very low, and it is fine.

Mt5_Roie Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Also depends if it's freshly cut grass, because the wetness of the grass reduces the friction. Coder - Oculus Rift Guy - Court Jester
gospadin Posted July 10, 2016 Author Posted July 10, 2016 Anyone else seeing irregular movements when setting down still? 1.5.4 stable, whichever one was pushed on july 8th. Seems like every time I touch down, I have a jerky movement typically forward and to the right. This is setting down from a 1-2 foot high hover, so it's about as gentile as anyone is going to do. I get this on both pavement/runway surfaces and grass. Additionally, I noticed the skids leave tire skidmarks if you land with forward velocity, kind of funny. AstroEma Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 I have issues when spawning on grass on a custom mission. Also, there's no way to rearm/repair at a FARP? Would it be possible to rearm on the go? Just landing in a field? I have read somewhere - If I remember correctly - that it has been done with the gazelle? Cheers, e. I agree, a Huey or Hip should be able to carry a dozen HOT missiles or more to allow in-field gazelle rearming. Ramsay Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 (edited) Also, there's no way to rearm/repair at a FARP? I'm able rearm/re-fuel the SA342M and SA342L at BLUFOR FARP's My 'standard' support set for a western/BLUFOR FARP/Heliport is APC M1043 HMMVW Armament Tanker M978 HEMTT HEMTT TFFT Transport M818 I've had issues having reliable repairs in 1.5.3 (SA342M) but that was before the grass landing fix in 1.5.4 and I also seemed to have a repair/spawn glitch in the SA342L last weekend where the airframe seemed fixed/new but then the tail fell off on take-off (as if inheriting the damage from my previous player slot), I re-spawned in a M, and then switched back to the L and that cleared any issue there was. But these issues haven't been repeatable in a meaningful way. However repeated FARP rearmament and refuelling is a core part of my gameplay/missions when flying the Gazelles and I've never had a problem there. I haven't flown the Gazelle as REDFOR, so can't comment on how rearmament is working with their support vehicles. Mt5_Roie Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 Sometimes if you don't tip your crew chief nicely or don't notice his/her latest hair cut, they loosen the bolts holding the tail. Would be cool if we can have those vehicles without having a FARP around and be able to land next to them and refuel and rearm.
