I am really enthused for the F86 again after watching that video, I think I just may have to purchase the campaign. Looks great:)

That campaign plot/idea is refreshing and a great way to use the current content without any Korean War era specific asset.

It also sounds challenging and must be rewarding if you manage to survive with those little birds - so underpowered compared to the modern fighters (and anti-aircraft defenses).

(I just bought it!)

Hi, When I use the GUI Utillity I keep getting a pop up that says there is a DCS_Updater.exe Found.

I dont understand what to do?

Press OK.

 

There's a Scan in my App that checks for DCS.exe and DCS_Updater.exe,

After check it will prompt w/ DCS Version, DCS Updater Version, Copyright etc,

 

If the files were not found, it will say not found and disable all buttons.

The map really needed new elevation mesh. This is fantastic news, and way above and beyond what I expected them to do as far as revamping the old map.

Thats really exciting to see.

 

Has it been mentioned if they fixed the water levels as well? Like are rivers and lakes at the right height or are they still doing the same thing and having just the water at sea level all the way through the map and cutting holes in the terrain where the lakes / rivers would be.

Yeah I figured, since they're doing new mesh they can now attach inland water to the mesh instead of the old method of it all floating over a flat plane of water, sometimes hundreds of feet below ground level.

Dear all,

 

I have a little news for you on the updated Caucasus map for DCS World 2.5. A key part of DCS World 2.5 will be the unification of the Caucasus and Nevada maps (and all other future maps). In order to do this, we first need to update the Caucasus map to the T4 map standard (as the Nevada map is).

 

Initially, we planned just to update the file structure and field textures, but we later decided to greatly expand on that. Because the Caucasus often servers as the first impression for new DCS World users, we feel it important to have a more substantial update that matches map quality to vehicle module quality. While the attached summer season images are still very much Work-In-Progress (with a lot of fixes, tuning and some pretty big changes to still come), they do provide a glimpse of where we are going.

 

In the attached images, you may notice the following: updated / higher resolution textures for almost all terrain surfaces, airfields, and ground objects; new tree system for both forests and “urban areas”; much greater population of forested areas; several new ground objects with improved geometry detail; deferred lighting system; new water renderer; procedural grass; corrected river and lake parallax; and improved shadows. We also hope to include a higher resolution terrain elevation mesh, but no promises on that. In previous images, we showed off how the updated map is looking from “squirrel cam” level, but today we thought we’d raise the camera up a bit.

Uhhh...no Skates not weekend news :D, BUT it is most welcomed and definitely piques my interest in seeing the building blocks come together for map creation. I do wonder what the next steps are and what resources needed to make it come together. :)

I hope that's their plan. It would suck if their highlight for the year would just be upgrading Caucasus. Not saying a lot of hard work hasn't been put on it. Well see I guess. Hope we can progress at a good pace now that Edge is out.
