Hey guys, lots of great info here, I've done some searching but my head is spinning.

I've been out of the sim game for some time now. I used to play Jane's, Team Apache, A10, etc. All the good stuff back in the day. But it's been at least 10 years. I'm looking to get back into it. I was drawn to A10C Warthog. But here is my dilemma.

I'm trying to decide what to buy/install.

A10C?

DCS World 1.5?

DCS World 2.0?

I really like the idea of DCS World 2.0, but it seems limited at the moment? Can you play the A10C Warthog module on it? Are there any missions for it? I'd like to avoid multiple installs, but I also don't want to spend all this time setting up 2.0 if I'm only going to be able to fly around aimlessly. What is available for 2.0?

Any input?

Thanks!

dcs 1.5 is the way to go first, you get a free terrain

dcs 2.0 is currently for testing the NTTR terrain which is paid content.

and the A-10c is a great module for learning

hope that helps

and welcome to the forum

2.0 is an alpha version. You can only use 2.0 if you buy the Nevada map also (or have bought the A-10C in its beta phase, which gave you nevada for free).

1.5 is the current released full version. It has the causasus map included and the free Su-25T.

If you want to fly the A-10C in caucasus, you need to download 1.5 and buy the A-10C module.

If you want to fly the A-10C in Nevada, you need to download 2.0, buy Nevada terrain module and buy the A-10C module.

I would recommend 1.5 + A-10C (+all the other modules later :D )

Agree with the above, 1.5 would be best way to go to get started. Plus with 1.5 you get all the training missions available as well, they are not currently in 2.0 as it is the Nevada map only at this time.

I would suggest instead of the A-10C now, that you get the A-10A ($10) since you are just getting started again. It is a good plane and a much easier ground pounder to learn with and if you want a little more out of the A-10, you can get the C model later with sale prices. A better deal (especially when on sale) would be to get the FC3 package for $40 and get the A-10A, Su-27, Su-33, Mig-29S and the F-15C. All great planes.

The real question is, do you want full fidelity, or are you in for a little easier time? Full fidelity modules aren't subjectively better if you don't want them.

Back to OP. Go for 1.5. The two are going to be merged together at a later date anyways, and every module you buy carries over to that version too, so no sweat.

And no Advanced Modeling of internal Systems e.g. hydraulics, electrics, fuel.

Agreed. I should have added 'or Advanced System Modeling.'

Of course, that would be seven words. :D

Thanks for the input everyone! I was a little too sucked in by the graphics of 2.0, so I went with that, but I can tell there's a steep learning curve. Especially without any flight controls. I'll probably load up 1.5 in the next week or so so I can get some training missions in. Either way, I'm happy to support the developers by paying for the Vegas map, they did an amazing job!

The good thing with the A-10C is: you don't have to learn all at the same time. You can learn the systems one after another. Additionally, I don't find the FC3 jets so much easier, because you have to memorize a lot of keyboard commands instead of just clicking the correct switches
