Since when are we able to lock our own missiles???

Fired an R-73 in close combat mode, switched to another target(2 targets were in close formation) and locked onto my own missile.Should I be able to do this??It never happened before.This happens in both the mig and su.

it's always been like this, eo just detects heat sources and surprise, missiles motors generate heat.

I've been successfully shoot incoming AMRAAMs with EO numerous time, all happened accidentally lol...

Me ? Nothing unusual. Just light the EO up and I see 2 two contacts and mistakenly chose the incoming Amraam. It also happened when I use vertical scan mode did little bit rolling and it locked the Amraam.

 

Edit : it happens in MP and I don't think its a cheat.

F key ? AFAIK F key is for flap, never knew that it also can be used for cheat.

You can also shoot missiles in f-15 and I did it by mistake again lol, I got multiple contacts and tried to shoot them all but it turned out to be anti radar missiles fired by Su-25t :D

Btw. The "F"-keys are called function-keys. Hence the "F". That might spare you the misunderstandings.

what might not be so realistic is the missiles seem to be just as hot motor off as motor on.

Last night my missile R-73 locked on to a parachute and killed it.

I forgot to mention the chutes did not show up on my hud, I fired on the bomber right before it exploded and the missile just home on it.

Is it possible to be a coincidence? Was the missile going ballistic and hit the parachute in its trajectory or was it really tracking it ?

One cool thing you can do with this feature is to use SAB-100 bombs as live fire practice targets for IR missiles and maybe MANPADS (I haven't tested MANPADS though). This was (and probably still is) done in the Polish AF.

Lol, hard to tell. I think it was tracking what's left of the bomber. I was actually watching a video the other day about how ATC primary radar can track fragments of a broken up aircraft and how it helps in an NTSB investigation.

No I don't think so. The missile kept its somewhat curved but constant trajectory until the parachute abruptly appeared just before the collision.

Oh, ok. I knew, that you can track and lock Tomahawk cruise missiles but the anti radiation missiles are new to me.

Its too bad I no longer have that track anymore (deleted it already). It was also surprised me because I knew that from tacview that I actually shot a bunch of missiles :D

I've actually done a 180 to chase and shoot at a missile locked up with eos thinking it was a bandit, consequently I was shot up the ass by the shooter. :)
