apolloace Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 Are the Kh25 MPU & Kh58 SEAD missiles FIRE & FORGET in DCS 1.5? Most of the time when I break Radar Lock after launching the missiles from Su25T they seem to miss their target!! This is happening 70% of the time! Previously I have played around with the Su25T doing SEAD, but the HIT ratio was around 90%. Any opinion? :helpsmilie: Rig - I7-9700K/GIGABYTE Z390D/RTX-2080 SUPER/32-GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE RAM/1-TB SSD Mods - A10C / F18C / AV8B / Mig21 / Su33 / SC / F14B
apolloace Posted October 24, 2016 Author Posted October 24, 2016 Checked the in game encyclopedia............. The Kh25 & Kh58 both are showing as "Inertial Guidance & Passive Radar guided". Does that mean they are not FIRE & FORGET any longer? Rig - I7-9700K/GIGABYTE Z390D/RTX-2080 SUPER/32-GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE RAM/1-TB SSD Mods - A10C / F18C / AV8B / Mig21 / Su33 / SC / F14B
razo+r Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 Last time i checked they are still fire and forget weapons, but they can't track moving vehicles
Pocket Sized Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 They are fire and forget. The aircraft just says "look here and lock this radar source. That's your target." The inertial guidance helps if the target turns off their radar while the missile is in flight. The INS guides the missile towards the last position of the radar. Make sure not to fire the 25MPU's near their max range unless you're very high up. They like to fall short of the target sometimes. DCS modules are built up to a spec, not down to a schedule. apolloace Posted October 24, 2016 Author Posted October 24, 2016 I was firing at static Buk & Kub Radars, not moving vehicles. But Passive Radar guidance does mean that, you have to light up the target till Missile HIT, isn't it? probad Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 (edited) no, passive means the thing isnt putting out radiation of its own. it doesnt need to because the target's radar emission gives it all the data it needs for terminal guidance. Most of the time when I break Radar Lock after launching the missiles from Su25T they seem to miss their target!! the su-25t is not equipped with a radar. all the fantasmagoria pod does is point out the source of other radars, it doesn't do anything beyond that. it doesn't talk to your missiles after you fire or anything like that. most likely is that these kubs and buks are shooting down your missiles. you should provide us with a track of your flight if you really want us to diagnose your problem. HiJack Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Make sure the targeted radar SAM have locked on to you before launching.
Pocket Sized Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 Make sure the targeted radar SAM have locked on to you before launching. Er, no? The missile will happily kill stuff that's only using its search radar. Pretty sure that's what they're usually used for. I've killed numerous EWR emplacements which only emit a pulse in the missiles direction once every several seconds. DCS modules are built up to a spec, not down to a schedule. Kang Posted October 25, 2016 Posted October 25, 2016 My main reason for Kh58 misses is the missiles being shot down by shorter range SAMs. Due to its fairly long range you can fire the Kh58 at Buk search radars quite a long time before you even pick up some of the smaller systems.
apolloace Posted October 25, 2016 Author Posted October 25, 2016 I was launching the missiles at max range from an altitude of 2500 m. Maybe that was the problem!! Is there any optimum launch altitude for the Kh-25 MPU & Kh-58? Maybe that was the problem!! Is there any optimum launch altitude for the Kh-25 MPU & Kh-58? The optimum launch altitude is always the same: as high as you can go! The missile's motor produces more thrust and there's less drag. The Kh-58 really benefits from high altitude launch because of its very high speed. For the range it depends on what you're attacking. The Kh-25 I'd recommend launching at 3/4th max indicated range. The Kh-58 will usually hit at max range but the closer you are the faster it hits and the harder it is for the enemy to shoot down (this applies to both missiles) DCS modules are built up to a spec, not down to a schedule. BinaryMan Posted October 26, 2016 Posted October 26, 2016 The launch queues for the kh25mpu and kh29t seems to be broken at the moment and the missiles seems to perform way less than what their launch authorization indicate. I posted about it here https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=176015

The mpus used to have a good hit chance at long ranges but the missiles seems to under perform the launch queues now. with the 25mpus you generally have to be close than 25 km to hit.
