Custard Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 (edited) >This time around, registration will be based on the SA Ranking. How nepotistic. Edited November 30, 2016 by Custard [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

FLANKERATOR Posted November 30, 2016 Author Posted November 30, 2016 (edited) We simply want to give the best pilots out there a chance to participate. The criteria is the SA Ranking, which means how well one did in the previous events of this season. This event is like the Masters where the best are supposed to meet after 12 months of competition. This is not nepotistic, this is based on merit and level of participation in previous events. We could of sent private invitations but we also want to give everyone a chance to get in if the top ranked players can't make it. There will also be a first come first serve only based registration phase once the ranking based one will be over on November 5th if there are still free slots. So if your keen to fly this, I'd recommend signing up now whether you have a ranking or not. Stuge Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 This may not be optimal place to bring this up.. but as it concerns the tournament I will anyway :) Does anyone else have the Mig-21's R-60M/R-60 missiles randomly refuse to give a tone for launch? I am absolutely baffled by what seems to be a bug.. sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't. This doesn't seem to affect for example R-3S. Anyone else have this? http://www.104thphoenix.com

OperatorJack Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 (edited) Why is the event based upon the ranks when I guess most of the DCS community hold no ranks. Not only this but the ranks seems rather arbitrary and you only become ranked through SA events. Makes no sense to me really. Edited December 1, 2016 by OperatorJack /да бойз/ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Hook47 Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 (edited) Hey guys, First of all, thanks a ton to Flankerator for getting this thread up. The last two rounds have been a real blast to cover as caster and I'm really excited about what The Grudge Match Series & Leatherneck Simulations has in store for Round 3! Thanks to all those who have applied so far. I'm saddened to see the flak at Flankerator about the use of SA Rankings to give preference, particularly from a veteran of a previous round, but let me make something clear so as to ease any confusion- As the Organizer of this series, I cannot emphasize how helpful Flankerator & SA-Sim.com have been in helping to Sanction & Co-organize these events. There is nothing "nepotistic" about that choice, and frankly I would have implemented it sooner if it had come up, as these have always been SA-Sim Sanctioned events, and frankly it eases the rather frantic registration process. That being said, those who are not ranked may get a shot at the Open Registration after December 5th. In any case please respect Flankerator as he has been tremendously helpful and this series wouldn't have been anywhere near as enjoyable or successful without his help. Thank you for the understanding on this front, and feel free to apply as prescribed by Flank. We hope to see you there, and are extremely excited for this round, even though many challenges lie ahead! I want everyone to know up front that this round is going to be so much more than another MiG 21 Vs F-5 match up, and with that come some real challenges, so we need everyone to approach this with a positive attitude, a desire to have fun, and above all else- a way to give something unique and awesome to the DCS Community! Looking forward to revealing more about that soon! Edited December 1, 2016 by Hook47
OperatorJack Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 (edited) Hey guys, I'm saddened to see the flak at Flankerator about the use of SA Rankings to give preference, particularly from a veteran of a previous round, I can see exactly where this comes from. If slots are allocated based upon how high your rank is, then one would assume from this that all the veterans of previous events, and by no means a ludicrous assumption to make, your friends would be given first choice of slots beating out any potential other pilots at a chance to play. This is actually nepotism, this is how it comes across. I for one feel the event should be fully inclusive and there really wasn't anything particularly disorganised I noticed about the previous 2 rounds registration methods, and I followed the last 2 rounds closely seeing as friends of mine participated in both. Additionally; how about reserving some of the slots for the open registration part? Edited December 1, 2016 by OperatorJack /да бойз/ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Bushmanni Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 These events are not public service so any bitching about rules the organizers have set is just silly. If they want to do something different lets let them. They are doing the work to organize all this anyways so they have the right to make it the way they want it. Besides there will be more events coming up or you can organize your own. DCS Finland: Suomalainen DCS yhteisö -- Finnish DCS community -------------------------------------------------- SF Squadron

Besides there will be more events coming up or you can organize your own. "If you don't like it do it yourself!" My favourite internet non-argument. I'm complaining about the rules because they seem unfair. I'm well within my rights to, nobody has to listen to me but this is something that myself and a few other people I've spoken to are rather concerned about. It's just this specific event my friends and I are interested in as 3rd gen combat in DCS is probably the best part of the game, none of the other events really appeal to us so that clearly leaves us locked out of this one. /да бойз/ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Custard Posted December 1, 2016 Posted December 1, 2016 (edited) In any case please respect Flankerator as he has been tremendously helpful and this series wouldn't have been anywhere near as enjoyable or successful without his help. There's no disrespect intended, but I must call a spade a spade. Though perhaps I was foolish to see this series of events as an antidote to the perception of DCS organised multiplayer events as a rather exclusive business. Any event open to the plucky amateur has a certain appeal to me, and open favouritism towards the same few old hands leaves a bad taste. Event managers are of course free to run their own events as they please, and I wish you success. But I'm of the opinion that the openness of the early events is partly what lead to their popularity and large viewer count. I once tried to convince others to donate their module prizes from screenshot/skin/video competitions to these events, suffice it to say I wouldn't do that now. Good luck regardless, Cheers.
